Making "The Switch"

After Fantasy Carnival’s launch on Saturday night there is a buzz among die hard TRIBE masqueraders about making the “switch”, whether it was the pretty costumes, crowd or great time had at the launch this is now the talk being whispered about with some expressing regret that they did not wait before using their VISA card. Everyone I have spoken to has asked me at least once if I am going to “make the switch” as they know 1. I am not pleased with my costume selection in Bliss and 2. that my fantasy for Carnival 2012 was wings and with Fantasy there are wings galore to choose from.

I have to admit, the prospect of making the “switch” is a real one for several reasons. Of course the first would be costume; I am spoilt for choice with Fantasy and see several options that I absolutely LOVE. The second would be that my friends would not have to see if they get a VISA card for entry, they would most likely than not get their section of choice in Fantasy. Thirdly, from the launch I liked the crowd, as I said in my review it reminded me of TRIBE in the early days, lots of familiar faces from my era as an old Harts masquerader.

So I am going to be completely honest and say YES the possibility is that I just might make the switch. At this time I am awaiting feedback from Bliss for a request that I made concerning doing an Individual, I broke down and decided that doing my own costume would be the best option if I wanted the Bliss experience.  I love Ibiza Frontline but it is in TRIBE and I am so over the mega band especially after experiencing the intimate band. The main strong point for Bliss is the awesome, almost flawless time I had on the road this year; I mean we had the honour of christening the return of the Savannah stage! Bliss has MANY positives; it is like a premium TRIBE experience with much less people, room to move on the road and great service, what TRIBE used to be in 2005-2007. I don’t care when people say that this “service” is greatly hyped, for me personally having experienced many different bands the TRIBE/Bliss service is parallel to NONE especially when your costume money is not being spent on costume alone. And that right there is the reason I would be wary of leaving for an unknown new band.

But, all bands were new at one point in time. In making the decision to leave Poison for TRIBE in 2005 no one knew what to expect all we knew is that the time and reign of Poison for us was over. Ironically it was the size that did it for me and my friends, we decided we wanted less of hassle and freedom to play our mas without spending all day gridlocked on Charlotte Street.

And I will be honest again and admit that I also contacted Fantasy for a certain costume I have my eye on as well! I am awaiting prices and hopefully more information on their website about what the band is all about. Having spoken to friends who enjoyed the Fantasy J’ouvert experience it seems like a great time was had by all so it is just to see if this can translate into a band of 2500 masqueraders who need to be facilitated with music, food, drinks and all the other elements that go into having a great time on the road.

What will I decide? Who knows at this time I am just VERY happy to have options, and I am not discounting YUMA as well.. .they just might have something for me too! I am feeling a renewed faith that Carnival 2012 will see me very happy with the choices that I have and as “S.A.W.” said so profoundly in the comments section yesterday "Change is truly exciting! Get what you love and love what you get!"

Maybe it is time for me to make a change.
