Rumours, Hearsay and Gossip!

If the rumours are true seems like one Carnival Band may be left without costumes for Carnival 2011 ! I have been VERY reliably informed that the band in question is not doing well in sales and to date have failed to get more than 600 masqueraders registered even though they pre ordered 2000 costumes from a producer. Since the band cannot provide full payment or even the deposit of 80,000 to ensure shipment from China, where the costumes are manufactured, the producer has stated that the costumes will NOT be shipped unless they pay up. Looks like the very generous line of credit this band was used to has dried up as many attempts to beg for an extension of credit have allegedly been futile.

All the costumes will be trapped in China if payment is not forthcoming soon and we will probably see the same designs at another regional or international Carnival because the producer will sell them to recover money already spent to produce! I was also told if by some miracle this band can find the money to pay they will ONLY get the number of costumes they pay for and not the whole lot of 2000. Well, I hope that somebody's pockets are deep enough to cough up the cash or they see about getting a Carnival loan from Republic Bank since they already have registered masqueraders, small as that number might be! Maybe they are depending on a rush of last minute sales, like this year, to get the cash but the supplier is saying pay up first, no more credit!

Anybody need a Carnival loan.. steups?

And, the theme of money woes seems to be running through this band. About a month ago news came to me that an investor and committee member instrumental in procuring music for the band, had left.  Reason being that although this person was an investor, control and say in the band rest solely  with Daddy Warbucks and the Bandleader. Upon leaving and inquiring about a return on his investment, Daddy Warbucks told the investor on the outs that the band was strapped for cash, did not have proper accounting procedures and he had to wait to get back his money!

In addition to that investor leaving, the entire design team has also left, save the Bandleader. Again, money problems are reportedly to blame as the designers are YET to be paid the $5000.00 per design they were promised , they were told the band has no money I heard. This news seems so shocking as these designing ladies were also part of the committee and a very prominent marketing tool for the band.

One of the design team has migrated to another POPULAR band and the gossip is that the Bandleader is living like a Rockstar while not wanting to pay any of the designers, tsk tsk!

Hope they get their money situation sorted out soon as Carnival insiders are saying that this band has officially "BUSS"!
