Begging them to take yuh money

Well, I never read something as ignorant as what I read on the Rumshopmadness forum this morning and it get me vex, so vex I considered joining the forum to post a response but I already know that it will come down to a strong defense for a stupid point. So, since I can post whatever I damn well please on my blog I will say what I have to say here. These are quotes from a poster on that forum regarding Island People's silence on registration:

"I don't think anything suspicious is going on with the amount of time they're spending to put up stuff.
People are so ready to hurry up and come n harrass the damn ppl, the ppl cyan even ketch themselves.
Patience is a virture. If people can't wait then tell dem find a next band.
I was never a fan of this launching early crap, so they can take as long as Dec. if they want.
I rem. buying my 2k5 costume in January while in TnT, now everything is one big rush to get in de band, and to put a downpayment down in august/sept.
steups."

"When the time is right, they will make their announcement and broadcast their movements. Until that point, people need to relax and have patience.

Let me stress this point, Islandpeople isn't begging masqueraders to come play with them, it's the other way around, and if people don't like how they're going about their process, they are more then welcome to venture to one of the many other masbands in TnT.

When they launch they launch their website, I don't understand why people fretting up themselves.

Ip is not the only band in Trinidad, this band as well as many others get too much attnt.

If ppl don't like their customer service skills, find a new band, n move along!!!

All these options of mas in TnT yet we stay focused on 2.
I done!!!"

Hear nah, so what I am understanding it is OUR fault for harassing the people why they taking their cool time with releasing information,? And on top of that they are not BEGGING us to play with them is the other way around, so as a result they can treat their masqueraders like crap if they like ? And if the masqueraders can't handle that treatment they are free to find a next band?

Well, I am not playing with Island People but I find for those who are that is real nonsense. I am not attacking the band just the sentiments being echoed by people who are willing to excuse what I see as pure discourtesy to masqueraders who are willing to fork over thousands of dollars to a business place.

If information was forthcoming there would be need for a barrage of phone calls or emails from people who support your business so it is inane to say that WE need to stop harassing them like they did not know the steps that follows a launch, have your agenda organized so that things will run smoothly, and even if you have hiccups at least INFORM the public.

And secondly, I am stunned that someone would be so boldface to say THEY not begging US to play with them, it is the other way around and if people don't like it they can go to another band. If someone tells me that about a company I was going to spend $3000.00 of my hard earned money on I would be hot footing it to another company. That sort of smug attitude does piss me off to no end.

It amazes me how everybody is now a mas expert and saying when mas bands should and should not launch. I am playing mas donkey years, and when I started playing "big people" mas I have been going to Harts band launching in August and registering for my costume soon after. I don't know about registering in November and December, though I know it happens with other bands.

The fact is nowadays is not long time days when the number of people playing mas was much less and you had comparatively less bands. Now we have more bands with more masqueraders and in order to get organized AND allow people time to pay for their costume most bands are now launching earlier. What is the big deal in that? Do you really think you as a mas band leader, can show up in December to place an order by the company who is making the bikini or headpieces and get them made by January when they are also making the same for other bands? There are so many little things that go into bringing a band that the masquerader has no idea of, and if you not organized as a mas band you will fail in your delivery.

And what about the stress on your pocket, imagine you have to fork over $900.00 in December to pay down on your costume and in January you have to pay off the next $2100.00? I know lots of people who use the early launch as an opportunity to save or make payments towards their costume. I for one stretch out my costume payments over the months, budgeting accordingly so I won't have to "feel it" when I have to pay off the balance.

So, I am not blaming Island People for the mentality expressed by that poster, I just think it is a damn shame that they are willing to accept and excuse mediocrity. I am not forking over $3000.00 of my hard earned money in silence, if people need to be called out for doing crap I opening my mouth and saying so until they get their act together. But, honestly, if it were me, I would really take that advice and find a next band to play with!If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

Saucy! Like yuh read meh mind girl! Check out meh post today - I saying the same thing. Island People has a lot to prove after the debacle of this year so they should be trying extra hard to prove to the public that those were just teething problems. The thing is, people - not just IP but ALL busienesspeople - test to see how far they can go. WE are the ones that have to pay our money. And if IP comes out and say registration will be in October/November then people will have an idea as to what is going on. As it is, no one knows anything. But what else can you expect from a blog named after the copious consumption of alcohol?!

