Brian Mac Farlane’s 2012 presentation “Sanctification – in search of ”

Celebrated Carnival bandleader Brian Mac Farlane has said he will break with tradition for Carnival 2012 and ask his masqueraders to wear full costume on Carnival Monday instead of T-shirts as revelers of all Carnival bands have grown accustomed on the day.

The Woodbrook based bandleader almost didn't bring out a mas band. "Looking around at what was happening in society and how people were treating each other I told myself that I won't do it." Then Mac Farlane did what he always does when the negativity is overwhelming - he thought of his faithful masqueraders and how much they look forward to his creations. "I literally had to push myself and in mid August Sanctification was born." Mac Farlane is anxious to unveil this presentation."The vibe right now is exciting because again the presentation relates to what is happening now, - the crime, the violence, the State of Emergency. We need a cleansing; we need a sanctification of human hearts."

The band will feature the colours of Trinidad and Tobago’s national flag - red, white and black, only in Sanctification the red represents blood, black - the darkness and white - unity.

Pulse 8 "The Frontier" First Look

Pulse 8 opened their Mas Camp with a lime and showing of costumes this evening. Only five sections were on show ( seven are listed on the website) and the rather low key launch basically saw models mingling with the crowd.

Unfortunately there were no booklets so I do not know the section names, but here are a few photos of the costumes, hopefully the website will be launched soon:

Fantasy Carnival Is Sold Out - Officially

Ever since Fantasy Carnival launched in August there have been potential masqueraders eagerly awaiting any update on registration, even after they virtually went silent in cyber space on both the website and Facebook Fanpage.

Well, after much speculation about committee only registration and sold out sections, despite promises made  by Fantasy on Facebook and on their website open registration was never an option for those without a committee link and the band has now updated the website to reflect their SOLD OUT status. Now I don't know who they were trying to fool with the prospect of open registration since from the minute I heard about Fantasy I was told they would be only doing committee registration and you can read this post to jog your memory: http://www.trinidadcarnivaldiary.com/2011/06/trinidad-carnival-2012-updates.html

Clearly Fantasy does not need the public to sell out their band; is it a wise move for a brand new band? Who knows, we will see in 2013 if their strategy paid off!

Legacy Is That You?

Now when someone whispered in my ear that the body wear for Legacy's 2011 costumes were allegedly bought from Trims De Carnival (after they boasted of locally made costumes) I said to myself let me not stir up a hornets nest of bacchanal since there was no tangible proof of such accusations.

However, when I see the SAME EXACT body wear used in Harts "Planet Rock" Carnival 2011 show up in the EXACT same way for Legacy's "Flight" Carnival 2012  (they didn't even change a bead, rhinestone or sequin!) I am confused as to how two bands have the  SAME costumes in different years; did they both buy from the SAME Chinese supplier perhaps ?
