Body Art Test Drive

Well, I think Carnival Jumbie is taking over with the Carnival Fever, her blog is on fire! For all those who were interested in the Body Art airtoo tattoos at Movietowne which I posted about before, check out her blog to see the results.

Ms. Diva I only have to say it looks smoking HOT!! I have been looking at stencils online but will check with Body Art to see if they have anything to match my Fireman; like I said before I know what I want and where I want it.

Thanks for the great review AND photograph of the tattoo.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

One thing that always amuses me is reading the online West Indian centric Carnival forums predicting doom and gloom for Carnival 2007. I see a big part of that forecasting is based on the fact that bands are yet to “sell out” and we are five weeks away from the greatest show on earth.

Well, from where I stand I can see a few of the big bands have yet to have a section completely sold out namely Pulse 8, Dream Team and Trini Revellers. However, trends seem to be changing as I know many people are only now registering to play mas, and I am speaking about persons that I know personally. Just yesterday my neighbor told me he registered with Trini Revellers in the section “Les Fetes”; he also went Soca in Moka and is going to QRC next week followed by Bishops. I have three friends looking for costumes in Fireman and I know a group who registered last week with Pulse 8, point being that I cannot speak for the overseas masqueraders but local Trinis are getting ready for Carnival!

In spite of all the negative predictions for Carnival 2007 by the forum experts, I see Harts has sold out two more sections! Does anyone else think that they will be the band to completely sell out before all others? Of the remaining five sections all have only female costumes available, yet again these men are not sticking when it comes to mas!

And over at TRIBE nothing has changed, Bat and Majorette are still open for females only and last I checked Island People only had Nubians, Mirage and Cacti available at the mas camp. I don’t think they have updated their website either, a cursory check would show that most, if not all, sections are showing up as unavailable when trying to register.

It remains to be seen if the forecasters are right, that Carnival 2007 will not see as many masqueraders compared to years gone by and with all the confusion surrounding the Savannah and high prices people are turning their backs on the festival.

All I can say is that I have noticed a marked increase in the number of visitors to this blog; yesterday there were over 1050 hits! If that is any indication that Carnival 2007 is in serious jeopardy, well I should just make this my last post, shut down the blog and call it a day! I don’t know about the naysayers, Carnival experts and “insiders” but I have caught the Carnival fever, it is infectious and I am ready to make Carnival 2007 MY best Carnival ever.

Week 2 Day 1

According to the 6 week fitness plan this week, week 2, should comprise of 4 days at the gym for weight training (coupled with 20 minutes of aerobic activity) and on the days not at the gym, continue the aerobic workout as usual. Yesterday it was a toss up between starting back at the gym or not, the one thing I am not looking forward to is battling the Carnival crowd at the gym, in the end I chose to do my aerobic workout and start the gym today. Yes, I know procrastinating the inevitable is not helping matters much since I HAVE to go to the gym like it or not.

My workout yesterday was a combination; I used the workout videos and also mixed in skipping and using the thigh master. It was the first time trying “Pilates for Weight Loss” yesterday and surprisingly that workout was much easier than the “Pilates for Abs”. I also did the “Pilates Energy Boost”, inveigling my husband to join me and at first he thought it was “lame” but then I saw him sweating and grunting when we reached the part called “the tree”! Not surprisingly he did not complete the entire workout, but I have to say it really does give you an energy boost! After that I did eight minute abs and eight minute buns & thighs; for those of you who do not know the video it is a workout for eight minute of constant exercises aimed at the particular body part. There is no stopping, the exercises are very standard but you do feel it! It gives a great workout in 16 minutes. Then it was on to the thighmaster, for 50 reps on that machine.

To complete the workout I did my skipping!

The original plan for yesterday was Lady Chancellor, which I am yet to tackle, but something unexpected always pop up when you least expect it so I had to modify my workout somewhat. What I am learning though, is that there really is no excuse for not working out; sometimes you don’t even need to leave your home to get your heart racing!