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

I just read you blog, great minds think alike LOL.I suppose is because you are a Goddess and I am Diva why we expect to be treated as such :D

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

well I read that nonsense last night but I refuse to comment. I have now learned to ignore his foolishness after my last sparring battle w/ him on that forum. He locked the post where I insisted on defending Tribe after he insisted on talking shite about them (a band he NEVER played with mind you). It looks like he was spouting word for word the same damn thing Trini Exhibitionist said on imix. Leave them and their shit. If they willing to accept being treated like their $ is worthless - they deserve every INCONVENIENCE that band dishes out to them!

Anonymous said...

I have to agree with you on this...
I cannot believe that people are taking this kind of behaviour from IP. If Tribe had not kept me informed all the way,I would be taking my money elsewhere for sure.
They're not understanding the term Customer Service at all. I'd rather have someone say "We're running behind and have loose ends to tie up" rather than the frustration of not being able to get any sort of information.

monrnin !!
saucy gyul, i vex all how. i feelin real shame for IP cause they showin up deyself real bad. I played withthem this year and i had a great time. i want to play with them next year again, but they treatin meh real bad.

on one hand i want to say that they doh HAVE to tell the public anything, and its only because TRIBE is so organized thatthey lookin so bad

BUT i realize that that is real chupidness. the new trend is for early registration. if yuh wasn't prepared to register nobody then don't launch !!! as simple as dat. we would nothave all these prob;ems if yuh didntlaunch. yes ppl would still have been anxiously awaiting the launch, but that is all. As soon as you launch you are telling the public that you will soon be ready for them and clearly IP is not. What am i to expect on the road monday and tuesday ?

i eh know what else to say. the website eh up, we have no idea of the prices (other than what i estimate based on meh mas-playin) so we could mull it over in the mean time, we eh gettin to email, no post on the website, no announcement on the radio !!!
WHATTHE HELL THEY TAKE WE FOR !!

but saucy, the saddest thing is that i will probably still end up playin withcthem because i like the costumes. and i think that is what they ridin on - they know that even with all of this it go still have a mad rush for dey costume......

oh gaawd, lemme go. ah runnin meh mout or too long.......lol

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

yup, and don't feel the only other alternative is TRIBE, there are other bands that I would give my money faster than IP. Pulse 8 has been doing a great job so far and I can see a few costumes there I could play in.Harts has some very nice costumes and they are the leader when it comes to organization.I am also waiting to see what Dream Team, Brian Mc Farlane and Trini Revellers have to offer as well. We have choices, is time people really wake up and realise that.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

anon, I eh vex wid yuh if you play with them, the thing I vex for is when you as a masquerader making noise other people telling yuh shut up or play with a next band. Don't feel these bandleaders don't be peeping on forums or for all you know they peepin this blog, they know what going on. So if they see people want information and they SMART they will give them something to hold on to. But if yuh eh say nuttin they will do nuttin.

Hottie Hottie said...

Awrite. I now got some very important information that I must pass on. Island People registration is TOMORROW. They will NOT be having online registration as they do not have the infrastructure in place. I have PLENTY to say about this but that will come later as I have work to do and I blasted vex.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

hottie hotie doh fack meh up .....what it is you really saying? You sure that is not a rumor?

Hottie Hottie said...

Spoke to someone IN THE CAMP. Said they had to make a business decision based on their resources and it's unfortunate etc, etc. Can't say more cuz I could get people in trouble. The thing is, the way how things going - and considering the fact that it is IP - I would not be entirely surprised if the story changes. But it seems to be pretty official.

