Creative Monday Wear

When I took a peek at Island People's online registration page I saw that they are offering a complimentary pair of boy shorts for Monday wear. Going by what was offered this year I am guessing their masqueraders are going to get some sort of top, boy shorts and headband to wear for Monday. That is such a cool idea, see I have no problem with people not wearing full costume on Monday but I still think the band should look somewhat uniformed and providing Monday wear achieves that.

I know Brian Mc Farlane also gives Monday wear, and I am hoping TRIBE gives us a nice little baby T/T-Shirt and a sailor hat so we can be a band of sailors on Monday (pssst allyuh hear meh TRIBE!) But for those who don't get Monday wear I went searching through the archives on triniscene.com looking for creative ways to "hook up" a costume for Monday. I think these folks did a good job! TRIBE in Poison- 2004 I am loving their spin on the Indian Costume for Monday, they made their own outfits! More Poison 2004 Island People 2006 Sequin Shorts like what is sold at Diva's Closet: Ms. Thang went creative on the top Island People provided for Monday wear: Poison 2006 TRIBE 2006 Check the girl on the left! If it is one thing I have come to realize as I searched the Carnival Monday photos is that more people than I thought did wear a lot of their costume on Monday. Probably since I have never worn any part of my costume on Monday in recent times that I never noticed or paid attention to the fact that many people do wear theirs!

Quite a few women in most bands wore both the belt and bra while others wore the bra alone. It took lots of searching through those photos to find people who were NOT in some part of their costume, even with Island People who provided Monday wear I saw several photos of girls wearing their costume. And it seemed like almost everyone in Tribe came out in everything except their headpiece on Monday! Tribe 2006 Monday Poison 2006 Monday Island People 2006 Monday

I am usually a belt and bra person on carnival monday, unless given monday wear. My take on it is that i paid thousands of dollars to play mas, why not wear the custume twice???.

When i get home, I basically clean and deodourize the custume and get geared up for Tuesday when I put on the rest of the custume.

TRIBE!!!!!! we want some Monday wear!!!!

I with kevian on that. I never understood why people don't want to wear the costume on both days, Fine if you don't want to go all out, but after all that money and fuss, carnival is JUST 2 days, make the most of the expensive costume thanks. I too will be in bra and belt, like I have done before

What I saw in AngelFish this year convinced me I have the right idea about not wearing any part of my costume on Monday. The costume involved a lot of cloth and many people wore their top on Monday (not me of course). On Tuesday those same people (and I made a mental note) were looking totally off. After sweating in the top the day before the fabric for the top and the one for the bottom looked totally different. It was actually kinda gross to tell the truth.
Another reason is that my first year playing (2005) I wore the bra on Monday and lost a lot of my beads, so Tuesday everything wasn't pristine. I just like to look totally fresh and together on Tuesday.

It would help a lot if TRIBE provided us with some Monday wear a nice tank top would be great! (HINT HINT!!!)

That faded custume thing happened to me in 2k5 but it never bothered me nah!.. is wine and more wine. Plus i never jus wear the bra alone, I always wear the bra and the belt, so the colour difference is usually only seen in the foot, hand and head pieces.

But I understand u warrior maybe i should comply and then complain. I might try not wearing my custume on monday in 2k7.

PS:TRIBE WE WANT SOME MONDAY WEAR>>> TY.
The nice little tube tops saying tribe would be nice.

I too have NEVER worn any part of my costume on Mon. I am just not willing to take the risk of it NOT being in perfect condition for Tues. I do not play social on the road so I KNOW I would destroy the costume on Mon!!!! I'm sure I would have missing beads, sweat stains & alcohol stains!!! For those of you that wear the costume on Monday - how on earth do you clean/deodorize it for Tues?????

YES PLEASE!,,some Monday wear TRIBE will be real nice! Nothing fancy, some hot shorts and a tank. You can promote the ole time mas theme by making us all dressed down fancy sailors on Monday! So a little sailor hat too??

amprincess I too wonder how do you clean your costume after Monday? I guess you can get that at home dry cleaning kit!

