Carnivalscene is quick on the draw today with a new gallery of Sahara pics!enjoy.
Harts website is FINALLY up, thanks anonymous for tipping me off.Harts seems to be moving with the times, they have a 360 degree gallery!
Well I must hand it to TRIBE, even though the website is not 100% up and running, you can access photos of the costumes so they met their deadline to have the website up by today. After a sensory overload of Island People's costumes I found myself enjoying looking at the comparativiely simpler, but still quite effective, costumes of TRIBE.
I called Island People's mas camp to find out about registration and they told me to call back on Friday for more information on that and when the website will be up.On another note I called Sonia Mack as well and was told that registration for her section should begin early next week, I was told to call back on Monday for more details pricing.
And with permission from
BAMABAC.com I have two video clips from Island People's Launch that I am so generously allowed to share with everyone who visits my blog;

So who yuh think yuh playin' mas wit now???
I am waiting to see what procedure Island People puts in place for registering before thinking of switching. With no Poison and Tribe giving preference to their supporters with the TLC cards I am forseeing a huge, unprecented rush to get into Island People unless their prices keep people at bay and awaiting Pulse 8.
For now a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, I know I can register easyily with TRIBE with my first choice of costume...I am thinking it hard to give that up to HOPE to get into the section I like in IP.
I really like 3 sections in Island People; Oasis, Nubians and Sacred Sand but I also like Fireman in Tribe my #1 choice.
Hello saucydiva, I am so glad to find your site! All info about mas I want to know is here! Also, updated faster than anywhere else! I am thinking of playing mas in Trinidad carnival '07 for the very first time and the info you providing is very useful for me...Thanks so much. I will keep checking out.
If you have a chance, please take a look at my website. My husband and I design a clothing line inspired by Trinidadian culture:

Harts website is up and their prices are reasonable!!!
Any opinions on the harts costumes?
I believe I gave my opinions on Harts costumes in an earlier post; those capes have got to go and photograph the costume outside of the studio instead of those shots with a black background which makes the costumes look the same every year. The truth is there are subtle changes to the costumes such as in the neckpieces, waistbands etc. but they still look very much like a typical Harts costume.
The sections I like are Benin and Atlantis I think those three costumes are a bit different from what Harts normally does.
I agree 100 percent about the capes AND the photography. Especially when you compare their images to the stunning photography on Tribe's website.
The Harts pictures are dark and murky, and the colours are distorted because they are not being shot in natural light.
And what's the point of a 360 degree view with those stupid capes in the way?
Meanwhile, they have tons of tired old video clips of the band from this year, and they STILL haven't even put up the 'On the Road 2006' pictures. Shouldn't they have done that 6 months ago?
They really should have re-directed their website building resources into showing the costumes more clearly and with more detail. On Tribe's website, you can see right down to the finest strand of hot glue residue hanging from a waistband, for crying out loud!!!
I know, I'm Harts bashing, but I really, truly enjoy playing mas' with this band, and I think they NEED to do more to make their band more attractive to potential customers. It's true that they are a niche band, but if they continue to be resistant to innovation, they might lose loyal customers to bands that have something more to offer.
Thanks so much for this site. As a Trini living away and making desperate plans to not miss another Carnival again (this year was torture!) I hate being out of the loop. The costumes are lovely and is a good thing I working for £s 'cause I'm sure that's the only way I could afford it! I have to get on so bad the whole of town speaks about it to make sure I get MY money worth. I wasn't impressed with Tribe this year though, but I understand what you're saying. Just how bad was IP's organisation this year though?
And what really happening with the savannah? Doh tell meh ah wasn't dey fuh de last time masqueraders get to cross the stage?!
hottie hottie I don't know about the IP experience on the road as I did not play with them and I will leave it up to those who did to answer your question. The only thing I know of was that some costumes were not delivered on the advertised day, as reported in the Newspapers, and people were very angry.According to the Newspaper the costumes did not arrive in the country on time and as a result some masqueraders never got their complete costume to wear on Monday and Tuesday.
As for the Savannah nothing is being done as yet.......something tells me we will be crossing the same old grand Savannah stage in 2007.
I have seen the plans for the Cultural Complex/Musuem they want to build and it's impressive but will not be done in the timeframe given. Apart from that I heard that there are issues with using the Savannah to build that structure and it is not coming cheap!!!!!!!!!
To be honest I don't know anything concerning that issue with the stage. All i know is carnival must go on and once my spine could wine i doh care where i doing it..lol.
those models in the clips look like they don't know what to do! And that Machel clip is so not impressing me!