Hottie Hottie said...

Saturday was registration for IP members. Real cloak and dagger stories. Like they really thrying an "us vs them" with Tribe. What do they think they're doing with all this subterfuge? Upstaging them?

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

wait, you mean Saturday the 9th was registration or Saturday the 16th IS registration ?

Morning Saucy!!

If what hottie saying is true, IP proved my point....last minute foolishness. So if I out the country and my money in the bank here, I'm in a pickle to get things in order for TOMORROW. I feel for all those people outside of Trinidad (especially our Carnival tourists) who don't know much about how this process works. Automatically they at a disadvantage. Dat real sour. And nobody have any idea how much the costumes cost.
This is 2006 and the dynamics of mas playing is constantly evolving. If claiming to be in the forefront of this evolution you have to make the grade. Especially when you charging people real paper.
The very fact that people have the mentality as noted by those posts Saucy proves the kind of mentality that we as a people (i mean ALL of us in a general sense) have. And it is precisely why we not getting getting better in every aspect of life here in TriniTrini. We not demanding it. AS you said, nothing wrong with delays and setbacks, but ain't nothing wrong with sending out a lil' mass email either.
I ain't business with TRIBE vs IP because as you said, we have plenty options, so who want to make that the issue missing the point.

Plain talk.....bad manners!!

Anonymous said...

Girl please join, I can't be the only one trying to reason with them. But I don't blame allyuh for not bothering because I'm getting tired. But one point I will continue to reiterate because I can't stand to see foolishness: If one band continues to do foolishness and the people STILL go in. They deserve whatever crap they get because all this lack of communication is really looking bad for a band that had so many hiccups last year. You would think they'd learn thier lesson! And those who defend such foolishness deserve to be in a band or any unorganized entity on the planet.

Anonymous said...

hottie....are you for real....
humph...IP not easy boy...how they just leaving out the overseas people so...geezzzzzzzz

If there is no online registration look out. I want to see what the "follow them to hell and back" people are going to do and say.

Hottie Hottie said...

I have had this info confirmed by two other people so far since I first posted. I still gathering mehslef. Wait for it allyuh. Wait.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Well nothing will be released from IP's camp until FRIDAY. I finally got through to a real LIVE person at the mascamp and they said they are not releasing info to the public until FRIDAY. All speculation will continue until then..FRIDAY.

Hottie Hottie said...

Meanwhile they telling dey fren and dem 'tomorrow'

Hottie Hottie said...

Alyuh hear that only some sections all inclusive in IP?

Anonymous said...

It's 11am on Tuesday 12th...thanks for giving me IP's number cause I am here in Miami..I called and someone answered (that was luck). The person said that they are currently updating their site and it should be up by the end of the week with dates etc. He also said they dont have any information about when registration will start but to call on Friday. I told him that their name is really going down in everyone's bad books and they should at least post something on their site, even if it means you giving a two week time frame of when registration will begin. He was pleasant and said he will pass the word on. I told him that ppl talking and they dont have good things to say. I am a Tribe follower and was considering switching this year because I loved Tribe's costumes..they always seem to be a step above Tribe in designing but with all the disorganization, I will probably stay in Tribe, even if I am not loving the prices and the costumes but they are way more organized and you are guaranteed a great time

Anonymous said...

Yeah I heard about the "all-inclusive" thing. Hmph! Intresting indeed. Yuh see me, I'm going to try my best to "keep my mouth shut" from now on.. sit back and watch the plot unfold. I have too much to study, like school and working out for carnival. ;-)