I like what the couple in the second pic did, that Indian outfit they hooked up looks simple AND cute!

there is a group of abut 10 of us that go home for carnival every year, and we always decide on monday wear that we all feel comfortable with and so that we match. It is a great way to always find someone if u end up lost and it jus looks hot for everyone to wear the same thing.

Ha! I now realise my cousin is on one of those pics lol! For me, the things about wearing the costume both days is that you sweat up in it all day (worse yet if it rains) then it may get dirty from people throwing drinks on you and when you want to lie down in the park for lunch. It is a difficult thing to clean (and dry) to be ready for the next day. Long time I used to rinse out everything, but I stop wasting my time.
My first costume was a hot light blue number from Poison. My carnival jumbie parents always taught me not to wear the whole costume on Monday. That Carnival it real rain and by the next day the bikini was silver! Some costumes actually run on your skin/tights.
With Angel Fish this year I was smart, I did not wear my costume Monday cause I know that Tie dye would have run.
You could imagine if you put on your Fancy Sailor costume Monday and a drunk man come and wet you down with a Guiness or a Sorrel Shandy??!! Oh hells no. That is fight there

I am one of those people who absolutely HAS to wear part of the costume on Monday. I spend way too much money on my costume to just trot that sucker out for one day of the year.

Damage wise, I've never had a big problem with wearing my bra and belt on Monday. At the very worst, I've lost a couple of beads here and there, but nothing noticeable.

I also consider Monday to be the test-drive for the costume, so that if anything doesn't quite fit right, or is causing any discomfort, I can fix it Monday night. For instance, bra straps that seem sturdy and secure while dry can stretch out tremendously when they get wet. You DON'T want to learn this lesson early Tuesday morning.

"You could imagine if you put on your Fancy Sailor costume Monday and a drunk man come and wet you down with a Guiness or a Sorrel Shandy??!!"

But that same thing could happen Tuesday morning before you even cross the stage! I would be even more vex knowing that I 'saved' my costume only to have it ruined before I even have a chance to show it off.

Oh, that reminds me:
Carnival tip - if you're very concerned about colours running when they get wet, I recommend spraying feathers and fabric (carefully) with a couple of coats of ScotchGuard spray. Do a test patch first to make sure it won't damage the material, and try to use sparingly, because it may cause irritation to sensitive skin. I've found that it works wonders on feathers. If you can't get your hands on ScotchGuard, I've also had success with waterproofing spray made for leather and suede shoes.

But squeezle! What you saying about "you don't want learn this lesson Tuesday Morning"!! My costume does get a FULL test drive before Monday lolol. I don't know about you guys but I will be in full kit and doing the test wine. Thats so you see how everything looks when you on the move. And that bra definitely gets a good wear for that reason. I must say though with experience you know what to look for when it comes to costume defects.I make alterations before anything even goes wrong.I take premptive action!

Hey diva, I does give it a good test drive at home too!!! And I always make sure to do any needed alterations and re-inforcements before-hand. In fact, part of my 'vital supplies kit' when I come to Trinidad is a hot-glue gun, a stapler and a full set of sewing essentials (real old-school).

But sometimes, only a test under road conditions will do. lol

I'm leaning towards wearing it both days, that's what I always intended, bc I wanna get all I can outta the $$$expensive$$$ costume!! I picked one this time that doesn't have bead work & isn't delicate, to get easily damaged, & it won't colour run, so I won't have those things to worry about... I always wash & wear my Caribana costume for Hamilton carnival, but it's 1 week later... (this year, I wore it 3x {to NY carnival})
So Trini gyrls, it won't dry overnight??

of course it does dry!! but the bra was real sweaty monday evening when i took it off. Fuh me - Carnival monday is so easy...no big excitement..and I think thats why i sweat so much - cuz i just dancing up a storm...u see come tuesday - u have de headpiece (which might fall off) OR you have ppl trying to juk out u eye wid dere headpiece...and then i was soo HUNGOVER from monday - the 7am start was HARD...

I liking that sequin gold bottom wid di gold top...
