One Of These Things Is Not Exactly Like The Other

You may have noticed that up until now I have refrained from commenting on any of the costume photos sent in by blog readers, however in this instance I cannot NOT comment as they affect my friends  who have some obvious costume complaints and are not satisfied with the final product. As these are my friends I am compelled to say something especially given that they are also not happy with the bullshit served to them with a smile!

First up, Wings of Isis frontline:

Prototype

Finished Product

While I cannot argue that the finished headpiece does not look nicely decorated it is glaringly obvious that the 25 or so  18 inch  Ostrich plumes from the prototype are missing on the headpiece my friend collected.

The reason my friend was given for the stripped down headpiece was that the plumes were removed after the headpiece was tested for "weight".This change in design was done without informing the masqueraders in the section and adding insult to injury the masquerader was NOT given a cape (which comes with costume) because they had to do "extra" work on her special corset (which she had made on her own and delivered to be decorated).

Prototype

Corset with the "extra" work that
eliminated the need for a cape

Are you kidding me Spice? So, removing the plumes was not enough to JUSTIFY giving this woman a cape? For the life of me I cannot see what was done "extra" on the corset seeing that the monokini is FULLY decorated and the corset is not. That bullshit excuse would be akin to TRIBE telling me no leg pieces because I have a bigger bra than an A cup and it took more gems to decorate!

My other friend is extremely unhappy with her Caspian Sea backpack :

Prototype

Finished Product

click for large view of closeup

As you can see the feathers on the backpack my friend was given are NOT the colour on the prototype; the periwinkle blue feathers have been replaced and not only that, the feathers they have been replaced with are DIRTY (see closeup image)! And while Spice's excuse to her was that the feathers represent the colour of the sea and the prototype on the website has been "touched up" I have photos taken at Spice's Media Launch with the said same prototype and the colours do NOT look touched up to me:

So this leaves my friend in Wings of Isis looking for a cape to PURCHASE or MAKE two days before Carnival Tuesday after spending close to $1000.00US on a costume that is missing feathers! And, my friend in Caspian Sea left with the choice of either spending MORE money in addition to the $933.00US she has spent on the costume, to fix it to her liking OR not playing mas at all!

Now tell me, do you think, in any realm of the imagination that this is fair to the masqueraders? Bandleaders, first rule of business the customer is ALWAYS right and instead of the excuses these two ladies could have been given some sort of recompense and alternatives to leaving costume collection unhappy, after all they PAY FOR DAT!

I have been with IP for a number of years and have NEVER had a problem until this year. In my opinion ALL THESE BANDS have lost money in some way or another and have decided to cut MANY corners! I went to pick up my BINDI frontline and my friends backline on Thursday. The horror. My costume missing RELL cloth, the jewelry that was to be given was not, it was some cheap gold looking chain with some clear rhinestones and a bullshyt bluelooking stone to go with my BURGUNDY costume.. I wish I could just sell the whole friggin costume and not play come carnival Monday and Tuesday. Its ridiculous how these band leaders are charging dam near entire body parts and NOT DELIVERING the same prototype OR quality. If only there was a way to stand our ground yet still be able to play mas for the 2011. Any suggestions Sauce?

Your friends have every right to be upset but why didn't they raise hell at Spice and have that stuff corrected before they left. That serious money they spent. That's not cutting a corner thats cutting a block.

So you mean to tell me is only now they realize there was a weight issue with the headpiece...i say is crap and is only obvious they trying to cover their behinds. They shoulda know that at the band launch, make the adjustments and show the new headpiece on the website. On the issue of the cape, it comes with the costume, corset or not. I eh see nowhere on the website or their facebook page that says "oh and if yuh get the corset option, hard luck, yuh eh getting no cape and all the plumes of feathers yuh supposed to get so suck salt.

And with the feathers, there is no excuse what-so-ever to give anybody dirty feathers....i would not even give my little girl that as a joke.

What hurts is to see that these two ladies mentioned payed EXTRA to play frontline and this is the treatment they get. I thought frontliners supposed to be treated as V.I.P's of the band. And to add insult to injury, Spice all on T.V. talking about "We try to please our customers, and all our customers are soo happy with what we have to offer" and another thing, I absolutely hate the fact that all the complaints and gripes that was on their facebook page have mysteriously disappeared.

This shyit smell worse than a newborn poopy diaper and dried up dog poop that has been left on the lawn in the sun for two days.

*waits patiently for mas.jumbie's comment*

Saucy, your friends should have raised some holy hell in Hilton, because I damn sure was not leaving there without some sort of promise of a solution. She hadda go and MAKE a cape now? Nah! That is cause for people to find their inner ghetto-rat and cuss the place down yes.

No effing way!! That phrase "Service that has become synonymous with Spice" is taking on a whole different meaning yes. Steups!

There is no way in this green earth that the "DUTTY" ole fowl they gave out as a back pack is the same or even CLOSE to the one pictured or modeled. And after spending about $1K? Nah I was sitting in jail until Ash Wednesday because some freaking body was getting a cut ass or a buss head.

And you shouldn't concern yourself with what I do with my cape that I forking pay for, as long as I pay for it I forking want it even if its to drape in my freaking bathroom.

****ok taking a whoooo saaaaa**** Its not even me and I can feel my pressure rising. I had high hopes for Spice especially after they buss "grown folks" price on people, I kept thinking well they must be ready to deliver on the service they are charging for.

And on a PR note BANDLEADERS be very careful who you try to screw over because you NEVER know whose ear they have. NOTE: its ALWAYS easier to deliver to the customer, because the next time they will tell friends how great you were. Now all this bad press for a freaking cape and a back pack. Next time treat ALL of your CUSTOMERS with dignity and respect (it goes a long way)

unlike these two ladies i didnt have a problem with my costume except for the bra to neck pieced was too long... in my opinion, anya cannot handle pressure, she needs to let rocky or nicholas handle collection because like the pressure does get to her and she will act like her high heels stuck up her ass and she begins to act like she forget how to deal with her masqueraders.

OMG! Time to start boycotting these fools and go back to sailor mas!

Ridiculousness on an unparalleled scale. Everybody who has had a problem needs to open up their big mouth! I have a friend in Harts who was getting some real trouble to pick up her costume today! Yes, Sunday! And this is the day they told her to come and get it. She almost only got only half a costume and even now has to do some fixing. BIG STEUPS.

WDMC, WTF, and WTA!!!!!
Those ladies should have NEVER left to go home and make do with that shit for mas.

Wrong in every way!

Vilma said...

well - I am from a large group of family members that play mas every damned year and we have all agreed to boycott Spice next year - not even looking at them!