keep the info coming peoples,,i was about to call them myself,,i have NO plans in place right now if IP dont do online registration for us foreigners who jumped with them this year and coming back for more, a party of 3 of us for 2K6 has now grown to 9 so i have to consider others as well,,ouch,,regardless as a former patron I want extra special treatment like how TRIBE honoring their loyal players. I expect a nice little email saying welcome back, thanks for giving us a second chance, all we need is your credit card number and we have a costume for you and this time we treating you a little better cause we took more care in giving you value for your money...I would be upset if IP does anything different. But then again, the fella who posted the comment that have everyone upset helped me face reality,,IP does not have to beg me to come back to them, the demand is fever pitch right now, I had a GREAT time this year despite the hiccups, myself and many many more want back in. Sad but thats the truth,,oh the agony. I'll say a little mantra each day to help things along ,,say it with me IP folks "island People in de air, island people in de air" and just in case of "murphy's law" I guess i better take a peep at the other camps, Pulse 8 and Dream team since TrIBE doh want me either (sob),,I only know about the existence of Pulse and Dream via Saucy's blog. thank you Sauce..any more thoughts on bringing out your own band?

Anonymous said...

See Saucy!! People are standing up and taking notice of your blog. Look today IP answering their phones, and treating their clients like people!
One pat on the back for you today IP, keep it coming. I still say y'all can post a notice to the website informing people of what you telling them on the phone, so EVERYONE can know.
And all-inclusive sections are SOOOO 2 years ago!! But like you Shandy, I keeping quiet bout this henceforth.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

I feel is the tongue lashing Nicky give them..LOL. I too am surprised they answering the phone today but KEEP IT UP IP!

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

sorry I meantt the tongue lashing anon give them...

Hottie Hottie said...

Nicky, you need to try and find out about that online registration because a VERY GOOD source (as good as it gets, actually)assured me that WILL NOT because they trying to streamline the production and they don't have time/resources for that

See Saucy!! People are standing up and taking notice of your blog. Look today IP answering their phones, and treating their clients like people!

It simply goes to prove the old adage:
THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

Allyuh doing a fantastic job in greasing dey arse and applying de presshah...Folks are paying C-U-S-T-O-M-E-R-S and deserve the gold standard in treatment. Ah tell yuh what doh:

there wasnt any online registration last year either, yet as an american masquerader my registration went VERY smoothly. The woman i deal with handled our groups registration very professionally and pleasantly. yes island peoples website needs to be updated. but if you playin with TRIBE or HARTS or PULSE 8 why do you give a hoot? why you so concerned with when island peoples website launchin, which band inclusive, exclusive, how much alcohol in the band, and why you wasting your time throwing around rumors and hearsay if you already proclaim IP is shit and you not playin with them?

i guess people just like to talk they shit. its just a curious thing to me and im beginning to wonder what people real motives is in this thing.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Trust me anon, if I did not have my friend's interest at heart to register her for Island People I would not be giving a shit.As I said before my friend left Trinidad to go to NY on vacation and asked me to get her and her friend registered since we both thought IP's registration would have started by now.She is coming back home tomorrow and TRUST me this drama will be all hers!I passing the baton.

And,several people who are not living in Trinidad have emailed me to ask about IP, since they are not getting any official info, and when is their registration. Just because I am not playing with them does not mean that if someone asks and they don't live here I won't try to get info for them.

Plus some people are still undecided on which band they are playing with so they could talk all they want!

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

And besides, all them KNOW IT ALL who not playing with TRIBE or never played with TRIBE does be the first to run dey mouth like a diarreah, lambasing and badtalking TRIBE this and TRIBE that so what make Island People immune from talk? steups! give me a break!

Hottie Hottie said...

Ummm... Because I am one of the people who planned on playing with IP. AND I am based in another country. AND I have been calling, have had people calling on my behalf etc with no response. And annonymous 12.25, you are one of few people I've heard say they've had a positive experience with IP. Nobody throwing any rumours around - at least I'm not. People just passing on information as they learn it - which we would not have to do if IP was keeping us up to date. I have no problem with registration being later than other bands you know. Just let me have some idea as to what's going on so I can decide. If people in the camp saying they're disorganised and they're not sure what's going on, where does that leave the general public and worse yet, those of us who are based away and need to put things in place to organise our business?

Anonymous said...

