One thing that always amuses me is reading the online West Indian centric Carnival forums predicting doom and gloom for Carnival 2007. I see a big part of that forecasting is based on the fact that bands are yet to “sell out” and we are five weeks away from the greatest show on earth.
Well, from where I stand I can see a few of the big bands have yet to have a section completely sold out namely Pulse 8, Dream Team and Trini Revellers. However, trends seem to be changing as I know many people are only now registering to play mas, and I am speaking about persons that I know personally. Just yesterday my neighbor told me he registered with Trini Revellers in the section “Les Fetes”; he also went Soca in Moka and is going to QRC next week followed by Bishops. I have three friends looking for costumes in Fireman and I know a group who registered last week with Pulse 8, point being that I cannot speak for the overseas masqueraders but local Trinis are getting ready for Carnival!
In spite of all the negative predictions for Carnival 2007 by the forum experts, I see Harts has sold out two more sections! Does anyone else think that they will be the band to completely sell out before all others? Of the remaining five sections all have only female costumes available, yet again these men are not sticking when it comes to mas!
And over at TRIBE nothing has changed, Bat and Majorette are still open for females only and last I checked Island People only had Nubians, Mirage and Cacti available at the mas camp. I don’t think they have updated their website either, a cursory check would show that most, if not all, sections are showing up as unavailable when trying to register.
It remains to be seen if the forecasters are right, that Carnival 2007 will not see as many masqueraders compared to years gone by and with all the confusion surrounding the Savannah and high prices people are turning their backs on the festival.
All I can say is that I have noticed a marked increase in the number of visitors to this blog; yesterday there were over 1050 hits! If that is any indication that Carnival 2007 is in serious jeopardy, well I should just make this my last post, shut down the blog and call it a day! I don’t know about the naysayers, Carnival experts and “insiders” but I have caught the Carnival fever, it is infectious and I am ready to make Carnival 2007 MY best Carnival ever.

saucy, i'm an overseas masquerader and i've caught the carnival fever - stage or no stage, savannah or no savannah, i comin' to play mehself!! : )
'amen to dat!
morning saucy, dont worry i am very excited, I even have my computer counting down the days. My crew and myself are all ready to take trinidad by storm although a number of people i know are having mad drama. For example Caribbean Airways now wants over 2400TT for a ticket, people that had their acommodation booked since last yr are now being told that they have to send down their payment now and they they have to stay a minimum of 7 days. Not to mention alot of Bajans have decided that they cant afford to play mas and do the fetes as well. Last year I decided not to play mass and on carnival day i almost cut my risk at that decision when i saw everyone on the road in costume LOL. I just want to remind everyone not to get discouraged cause all the stress will be worth it when we jumping and waving like a bunch of crazy ppl. carnival ah comin!
Is that $2400.00TT from Bim to TT? :O
Dem accomodation people bright but yuh know is the same ting on other islands for peak periods like Jazz in St. Lucia or even during Cropover in Barbados.
As you said, things will sort themselves out in the end.. and I if I had a choice of no fetes or mas...well I taking the mas!
I'm another overseas masquerader that has the carnival fever...although there will be no BIG STAGE to cross this year and my costume costs almost as much as my rent Carnival 2k7 will SEE ME THERE!!!
bajangal, Caribbean airlines is SICK!!! Out of curiosity i called to price a ticket (for the time i ususaly go for) they said $1135USD...GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!! (although i think in years to come, that MIGHT be the price i'll have to pay to come home)....so unfortunate!!
anon you got me cracking up but u r right the airline prices are crazy. the only other option is caribbean star who is charging over 1800TT but the catch is that the flight is much longer and the plane is small.
Yes Saucy they want over 2400TT. A flight that was 900TT last year. I know 4 people that have taken out small loans inorder to afford the tickets, fetes and costume. I thought it was crazy but now I see that it is practical if u want to be comfortable and have a good. time.
My uncle & aunt cancelled their trip from NY when they heard the ticket would be $1100 AA.
I definitely have the the carnival fever.
The airline prices, costume prices, fete ticket prices could put a hiccup in your plans. However, if you are one of those folks that know that you can't miss carnival and no matter what, you going home to play your mas - the answer is simple - budget. As soon as I reach home last year in a month I had my funds together for 2K7 and I am such a planner that I started checking for flights to Trini back in March only to be told via the computer that it is too early and that I should check back for flights in X amount of days. Well I set up my Outlook to remind me that I have to begin the search for my ticket and low and behold I found a ticket non stop to Trini under $500USD for the time frame that I wanted. All I needed was my costume. I registered in TRIBE in the section that I wanted. I already organized my rent a car. I am now in the process of organizing which fetes I will be spreading my love...LOL.
I am not saying that things don't happen even when you budget. For example my SO and I just found out last night that we need to redo our sewer system in our house and it will cost upwards of $20,000USD. We just looked at each other and said well it has to be done BUT thank God we already planned and paid for our carnival trip. Hence, HERE WE COME...
Saucy, you had better not discontinue writing this blog...you have be a God send...thanks a million...
I CAN'T WAIT...SEE YA ON D'ROAD!!!
gtwarrior you are like me, I am a planner who makes vacation plans months in advance taking advantage of low ticket prices and deals/specials.
I don't wait until last minute, especially for something like Carnival.. but I guess you figured that already.. is 5 months now I planning !
Sauce,
Remember my last sister was stickin qwith buying her ticket. Well I don't know how, but last week my cousin in Florida got her a ticket on American from DC to Trini for $685!!!! We almost fell out. And its not a shuttle service flight either, only one stopover in Miami, which is normal. Last minute deals is no joke I guess!!
what!!!!!! Ask you sister how she found that deal cause real people bawling at the ticket prices right about now.
-HARTS ALERT-
'Benin' is sold out.
LOL squeezle girl you does crack me up!
I definately hav the carnival fever, and I an trying to get my body into shape. The prices are very steep and this year i hav to budget. I feelin the pain of all those overseas who hav to pay those high prices. This is Madness.
lov Warriorspirit
Saucy, I maccoing that website day and night because I'm trying to convince one of my buddies to play mas' this year.

saucy, i am also a trini living in ny and i would not miss carnival for the world!!! We started budgeting our money from since the end of the last carnival and can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sauce, I'll ask my sister how they pulled that one off.
Masquerader doh make smoke!! Thing is real people was waiting on Mc Farlane and I know real people overseas send their peeps to pay down on their costume. Let all dem naysayers take dat!
kevian I see a few Fireman costume for sale on Carnival junction but when I call one it sell already; the others too small for the two chicks that want to play. So I called TRIBE and got put on the waiting list, yesterday I got a call that a Fireman come through in the size ah was looking for so meh fren take dat.. the other 2 still waiting to see what comes up. If they get costumes go eb 6 ah we in Fireman !!
Budget, Budget, Budget dat is my motto goes for everything including vacations. smart move anon!

I am overseas from St. Thomas and I love carnival! This will be my first time playing in Trinidad and looking forward to it. Saucy, your blog is one of the first things I look at when I come in to work in the morning. You keep me and my crew well informed. I'm playing with IPM, Sahara Jumbie. A lot of budgeting was involved to plan this trip but we jumped on it earrrrrrrly! Thanks for the blog and all the helpful tips...
