Elements Band Launch

Spice update

Contrary to reports about the sold out sections in Spice, which were reserved during the preview, those sections are not Brown Sugar and Sea Salt.

However, Melilot Blue and Mediterranean Borage are the sold out sections. I was informed that sections will be increased in size by 50 extra spaces when registration starts ON FRIDAY 25th July, so for those with an eye on those sections you know what to do!

Ok, so hopefully all the mis-information has been cleared up!

Who is getting your costume money?

I am really liking Element's slogan "do not gamble with your costume money", maybe not for the reasons they intended, however I do think with more new bands coming unto the Carnival scene this year competition will be stiff! Some masqueraders will take the gamble to wait for their favourite band to launch, even while fabulous costumes tantalize them. Others might register in a new band just to secure a spot in a section they love, waiting for other bands to launch before deciding on which band they will play with. Then there are masqueraders who have no loyalty to any one band and will play in a costume of their heart's desire whether it is a new band or not. Not to mention there are masqueraders who play mas in the band their friends are playing in/have chosen, regardless of what their personal choice might be. And of course we have the die hard loyalist who will unwaveringly support their favourite band, no matter what or who comes along. I think it is not the MASQUERADERS taking the gamble but the BANDS!

At this stage I have no idea which bands will sell out or not; though a few are boasting that their friends and supporters have already secured spaces in the band, costumes unseen. Price is going to be a major factor in many people's decisions I think;Kaotic has stated all their costumes will be under $3000.00, I wonder if that includes frontlines? While Spice has given a price range between $2300.00 and $4500.00; I have no idea what Evolution's prices are. For sure I am expecting TRIBE to raise prices, again, and Island People to price their costumes in the same range as TRIBE's; I am guessing regular costumes might range from $3000.00 to $3500.00, frontlines from $4000.00 to $5,500.00/$6000.00. This is just my guess based on the steady increase in costume prices since 2004.

With both Kaotic and Spice starting registration this week, TRIBE's launch on Saturday followed by Elements, then Harts, D Krewe and Island People 3 weeks later it seems as if some bands are ahead of the race while others will have to play catch up! Why is no one launching the weekend of August 2nd, I wonder? Secretly I wish Island People would launch then so that masqueraders can have most of their choices laid out before them; not to dismiss the other bands that will also be launching in August but the two main band launches everyone looks forward to are TRIBE and Island People!

And while I am 100% sure that I know which band will be getting my money for 2009, many bloggers are undecided! For sure things have gotten interesting with new bands in the mix! So, which bands are you gambling on playing with for Carnival 2009 or are you placing your bets on the tried, tested and true? Leave your comments and vote in the poll!