Cause Carnival is "WE Ting"!! That's why we give a damn (you know what, let me speak for myself). And I especially get picky cause it have mad people who form their impression of Trinidad and Tobago as a whole based on their Carnival experience, and I happen to care very much about how people view our little slice of paradise. We done small already. So all the people who promoting "WE Ting" i.e. people involved in Carnival, need to put their best foot forward. Especially the more internationally renound bands like IP, Tribe, Hearts etc. etc.
And I'm very sorry, but to take the mindset that because something don't affect me, I shouldn't care, is yet another reason why there is so much nonsense going on everywhere...its called ignorance. Look at how people on here calling for IP to step up their game and they appear to be doing it. We're happy for that. Do it right no one will complain.
And I'll knock ANY band that out there promoting themselves as the place to be for 2007 and not living up to what is promised. That's false advertising and it should not be condoned.

Plain talk....bad manners!

Now I going back and do the people work. And I really done this time.

Hottie Hottie said...

Well said Operation! Well said! Imagine I sending people in the office information about mas and them asking me how come they can't get on to IP but they can get on to the others. It's not just pretty costumes and a fake camel yuh know. It have plenty sweat behind it too

Anonymous said...

im not saying people are not entitled to their opinion. what i am saying is its one thing when someone makes constructive criticism for the sake of improvement and bettering a situation. its quite another when it seems people is just bashing to bring another band down, or bashing just to bash out of idleness, or bashing just to put out negative vibes.

hottie, if i am the first person to say anything positive about IP that you have heard, why were you considering playing mas with them? im not being a smart ass, im just curious

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

anon, I have given criticism saying that all that's needed is communication, and I was quite pissed to read this morning someone else's view that we should all shut up or play with another band since we begging IP to play with them not vice versa.I am not bashing IP for that person's thinking, I said what I had to say on what HE said.If you notice, the majority of oeople who are vex with IP are the ones who want to play with them.

Anonymous said...

I give a damn! Just because I'm playing in a different band doesn't mean I shouldn't want to see ALL bands succeed. Because in the end I'm a Trini and I don't want non-Trinis to think some of our bands are promoting mediocrity. All bands should step up thier games in whatever they do best and make Trini carnival a great experience for all! Regardless of capacity.

Anonymous said...

well... from what I know although they may not have online registration there is a contact in NY, FL, Canada, and London.. I usually call the NY contact who sends me the spreadhseet for the sizes (since i usually have a large group) and we followed Galvanize Ent from poison to IP... and than we either give him the credit card info or i send him a check.. and thats that.. so the online registratioin thing is not a big deal... once I get in..
Oh god! I on this blog again...

Anonymous said...

Lisa (NY) is correct, last carnival IP did not have online registration i am in FL and the FL mailbox i could not get thru and i had to use the contact in Canada, she emailed me and kept me in the loop constantly, the reason i did ended up not playing with them cause of the Western Union that i had to do to give them the deposit, i just did not want to do it and i found another band that was easier to get in that i also liked their costumes. I aint loyal to no band i want to try all the bands out there but one day my loyality will lie with the band that i have the best experience with.

Saucy your blog is whats keeping us informed i always tell you keep up the good job and i will tell you again today is a real good day lots of opinions good and bad and lots of information.

PS I am like Hottie want to play with IP but like Saucy said if they are not making any attempts to communicate with us and especially with us in the states then i am considering giving other mas camps a look more so than before. It would be nice to see where we all end up.

Hottie Hottie said...

Anonymous, what I actually said was

"And annonymous 12.25, you are one of few people I've heard say they've had a positive experience with IP."

I wanted to play with them because the costumes are lovely and I was willing to put down the bad experiences to teething problems. Everybody needs a chance. The thing is, they haven't really done anything so far to convince me that they will be addressing these problems next year. THAT is my beef with them. If your performance was lacking one year, try your best to do better next time. Not only are they not giving the public the impression that they have their act together, but some of THEIR OWN PEOPLE are saying they're still badly organised. What am I supposed to think then?
