Behold The North Stand!

Here is a short video clip of the area in the Savannah where the Grand Stands (orange structure) and North Stand (white structure) are being constructed.

North Stand

The paved area, space in between both stands, is where the stage will be!

Entrance to the stage is in the distance towards the white tents:

Carnival 2011 Officially Kicks Off

Yesterday afternoon Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival for 2011 was made official with the theme of "Back to the Savannah", while in the distance from where the celebration took place construction of the Grand and North Stands loomed.

Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston "Gypsy" Peters", joined by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, addressed the audience after a parade of traditional and conventional mas characters culminated at the Queens Park Savannah.

The Minister expressed that the People's Band is expected to be the largest band ever to hit the streets of Port of Spain and that the concept of the People's Band will be taken to Carnivals in San Fernando, Tobago and even Mayaro; the People's Band will touch ever regional Carnival as well it seems.

For me personally the launch did feel a bit like Carnival was right around the corner, and in fact seeing the costumed masqueraders on the streets of Port of Spain one could not help but feel the anticipation. I was pretty excited to see the North Stand as well as the area where the stage will be built. The evening ended with performances by Dil E Nadan, Black Stalin, Shadow and JW & Blaze adding to the Carnival atmosphere.
