Getting a date or possible date for when Island People's registration begins is like trying to find out when the cultural center will start building....so may answers circulating, none the right one!
So, last week I heard registration will begin today or tomorrow though this information was not confirmed. Island People had a nice voice recording saying to call on Saturday 9th to get further information on registration and costume viewing, since then I have been calling and at first I kept getting the same voice recording, now I am getting "mail box is full". No one has yet to answer the phone at the mas camp, though when I passed there at lunchtime I saw several people in the yard, including one of the section leaders, so I know that people are there.
On my way back to the office I get a call saying registration is TODAY..w.t.f! So knowing that has to be impossible I tried to get more information and was told registration is this coming weekend (same time as TRIBE) which leaves me even more confused because this morning I heard it was next Monday!
I am appealing to Island People, please, put out something FORMAL addressing all these rumours of when the registration will begin. Send a little email to your masquerders or even put up an announcement on your website at least. I am so glad my friend is returning from New York on Wednesday since both she and I were expecting that registration would have started while she was out of the country and she left me in charge of getting it done for her and her friends. I believe that since I am not even playing with Island People it is about time I pass over this stress to the people who are. Let me mumble and grumble about the delay with TRIBE at least there is communication coming from their mas camp ever so often!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. We are in the era of instant communication... an email blast, a tiny thing like a chage to a voice-mail, even a radio announcement if that's the style. Something IP, something, anything is needed to quell the rumours goiing around and get information to your masqueraders and interested parties about registration and camp opening hours.
p/s:- I very much love TRIBE's info blasts, very very informative... now they just have to work on the timing :-)
Here's my take on things. People need to stop spreading the rumors about all of these bands. I am tired of seeing "I get this info from a very reliable source"! Why can't we all wait until official information is posted or sent out from these people, then start to worry up ourselves when they dont stick to the timelines they have published!
Saucy its me again what is this i read that BWIA is shutting its doors. Are you covering news as well as carnival stuff :}
Girl i still waiting for my BWIA refund, i hope i can still get it.
I don't think people are spreading rumors, because to tell you the truth all the people I have spoken to are 1.Primarily involved with Island People Mas. 2. Bringing a section for Island People mas and they are not too sure themselves of what is going on! So it's not like I am hearing it from the fella who sweeping the yard,it's coming from the moths of the people who are bringing the band themselves!
Fiesty, yes BWIA is no more! A new airline is slated to fill the spot called Caribbean Airline. I don't know what is going on with your refund, you might have to send them an email!
caisoqueen....i had one person replying to me...."who cares about organization/customer service when it comes to mas...when you come back from trinidad you don't want to talk about that...you want to remember your time on the road"
oh hell yes organization counts....ahmmm like can i get my headgear and bra in the box....or do i have to go around town with all my tot tots outside....
organization is an important thing when it comes to bringing out a band, but i think some people do harp on the unimportant details.
all i ask is that you have my costume in full and in a timely manner and dont mess with my money. any "customer service" after that is kinda whatever to me, because i dont plan to spend the whole of carnival in a mas maker face. i want my interaction with them on a minimum.
and these ppl goin on an on about " my band has a snow cone maker" "i like my band cause they gave me a camera in my goody bag". that is what is funny to me. all i ask is that the band give me a bad ass costume, some men, a never ending stream of alcohol, and some sweet soca. thats it!

" my band has a snow cone maker"
Hmph....If something as minimal as that is really of significance to some folks, I can provide de hookup....Prettidolli Discount Productions will supply sno-cones for a nominal fee courtesy of her retired Snoopy Sno Cone machine. Ah go have one ah de fellahs carry it in he TRIBE backpack along with several packages of Kool-Aid. Feel free to embellish your cone with liquor from de mobile bars dem. I does rhellll scoff at some of the constant, unrelenting pennynicklequarteranddimeness nitpicking of some masqueraders and their bands. It's like: "Our band has standard bearers, your band doesn't." Steups.
And for my next Carnival Service for your Convenience:
Rent a Carnival Manpurse....For those ladies who wish to walk and jump with their NARS, Prescriptives, and M.A.C....Rent ah man to hold it all for yuh in he nice, roomy backpack!
Watch out one or two marnin' eh!
Hi Saucy...How yuh deh gyul?
If people are saying customer service doesn't matter they are lying to themselves. The first person we see before we even put our feet on the ground to play mas is the mas band crew. Those people who are supposed to give you your costume, intact, in a timely fashion. I shouldn't have to wait 4 hours for my costume or be sent back and forth from the mas camp to home in the hopes of picking up my costume sometime that day.
How people rather settle for that poor level of service is beyond me. Customer service should be tight from the launch to the final minutes Carnival Tuesday. Yes, I said Carnival Tuesday because your drinks, pee truck and other stuff is a part of the service you paid for! :-) Sure there will be some minor hiccups but those minor hiccups should no where affect your experience.
I had to comment....sorry.
