I have come to the realisation that alot of Mas Virgins have found their way to this blog, either by google, an email or word of mouth and they are somewhat lost among the seasoned masqueraders. There was the one person who enquired what was a "back pack", someone wanted to know the difference between frontline and backline and another wanted make up tips.
Normally I would write my own"Carnival Virgin Tips" but after Dolli's make up lesson yesterday I think it would be cool if other veterans submit their tips as well and then I can compile them all into a "Virgin Survivor Handbook", or something like that, and create a post or newsletter in the near future.
With that said I will appreciate it if all the Mas Jumbies out there email me with their secrets, tips, advice etc. that they are willing to share with the newbies who will be playing mas for the first time come 2007 (though I suspect others will find the tips useful as well).
Looking forward to hearing from you:

K
Cutting de toe in yuh stockings. I personally doh wear stockings but that imporatnt - or else yuh coo coo cook!
Christ! IMPORTANT. Anyway, good eyeshadow tip - put on creme shadow as a base and then your regular powder shadow. The creme shadow tends to crease and the powder flakes off eventually but with the power of the two combined - YUH ON!
Looking 4ward 2 it, I busted up so hard over the 10 commandments!
Been doing Caribana for 6 yrs, & just did NY Carnival, but I'm FINALLY doing the real Trini deal in Feb!!!!!:)!!!!!!
Put some of your face powder on your lips first. Lien with pencil. Then put on lip stick. That photo of me is after bout 6 beer and a plate ah pelau and a hops. And de lipstick STILL ON!
Hottie Dahlin, you don't think it would be easier to compile all your tips, email them to me and let me put it in meh survival guide? Thanks babes :D
Sorry dahling. is tief email i sending here. will try and organise yuh weekend.
OH GOD BUT I KYAH WAIT TO REACH IN MACHEL FETE AND HEAR THE OPENING OF "Powder Puff". Where meh powder posse!? PUFF! Lemme see yuh hands in the air! TOO MUCH SMOKE, TOO MUCH SMOKE! SOMETHING BURNING IN THE AIR!
My initial tip ,,and i will compile others and email to Sauce as well,,,Dont play cutesie cute and let dem Koreans sand down under your foot when u go for your pre TRINI carnival pedicure,,you need the rough padding under your foot for those two days on the road,,you will be balling for murder with pain if you go with your tender newly scraped heels. By the way sauce,,I am all smiles today,,I AM FINALLY IN TRIBE FOR 2K7!!! i coming to look for you. I dont want to bash anybody eh but IP could keep they madness and the small panty and armband they give me in meh box the last time!!!
THanks for the tip Nick, and what section are you with for Tribe?
YES Nicki! That is true. Start to walk on gravel and macadam from 2, 3 weeks before tuh crack up yuh heel lil bit b4. And DOH play no hero and play yuh putting on toe nail extension tuh play mas eh!
i am still waiting to get in with Tribe :{
fiesty tomnorrow you will get in for sure!
i hope so but there are no guarantees.. I am hoping for Jamette (Corsett) or fireman
but fiesty I think Jamette corsette sold out :S
Fireman still available though (with back back)
My inital comment, and I too will combine something for y'all later, is this:
If yuh loss your peeps, keep moving with the band, you'll find them eventually, or they'll find you. You wasting good wining time walking to and fro in the band looking for them.
Yeah Fiesty, yuh bound to get in TRIBE, in a good section too. I say go for Fireman....it sweet!
you guys giving me hope i will have my laptop as my backpack tomorrow waiting for that registration to commence. Will let you guys know what happens. Thanks
Sauce gyal doh geh mad at meh, but meh one favourite tip is to soak your feet in Epson Salts & hot/very warm water monday evening when you get home. your feet will feel like brand new come Tuesday to go the whole day.
Looks like i might be in dire help from hottie, prettydolli and saucy. you gyals run tings yes- - -lol
I for one will definitely be in need of that Survivor Tips cause this will be the 2nd time for me. the last time i played mas was in 1998.
Hope allyuh have a fantastically WICKED weekend. Happy TGIF all
Good luck fiesty!Wasp I using your tip, thanks!

anyways lemme go back to wok to pay for meh fireman costume. have a good evening ladies. if i think of any more tips ah go leh yuh know saucy gyal.
If possible, get your mass shoe a 1/2 size bigger and put these insoles in them. They are Dr. Scholl's for her comfort insoles and they are soooo comfy and cushiony. ladies with stillettos swear by them so imagine wearing them with mas shoes/boots.

Carnival Tip-If you must play Jouvert (Jouvay) aka pre dawn madness..make sure and put plenty baby oil on your skin prior to gettin all the mud and oil on your body. It makes it easier to clean off in time to play your Monday Mas. It also helps if you find your nearest firehydrant lol especially if you have white carpet in yuh livin room!
Water and Gatorade are your friends on the road stay hydrated especially when drinking the rum and coconut water :-D
Carnival Tip #2 Make fren wid de people on de DJ Trucks...TRUST ME on dat one...when yuh tired and cannot make it to the back of TRIBE to get to the "Mobile Rest Units" it cool just to hop on a truck and enjoy de lime...yuh gettin the best of both worlds...yuh could still play yuh mas..and take ah lil breather at the same time. Plus when yuh ontop dat truck is really all eyes on you (if you go for that kind of attention)
DeRedTing..
Make fren wid de people on de DJ Trucks. Plus when yuh ontop dat truck is really all eyes on you (if you go for that kind of attention)
Like yuh already got a sneak peek at meh manual...Gyul yuh done know! ;)
Prettidolli..
