Sold Out

Sahara Sunset from Island People is sold out, however there is a costume for sale at Carnival Junction. When I called the mas camp I was told the following sections are still available:

Sirocco Winds
Sahara Jumbie
Arabian Princess
Raiders of the Desert

Baje International is advertising their allocation in the section Mirage, so for those not able to register online through Island People's website this can be another option.

Additionally Jab Jab and Dame Lorraine are officially sold out on TRIBE's website remaining are:

Jean and Dinah
Cow Mas
Midnight Robber
Pierrot Grenadae
Jab Molassie

Sneak peek of Masquerade

On November 11th Masquerade will showcase their 2007 presentation "Golden Heritage...a Tribute to Mas" at the Anchorage, in the meantime here is a sneak peek (click on the photos to make them bigger):

Dream Team

So I made my way to Dream Team's mas camp yesterday (finally) hoping to see prices on display only to be disappointed.

Firstly, for those interested the mas camp is obliquely opposite El Peccos on Ariapita Avenue, there is a small sign indicating that Dream Team is housed upstairs the Alaska Bar, and I have to say of all the mas camps I have been to so far it is the most underwhelming. The location might be okay to house a private section but I was quite surprised that the entire band is located in such cramped quaters. Maybe it is just me, but I like to view costumes in air-conditioned comfort and their fans were not cutting it, also I notice everything so I was put off by the dim lighting and dingy, stained carpet as well. The costumes looked much better on the mannequins than on the night of the launch, but they are displayed behind individual glass cases so you cannot get a close-up view of the costumes or even sneak a touch.

There were no names on the costume nor prices and that made no sense to me. If it were not for the employee at the mas camp flipping through a note book to give me prices (one by one) I would be totally lost as someone seeing the costumes for the first time. When I enquired as to the prices of the costumes, the employee said they range from $2200.00 to $2400.00, I am sure if the costumes were labeled and priced accordingly he would not have to sound as though I was asking him a huge favour to tell me the prices of the costumes. Front line costumes range from $2800.00 to $3200.00 as I cannot remember exactly what costumes he called prices for !

Hopefully when the website goes up, which I informed might occur by this weekend, I will not only be able to see the prices, but the names of each section as well. Being the keen observer that I am I noticed one costume missing, the wine coloured section called Bossa Nova is mysteriously missing from the line up of costumes. And when I checked the registration cards, no males have yet to register and only four females had registered up to the time I was there. The down payment on costumes is $700.00 by the way.

I don't like to do the comparison thing, but Dream Team is falling short behind it's competitor Pulse 8 and if I were a potential customer the choice would be quite easy based on first impressions alone.
