They Call me Mrs Fete :Cocoa Devils - The Review

Fete : Cocoa Devils J'ouvert in July
Price: $500.00
Date: July 15, 2012

Cocoa Devils held their J'ouvert in Pier 2 Car Park. Now I have been to Josie's Jamishness this year as well, which is another J'ouvert party held outside Carnival and with Josie's we were actually on the road. Cocoa everything took place inside the Car Park as in you had an area to fete, then music trucks circled the perimeter with cocoa soaked revellers following until the climax of crossing a stage built for the event. Admittedly at first I missed the actual road experience but crossing the stage was fun so was getting SOAKED to the bone by water trucks; I think that is actually the best part.

It's a Car Park with tents/bars and a stage, that is about it.

The bars were always crowded and though they had Johnnie Walker Black that ran out around 5am, followed by Single Barrel until there was just Black Label rum left. I didn't have anything else so cannot comment on what other options there were at the bar. I must say the servers were very generous on doubling up your order which saved multiple trips to the bar.

Doubles, soup and ham sandwiches. They were serving food from early which was great I just wish I actually had something to eat!

Crowd Vibe:
Absolutely loved the crowd at Cocoa, when they say "nice people, dirty fun" it is true. Nice mix of all age groups and social circles coming together and partying hard until the sun came up. I saw lots of people  and faces that I knew, it was as if this was the event to be at last weekend. I mean when people fly in from the U.S. and Malaysia and you see them at Cocoa (Carnival Jumbies!) that just confirms it for me.

Eye Candy
Shirtless guys covered in chocolate and being soaked with water when the sun came up? Oh yeah! The women represented as well; lots of beautiful people.

The random wildness of spraying people with paint at Caesar's Army A.M. Bush and Josie's was sadly not to be as the application of chocolate was a controlled process by chocolate bucket bearers who were VERY enthusiastic in smearing chocolate ALL over your body. I missed the paint. Random thought; chocolate is smelly.

Overall Rating:
I would give Cocoa an 8 out of 10. I have discovered I am not a fan of being covered in chocolate, well at least not until the Johnnie kicks in and then everything is fun! I misused points for not actually being on the road however the entire experience holistically was great I had a really good time and would definitely put this on the calender of "must do events" for the year.