Gripin bout customer service??!! Customer service is a MUST!! And let me be specific here. It is absolute bollucks that IP not communicating. It is extremely unfair for people who are out of the country or have circumstances that put them at a disadvantage for registration. Some people have to get money together, make arrangement etc. ect. And I saying that and 1) i not playing with IP and 2) i live right her in TriniTrini. But you have to treat your people like people. It is out of this world to think that the only thing you're expected to provide is a nice costume, hot men and alcohol. So people must get a suprise registration starts in an hour email??!! Look, you see this slave mentality my people (not just referring to persons of my hue) settle for, CUT IT OUT!! Unless the thousands you putting out don't mean much to you, you should demand excellence. A few kinks and setbacks are expected. Life throws us curve balls after all. But communication AIN'T HARD!! Especially in 2006.
Digicel say Expect More, Get More....I say Expect More, Demand More, Get More.
I don't know why we surprised anyways IP notorious for this foolishness. I have one word: Insomnia.........need i say more.
you people are unbelieveable with your customer service foolishness! Is this what Trinidad's culture have come too...Customer Service?! Because if Tribe, IP or any of the bands out there was giving allyuh shite costumes that had no expression of Trinidadian culture, etc, you would continue to play mas because of some damn experience!!!??? Boy I rhel shame to be a Trini! Mas men like Saldenah, Bailey, Berkeley and Cito Velasquez (RIP) must be rolling in their graves.
I 100% agree opeationlosedatgut. I want an overall great Carnival experience starting with the communication regarding registration, f/u until the time costumes are to be collected, courtesy when collecting the costumes, correct information regarding meeting on Carnival monday and tuesday, etc., i.e, If u say you going to have a toilet, have one, give the masquaraders what they are paying for and no 1/2 stepppin. When and if there is a problem come clean explain, dont treat me like i am a stupidy and i have no sense. Thats why i am trying different bands to see who really has it together from the beginning to the end. We masquaraders are at their mercy and they know this all these issues.
God bless Tribe for not putting us through them nightmare scenes!!
At least they are professional enough to inform their masqueraders what's going on. IP does want u to beg for info - like u have to beg them to take your $ for a costume LOL. But if some people are used to shitty treatment that is what they expect & they eat up w/ a spoon!
AND YUH DAMNNNNNNNNNNNN RIGHT:
Unless the thousands you putting out don't mean much to you, you should demand excellence. Expect More, Demand More, Get More.
L-O-Frrrreakin-L @:
So people must get a suprise registration starts in an hour email??!! Look, you see this slave mentality my people (not just referring to persons of my hue) settle for, CUT IT OUT!!
oh please anon - Tribe trying to give people a taste of the culture w/ their theme for 2k7 and they get criticized for not being "pretty" enough and not using enough beads/feathers. Why should ANYONE in TNT settle for shitty service for something we paying big bucks for? They BETTER treat me like royalty for the prices they charging! And Tribe does just that.
anonymous thats what people say wrong with people from the Caribbean they think they beyond everyone else, customer service is respect that you have for someone else that is partaking in your establishment. We should not have to ask for that, that should be given, a must.
Anon...all those masters you are referring to. They had thier version of customer service back in the days. I'm sure Saldenah, Velasquez (RIP) and others treated thier masqueraders with the utmost respect and did not give them a run around when it came to mas. They may not have spoiled them rotten like what Tribe is doing and what Pulse 8 is proposing to do but I'm pretty sure they did not leave people dangling for simple info. Customer service is not just renting a park, or pee trucks but it all boils down to R-E-S-P-E-C-T. and I'm sure those names you want to throw at us treated thier masqueraders with the utmost respect. Respect shows in how you treat people...from the simple to the elaborate in "customer service" that respect shows.
Yea seriously anon...you sound a little ignorant to say 'is this what mas has come to' It has nothing to do with mas, its common courtesy..they want to take ppl money but not offer them something as little as a posting on their site? come on now..ppl arent asking for much and it really bothers me that you would be blasting ppl on here for demanding only best service..after all, I doh know about u but I doh have a money tree in the back of my yard. I work hard and when I paying for something, I expect to get my money's worth and to be treated with respect. If you go into a store and the sales clerk completely ignore you, not offering any help..would you stay there and support them, buying their merchandise and say 'iz trini culture to be rude so i will accept it'so why accept it from anyone else?
I think Anon working for IP cause I dont know anyone in their right mind that would be against wanting to be treated with courtesy..All it takes is a post to their site, letting their masqueraders know that registration will begin in 2-3 weeks and I have sent IP several emails and have not received one response. Yes Im sure they're innudated but they probably will not have so many ppl emailing them if they would just let us know what is going on. Don't even talk about their phone...not one live person has picked up. Not a good start for them, especially with all the talk about them not giving ppl their costume this year...they need to make a better effort..just proves that pretty costumes alone doesnt make a band and FYI, we were seriously considering switching this year to IP and there were approx 20 of us from Florida but with all this, I think we will stick to the more professional band with the ok costumes, even though I think the prices have gone up way too much for no reason.
you peeople just don't get it. Is that all it comes down to for you guys, Tribe vs IP? What's so funny is the fact that these mas bands have allyuh head tie up right now and you don't even know the games they are playing. I hope allyuh know it's not about the masquerader and culture! Everything that is taking place right now is all about competition and trying to one up each. Hmmm..I wonder why Tribe keeps delaying registration and IP keeping mum about theirs?......lol!
