Missed it by a nose!!!

There I was minding my business yesterday when I got a call that Island People were shooting out in the open around the Savannah opposite Stolmeyer's castle. Since I was in the area anyway I decided to pass and check them out hoping to glimpse the costume with a "butterfly on the head". Sad to say I missed them, damn they were swift!

Sources have said the costumes are gorgeous, I was told in particular that Diane Hunte has a lacy gold section that is stunning, Crystal Amming is coming in yellow as the Caribbean Sun and Angel Falls is crystal and white beads. The Chocolate Dreams section is getting a touch of Caramel to cater to all skintones and from those who have seen the costumes, the "backline" are so hot they look like frontline !!!

Bring it on Island People, it is about time we have another crop of fabulous costumes to drool over. Best of all there is absolutely no hype surrounding the launch so I think they are planning to WOW us and that is even more exciting.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sonia Mark's "Bird of Paradise" to compare it against Tribe's version. Hopefully Sonia would capture the theme a bit better and actually design a male costume instead of the cheap looking board shorts and arm band combo for most of Tribe's males. Ironically for many of the birds portrayed it is the male of the species which is the more spectacular with more colorful feathers and mating rituals. This is done in the hope of attracting the females to mate. For Trinidad Carnival it's the exact opposite. The females are the more spectacular and usually perform their elaborate dance ("wine") in some cases in order to tempt and attract the male. I have no problem with this and support this concept 1000 percent :-). While I respect those who love to play "The Mas" with MC Farlaine etc.. give me a Babe in a sexy costume any day to drool over...(respectfully of course)...

HI SAUCY,
I HAVE JUST ONE QUESTION. IF SOMEONE IS COMING TO TRINIDAD FOR THE FRIST TIME AND WOULD LOVE TO PLAY MAS. IS THERE SUCH AN ORGANIZATION, THAT ALLOWS SOMEONE AIRFARE, HOTELS OR GUEST HOUSE ACCOMMDATIONS, WHICH INCLUDE YOUR TICKETS TO THE LATEST PARTIES, COSTUMES OF YOUR CHOICE IN THE BEST MAS BANDS, FOR ONE SET FEE. WOULD THIS BE GREAT FOR FOREIGNERS OR RETURNING TRINIS. JUST PAY ONE PRICE FOR AN INCREDIBLE TIME FOR THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, THAT IS TRINIDAD CARNIVAL.

A QUESTION TO THE BANDLEADER: WHAT IS THE MARKUP PERCENTAGE PROFIT ARE THEY GETTING AFTER ALL THE BILLS ARE PAID, ETC.
IF A BANDLEADER IMPORTS THEIR COSTUMES FROM INDIA OR CHINA PER SAY, THE COST PER COSTUME IS QUITE REASONABLE, I HAVE EVEN MADE INQUIRY WITH ONE COSTUME MAKER IN INDIA, AND GOT A QUOTE OF $35.00 - $40.00 US TO MANUFACTURE A COSTUME. WHICH INCLUDE THE BRA, BELT, NECKPIECE, ARMBAND, LEGBAND, ALL THE BANDLEADER HAVE TO MAKE IS THE HEADPIECE.
WHY DO THEY CHARGE SUCH CRAZY PRICES LIKE $500.00US PER COSTUME?
LETS SAY IT COST THE BANDLEADER APPROXIMATELY $250.00US PER PERSON IN AN ALL-INCLUSIVE BAND, JUST IMAGINE $250.00US PROFIT PER PERSON MULTIPLE BY THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE PLAYING MAS. WHAT A PROFIT I WOULD SAY?
