Island People's registration begins ...

Some photos from Stone Street this afternoon at 4:30 pm:

Today is the "official" registration date for Island People and it looked much different from when I popped in on Saturday as is to be expected, since Saturday was for past masqueraders only. I heard that later on that the crowd increased and the doors were not open promptly at 5pm which caused some anxiety. Hopefully all those hoping to register will get into their sections of choice.

On another note Sonia Mack was open for registration all day today, her mas camp is located at her store on Delhi Street in St. James and when I popped in to take a look I was informed that all her front line sections are sold out. She still has three other versions of the costumes available , one is the fabric option (no backpack) for $2895.00 and the one with the semi circular feathered headpiece is also the same price. The other option is the same costume as the one with the semi circular headpiece but minus the feathers, that one is $2595.00. It has to be said that she is giving preference to her past masqueraders before opening registration to new persons.

well i thought it was obvious that the prices will be up in the mas camp! everyone would agree that it is unethical for them to register ppl in sections that they have not posted the prices for. i dont think they are mad people. its just that they should have a little more respect for the anxious and faithful masqueraders. but i really dont think it have ppl registering in a section that they dont know the final price for.

i tired hear allyuh run yuh mout. give it a rest nah. oh gosh. it is just like long time when we didnt have this website thing. people used to go in the mas camp and see the costumes and the prices for the first time and either register one time or come back and register. IP not any different.

What is the big deal. get a life caisoqueen !!!!!

"it is just like long time when we didnt have this website thing. people used to go in the mas camp and see the costumes and the prices for the first time and either register one time or come back and register. IP not any different"

Dis is not LONG time...we are in 2006!!!!!!! The age of high speed technology! I'm know that there are many people who don't have the luxury of sitting behind a computer and registering. But still, if Harts, Pulse 8, Tribe and others could get their website up and running with PRICES POSTED...IP have no blasted excuse!

So, ANON...come out ah de dark ages and get wid de flickin program!

Yes Long time we used to do that but iz 2006 for crying out loud...we have internet now so they should get with the times.

And yes it is obvious that the prices are posted in the mas camp but what happened to us foreigners, we eh ppl too? I think that's what caiso was talking about...ppl abroad wanting to register but not knowing the price before registration began and even now, it's not posted on their site. They need to get their act together..They start registration and still doh have their site up...

I agree with caiso queen, I am here living in fricking england, how I will know how much the prices of the costumes are eh??? I could play with Tribe fine, their costumes ok etc, but the Island People costumes did look really really pretty, and I was waiting, waiting, waiting, and STILL bloody WAITING on the prices... I kinda more or less going to go with Tribe now, mostly because i don't have a clue as to what going on with IP I can't make a choice with no price?? the costumes nice, but they not that nice that I will go blind into the registration. steuppseee. so shut it ANONYMOUS!!

I can't exactly wait until I come out in February to do the registration thing...bit too late. and things don't go like longtime no more as bands getting sold out so quickly. so if people want to play with top band, they check it out early o'clock! cause all the top bands sell out before xmas I sure!
I knew from since last year its was Tribe or IP for me....and seeing as I have to make up my mind before saturday, it looking like Tribe..only caue IP still stalling. I only know the little bit I know from what Blogqueen saucy trini have to say about stuff. so Thank you for that.

De breeze still blowing on the website is frustrating so Caiso I with you girl..why put a website up anyway if they can't get their act together to mirror what everyone else is doing. People living abroad have as much right as the locals who can go visit the camps, see the costumes and know what they want based on price. IP completely chose to alienate foreigners who 1)played with them before 2)want to play again with them and perhaps this time spread the word so that many more would flock. Imagine I have a crew of family of friends interested in playing and the best I can show them as a preview to what they shelling out $500US for is some blurry launch pics. To add insult to injury I had to tell them that IP want ALL the money pronto,,no downpayment. Imagine our predicament, imagine my embarrasment. IP left a real sour taste in my mouth for 2K6 and its sadly happening again. STRESS!! because unlike all those who can leisurely stroll up to the mascamp my crew and I already have plane tickets bought, relying on the info posted to a site or hearsay from others and still don't know what we doing come Carnival Mon and Tues. Although I visit the blog, its not by choice,,but its only source of info sometimes, thats how i found out the prices. I have called the mascamp over and over,,was told when i finally got through that they have no info or the person who could give answers not here blah blah blah,,i called again and was finally told the site will be up soon. Plan B is my local contact go register the 9 costumes we need, you could imagine how that will go,,,Hats off to TRIBE, i have a special place in my heart for IP cause 2K6 turned out great after all the drama,,but now i not so sure,,,

Anon..I sympathize with you, I can feel the frustation from your blog. It's really a shame eh. IP's costumes are STUNNING...ah mean, GORGEOUS!!! But their follow through sucks. I hope you get thru and that you enjoy yuhself in de mas.

The influx of revenue that foreigners bring to Trinidad for Carnival cannot be debated. Ask the corn soup and doubles vendors, ask the hotel and guest house establishments, ask the rental car agencies, ask the roti lady in St James how much roti we buy from her in 2K6, she know me by name now and i going back to look for her in 2K7,,so yes let us run our mouth and complain. IP pretty much treat us like sh*t. Granted i have choices, its somewhat limited TRIBE with their TLC and who knows what the other band will give me for my money if we try them out. Island People need to change the name of their band to "foreigners not welcome" ,,their only saving grace is that I was told they set aside costumes for online registration but we still have to fork over all of it at once. Heaven forbid something happen to one of us from now till Feb.

Anon ,,if you dont want to hear us run our mouth,,stay off de damn blog and U get a life!

Well yes, I half killing mehself in my office. The audacity of some people to come on someone elses blog and tell people off for MAKING SENSE!!!

STEUPS! I will repeat AGAIN, Island People is a HOT GHETTO MESS!! I don't care if the costumes gorgeous, they treating masqueraders like they begging them for a costume. And by the way, long ago costumes were also $200 not $3000+. My mother and grandmother use to play with Wayne Berkley (not his godmother, so spelling errors excused) and Edmund Hart etc. and they could go every year into the mas camp without knowing prices because THEY WERE RELIABLE!! They didn't make a claim and then not deliver. Is how long that site saying launching soon??!! And didn't they say the site would launch yesterday? And what about Int'l people??! I mean come on now, let's be real about this.

People there is a Monsoon in the Sahara, don't expect heat and sandstorms anytime soon.

Very disappointing.

And anon 9:36am, this is not the place for personal attacks....you don't know Caisoqueen from whence she came....THANK YOU!!

I adding my two cents... IT IS BLASTED frustrating to check a website everyday and not only is it not a valid source of info, it is also very annoying. I had plans on playing with IP next year - on the strength of the costumes only. But not again. Their nasty attitude before registration is being shown even now! I'm still getting negative reports. And I too live in England and am flabbergasted that they expect em to pay FULL price for a costume I haven't seen official phoots of with no overseas registration. They're acting like they're doing you a favour.

well Caisoqueen, we cannot very well have some random thinking its ok to come on Saucy blog to buff people he/she don't know.

We ain't havin' that! LOL