I don't think TRIBE is trying to one up Island People, from what I have seen it seems they are quite secure in their place on the Carnival market and if is anything Island People are patterning (or trying to) themselves after TRIBE. With no Poison this year no band out there is worrying about NOT selling out for 2k7 Carnival.
I know why TRIBE has delayed registration, remeber we got an email saying they were issuing TLC cards to 2005 masquerders hence the delay? Well my friend was one of those who got her TLC last week, so yeah registration had to be delayed to accomodate those people.
And I am sure they pushed it back again to faciitate the viewing of the 2 new frontlines.
It has nothing to do with TRIBE vs Island People to me cause frankly there is no competion.
Well, anon! Is this the moment when we're supposed to contemplate the various carnival conspiracy theories? Of course, there is competition. Many of the bands being discussed here are, quite frankly, targeting the same demographic. They all want to make a profit ... they all want bragging rights! WE KNOW THAT! As much as we hope that all the bands are promoting our culture, we are not naive (or most of us aren't) about the fact that these people are also running a business! Are they using certain tactics to accomplish some type of "one upmanish?" Who knows?! Maybe ... maybe not! If there is something that we masqueraders should know, why not bring it out into the open, rather than hinting?! The point that you are ignoring, however, which 99% of comments here indicate is if ANY band is requesting $x for a package that it has marketed, then the least that band can do is provide the PACKAGE. That shows courtesy, respect and appreciation to your customer, and is good business for you! It keeps your customer coming back ... and s/he will bring more people!
Additionally, it makes good business sense to keep your customer INFORMED in a timely manner. Nothing makes any entity lose business faster than (a) when a customer does not feel appreciated; (b) when that business does not keep its customer informed; and (c) when there is the APPEARANCE that your competitor is doing (a) and (b) better than you!
Every single masquerader has his or her own priorities regarding what they consider to be as close to the perfect Carnival experience as possible. If customer service, as a part of an overall carnival package, isn't a priority for you, that's all well and good. However, just because it isn't important to you doesn't mean that it isn't important at all.
One more thing I forgot to mention. When last I checked, promoting T&T mas/culture and running a successful business do not have to be mutually exclusive.
"Prettidolli Discount Productions will supply sno-cones for a nominal fee courtesy of her retired Snoopy Sno Cone machine. Ah go have one ah de fellahs carry it in he TRIBE backpack along with several packages of Kool-Aid. "
Prettidolli, you had one a dem too!??! Dat was one ah my flavorite toys!
I can’t believe we are actually having a discussion as to whether or not customer service is important. How hard do YOU have to work to make $3,000? That is money you could easily be spending on something else so yeah, they have to earn it.
PREACH people PREACH it!
Anon, I can't believe I'm reading that 99% of the people talking about CUSTOMER SERVICE and you are not seeing that. Forget Tribe and IP for a moment... if ANY band, shop, restaurant, college, any entity taking your hard earned money treat you like crap you going to defend them??? Still support them??? Hand over your hard earned money without saying a word????? come on already! You are so stuck on the band vs band crap you fail to realize everyone else has moved past that.
As long money exchanges hands CUSTOMER SERVICE IS INVOLVED AND IS IMPORTANT. Simple!
Prettidolli, you had one a dem too!??! Dat was one ah my flavorite toys!
Yah,Hottie meh poor teeth, lips, and tongue used 2 b red wid de syrup! For 2k7 I'm introducing some new flavors:
Timely TRIBE Tangerine
IslandPeople Have No Passionfruit
Pulse8 Pearly Made It
Legacy Lychee
and bringing up de rear will be....
Genesis Ghetto Mellow-Yellow (has hints of Alize)
Steupssss..............
hottie hottie and prettiolli I had a snoopy no cone machne too! LOL. I kept mine until I was an adult, when one of my "friends" was having a party for her daughter I loaned it to her and the bitch never gave it back !!!!! That was a good few years ago and I going and call her NOW amd ask her where meh blasted sno cone machine.
DEMAND IT BACCCCCCCCCCK from de wretch oui! Dat was de ting self!
Then yuh could join meh on de road wid meh operations dem. If yuh help meh mek enuf cones ah go give yuh a complimentary Carnival Manpurse....Nevah mind yuh hubby. If yuh rhel enterprising yuh could always rent out back de Manpurse for a tidy profit.
And I'm not just sticking tuh Kool-Aid gurl, I'm taking it upscale:
TANG and Grey Goose Gelatin Shots!
Leh people keep up this band vs band business...I putting de motion in meh commerce ocean set tuh talk nuff shyte in hey eh? Streets is watching....Dolli out.
