CARIBBEAN SOCA ARTIST SHURWAYNE WINCHESTER PERFORMS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PHILADELPHIA AT THE 5TH ANNUAL GLOBAL FUSION FESTIVAL




Philadelphia, PA (July 12th, 2011) Caribbean soca star Shurwayne Winchester, and his full band Y.O.U. will perform, along with R&;B headliners Estelle, Melanie Fiona and Anthony David, for the 5th Annual Global Fusion Festival (GFF) on Saturday, July 16th, 2011. The FREE concert, produced by the Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC) as part of PECO’s Multicultural Festival Series, runs from Noon to 8:00 pm at Penn’s Landing.

Born and raised on the island of Tobago, the smaller of the twin-islands of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, soca artist Shurwayne Winchester is one of the genre’s most popular performers. He was awarded Trinidad’s Carnival Road March title for two consecutive years and also captured the title of Caribbean Power Soca & Groovy Soca Monarch in 2006 with his songs ‘Can’t Wait’ and ‘Don’t Stop’. He has collaborated with numerous reggae artists including Maxi Priest, Serani, Collie Budz and Elephant Man and has performed on international stages in both Europe and the U.S.

“We are very excited to be bringing authentic talent representing the Caribbean to Global Fusion Festival”, says MAC executive director Tanya Hall. “Shurwayne’s energetic music embodies our Carnival theme and we invite our region’s Caribbean community to come and enjoy their home away from home.”
