New Look TLC Card

I am now in possession of my TLC "smart" card which is proving to be a bit too smart for me as I cannot figure out how to activate it! Anyways, the pick up was painless with no crowds at all by the mas camp. As I am going to the launch all I had to do was pay, attach my signature for collection and my TLC Card/E Ticket was given to me along with a user guide. Like the information received via email the TLC card IS your ticket to the launch as well as other TRIBE events it also comes with some other benefits as listed in the guide:

*Priority registration
*Special price tickets to TRIBE events
*Special offers/discounts at selected Sparx and TRIBE affiliates
Convenience - Load and use E-tickets for TRIBE and other events
*Load E-cash - buy food and drinks at selected events
*Invitations to exclusive events
*Greater benefits to TLC holders that attend more TRIBE events

The new "smart card" TLC is pictured above to the left of the User Guide and looks very much like the hard plastic loyalty cards you get for incentive programs such as Caribbean Miles, Magna and Hi Lo Shoppers Card with the exception that the TLC smart card is emblazoned in the TRIBE colours,. And I finally got my answer to "what happens if you loose the TLC card?" well you have to fork over $10.00 US for your carelessness in that event!

Here is hoping everyone collects or receives their card soon; if it is one thing that makes having the TLC a bonus is that it means BAND LAUNCHING IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!

Bring on the costumes.. ...I can't wait!

Edited to add:
I finally found out what the issue with activation is; the system is not up and running as yet but should be good to go after 4PM today. The hot line for any TLC activation problems is 477-6534.

Vincy Mas and Lucian Carnival Re Cap

Though the upcoming band launches for Trinidad Carnival 2008 are dominating the minds of all Carnival babies at the moment it is time to pause and take a look at our Caribbean neighbours and their Carnivals which were deemed a success by all accounts.Vincy Mas culminated with a parade of the bands on July 10th and Lucian mas took to the streets on July 17th.

One can find a review of both celebrations thanks to the power of the world wide web.

From the Lucian Carnival Blog:

Now that St. Lucia Carnival 2007 is over, it is time for the postmortem. I never understood why a postmortem. I always thought that postmortems were reserved for finding out the reasons for the death of one thing or another. While carnival is over, it is by no means dead. In fact, to hear it told by all I have spoken to, carnival has never been more alive than it was this year. The crew of Lucian Carnival would like to join in the chorus of voices congratulating all those who were involved in the planning and execution of St. Lucia Carnival 2007. Job well done. We at Lucian Carnival were happy to have been associated with bringing carnival to the people. While I knock the concept of a postmortem, I do agree that there is a need to examine all that happened this year so that we can improve the product next year. I have a few opinions to share, as do you I am sure. Trouble is our opinions may not be the same........(to read more of this postmortem click HERE)
And from Vincymas Official website:

We have come to the end of the VINCY MAS festivities for 2007 and what a tremendous season it has been - culminating in an impressive finish.

Mardi Gras was a spectacular and fabulous close to the 30th Anniversary of our June-July Carnival.

We were blessed with absolutely superb weather. The bands were many and ever-so colourful. They were greater numbers in most bands, all with very vibrant sections, and great soca music throughout the day. Everyone had good fun – the masqueraders – local and foreign, as well as onlookers. Many visitors were seen playing mas. Many Trinidadians in particular participated in several bands, integrating their own sections, and having a wonderful time......(to read more of this Message from the Chairman of CDC click HERE)
