Back to the Savannah for Carnival 2011?

The Trinidad Express is reporting that Carnival lovers may be able to rejoice at the return of the Savannah Stage for Carnival 2011:

Carnival 2011 may see the Parade of the Bands returning to the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, Minister of Arts and Multi-Culturalism, Winston Peters, told the Express yesterday.

However, he said he is still trying to settle in at his new ministry so he is yet to decide what he will be able to build on, as well as what new he will need to establish.

Peters also said he was very serious when he said Carnival 2011 will be the best ever and he intends to work with all stakeholders to make this happen.

’Returning to the Savannah is a consideration and we will do our best to make this happen once it is possible,’ Peters said in a telephone interview.

’I will meet with all the special interest groups, NCBA, TUCO and Pan Trinbago, with whom I am meeting on Wednesday. I may not necessarily meet with individual bandleaders, as they will be heard through the NCBA, but I will meet with as many stakeholders as need be. I don’t want to talk about plans as yet because we are still going through the records and reports.’

A return to the Savannah just MIGHT see me on the road for Carnival 2011! What are your thoughts on the possibility of crossing the Savannah Stage, some of you  for the very first time? Is this a good idea, do you prefer mas on the road and do you think it will ease or add to the congestion of bands?

Leave me a comment!

Another Day, Another Drama

Seems like a designer by the name of Mr Miller has been working with a Trinidad band making it's debut for Carnival 2011 as well as with Bajan Band Rebel Vibes and it was brought to my attention that some of the headpieces initially created for the band in Trinidad showed up in Rebel Vibes!Consequently the persons involved in the Trinidad band are not happy about this development .

In other Carnival news, Gems will be holding it's media launch on June 20th with a tentative band launch date scheduled for September 18th. A preview of costumes is expected at the media launch so I am looking forward to that.  Sneak peek of a headpiece from Gems below:
