The thing is though that many relationships and friendships do not weather Carnival, because the thinking is why bring sand to the beach?! With a plethora of beautiful men and women invading our shores for Carnival, some people are greedy, wanting to eat their cake and have it too. What do I mean you say? Well, let me explain it this way, many couples break up for Carnival only to reconcile on Ash Wednesday and long standing friendships sometimes come to an end after Carnival for the following reasons:
- Either male or female wants to party without their significant other, which leads to accusations of ulterior motives for not wanting significant other at said party. This can also extend itself to J'ouvert and even playing mas. Big arguments occur over someone wanting to go on a boys lime or girls lime for Carnival. Worse yet you telling your boyfriend or girlfriend or husband or wife you DO NOT want them to play mas with you, that is serious thing!
- Hostility and pressure from friends who don't want the significant other in tow for any Carnival related activity. See, when one person out of the crew brings along their boyfriend or girlfriend that cramps the style of the rest of the crew. They don't want that significant other to see them in their slackness i.e. wining on anyone willing and able or liming with the "outside friend" because significant other will report on their behaviour to THEIR significant others. Get the picture. So sometimes the choice comes down to friends or significant other. If you choose friends, well you in the dog house for sure! And if you choose significant other friends does be just as vex! Before I got married hubby jumped up on the road with me on Carnival Tuesday and my girl friend was quite annoyed, asking me if he was staying with us "all day". The next year she made sure she had her cousin play mas with us, so that when me and hubby chipping down the road she would not feel like the third wheel.
- You are forbidden to play mas. Yes, it happens, imagine in this day and age when you are paying for your costume yourself, your partner is telling you they don't like the idea of you playing mas! Well, I don't have to tell you how many relationships are ended on that level of jealousy and insecurity. Some of them even want an input on exactly what costume you can and cannot wear and even how much it should cost! And you know these raging lunatics sometimes go so far as to hunt you down on Carnival Tuesday, if you decide to go ahead and play against their wishes, looking to embarrass you by dragging you out of the band! I have never witnessed this personally, but my mother told me stories of this happening back in the day.
- Caught on camera! This happened to a friend of mine, her boyfriend was happy to "send her off" to play mas, while he sat at home and watched the parade on T.V. Well, Ms. Lady pick up a fella in the band and forget that there are cameras ON STAGE and there is her boyfriend sitting at home and seeing her crossing stage with a man putting waist on her from behind! Enough sparks flew in that house when she got home later that night, which is the worse time to try and defend yourself being drunk and tired. That was the end of THAT relationship. With all those party photographers like IslandEvents, Triniscene and Carnivalscene you have to be careful not to be caught doing something you should not be doing with someone you are not supposed to be with! If you horning, stay far from the cameras.
- The outside man/woman gets jealous. One of the hardships of being the "other man or woman" is that you don't get to be with the person you love when you want to, seeing as they are already involved with someone else! So chances are you end up spending Christmas and New Year's Eve alone, and in Trinidad that can also mean you are alone for Carnival too. You know some couples only go out together for Carnival. They hit the tents, all-inclusive parties, even play mas together, leaving the outside woman/man on the outside! If you all think Saucy don't know what she talking about, think again!Me and hubby gone Blue Range all-inclusive where we bounce up a friend and his wife. Now, I don't ever see that friend with his wife and was quite surprised to see them together for that party knowing full well he was always with his outside woman. Anyways, we gone to get a bake and shark only to bounce up that same friend's outside woman looking blue in the face and asking us if we saw the individual with his wife! Imagine the girl vex, SO vex that she decided to make the guy jealous by liming with another fella all night. Well that drama went on for the rest of the night with me and hubby staying out of every body's way.
- You forget Valentines day! Be prepared, in 2007 Valentines Day is on Bacchanal Wednesday. To me Valentine's is nothing special, I would be quite happy if the hubby just gets me tickets to beach house (hint hint) but other people want the whole nine yards; chocolate, dinner, roses and the undivided attention of their significant other. I know for a fact many women are left fuming when Valentine's Day rolls around close to Carnival and they cannot see or hear from their man. One year Valentines was on Carnival Monday, and all I remember was sleeping off the effects of jouvert and dirty mas in Arima by my girl friend's house when her boyfriend came late in the night with a cheap plastic rose. The cussing woke me up, because he got such a tongue lashing he retreated just as quickly as he came! Imagine he was missing in action all day only to turn up late at night with no excuse and a cheap gift. I don't know how all those couples in love will be navigating Valentines day for 2007, I wish allyuh luck!
- Your partner does not understand our culture. It's one thing to want to bring your non-Trinidadian significant other to Carnival, but before you do please explain to them what they should expect. People who are not used to "our ting" do not expect people to be so overly friendly come Carnival, and next thing you know you are being accused of flirting! Worse yet if you "tief" a wine at a party or on the road for Carnival, are too friendly smearing paint on other bodies during jouvert or you want to lime with friends you have not seen in a while on the road; significant other might feel oh so left out. Think carefully before inviting them home to Carnival with you, especially if it is a jealous, possessive type!
I hope all the relationships out there are strong enough to survive Carnival, do not say you have not been warned on the possibilities that can occur. Trust, understanding and respecting your partner will see you through every temptation that Carnival throws at you. When Carnival is over, you still want to be with that person, so don't do anything that you will regret. For those who are coming from overseas and leaving a significant other behind, make sure you have a very understanding partner and don't do anything when you get to Trinidad that you would be ashamed of them finding out.
And for all those couples playing mas together, wheter in the same section or band, remember Carnival is a time of freedom, don't shadow him/her all day. Give them some space and don't get vex if they take a lil small wine here and there (make sure you impress upon them the limits of that "small" wine though!) and know that at the end of the day they are going home with YOU.
No need for break ups and heart aches during this festive time, if your man/woman leaves you because they "not taking sand to the beach" don't sit at home and mope. Find yourself to the nearest mas camp, buy a costume, hit all the fetes leading up to the big day with your friends and forget that worries, after all it's Carnival!

saucy gyal, i'm with you on this one! me and my hubby playing mas together in the same band, just different sections because we like different costumes. it's all about respect!!
oh, valentine's day falls on bachannal wednesday, not thursday as you wrote so nuff people would be in some real bachannal, but i wouldn't be in that bunch!! lol!!
I was looking at 2008 Calender..LOL. thanks I will edit it!
i see you're thinking ahead! the only reason i could see for why you were looking at the 2008 calendar is because that's the year that you launching your own band! lol!! sign me up!!
I hate when people use that comment "don't bring sand to the beach" - me & hubby ENJOY playin mas together. Choosing the section in Tribe is my job :) Every year he tells me he WANTS to play in the same section as me! So it's my duty to make sure that the male costume in the section I choose is decent & won't embarrass him LOL. If my friends vex that hubby & I play together they can haul it. I am not obligated to anyone but him!
BBBWWWWWWWAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... I would like to see the man who would watch ME and tell me I kyah play mas. I used to go out with a fella - de same one who does make ole noise in Movie Towney - try telling me about vulgarity and ting and how that shows inferior culture. So I ask him when Capleton and dem singing bout pumping up poom poom and when them girl mashing up them same self poom poom jooking on the floor/car hood/12 year old boys for passa passa if that not vulgar, cause he is a hard core Reggae/dancehall man. Allyuh KNOW he didn't last for long!!! I eh want to call no names but allyuh might know who he is. One ah dem who does get tie up and feel dey's Jamaican. Anyway the only person could ban me from anything is meh mother, depending, and SHE eh so mad! I have no problems playing with my man, but if he eh want to play he better understand that he kyah stop meh. And a lil wine will be passing to friends/cute men onthe road. That doh mean I will horn him. And it works vice versa. Unless I ketch yuh - haha!
Saucy it is damm funny that I had this argument about carnival with my boyfriend just last night. That man would cut his wrist if i suggest that we leave Barbados and go to carnival together. We jump in the same band, different sections but he makes his plans with his "boys". Further more the man acts as is he is working for the CIA cause he just aint disclosing any information about carnival weekend. His lame answer about us playing mass together is "why would i want to take away that weekend from him...that is all he gets". so right now he ass cleary in the dog house and it is only October.
bajangirl, so did he at least tell you what section he will be in for Carnival? As for them "boys" them does be real trouble, not saying he or they up to no good eh, but a group of guys together is a "pack" mentailty!I feel eventually he will tell you what his plans are, I mean allyuh bound to bounce up in the same parties and you will see him on the road. So where he staying when he get to Trinidad? And wait nah.....yuh seeing him for Valentines Day ?
Commess in de plaaaaace!
Funny, Saucy, how a few weeks ago you were writing about how some relationships begin/blossom during Carnival Time...and when I was reading that blog I was like...yeah..but ahmmmmmmm...it does have bacchanal too yunno..! lol!
I was WAITING fuh yuh tuh write this article! Just last year Carnival (which I was not present for) I heard about a relationship gone to the dogs because of that saaaamme "pack" mentality, and the girl just get fed up and leave..
Carnival is a wave of emotions, please believe!
"If yuh cyah stand de heat, stay outta de hot sun on Monday and Tuesday nah man!" :D
I see no problem playing mas with your partner. That doesn't mean you need to be joined at the hip whole day. Every so often you take and walk through the band, take some stranger jam, and come back.
And when you come back, and the wife is throwing some waist, yuh can't get vex for that either.... whats good for the goose.
And if you are in a new relationship with a non-trini. Remember, you need to have that conversation BEFORE YOU START TO THROW WAIST.
I love playing mas with my boyfriend... I have my own man to wine on..(smile) we've been doing it every year for the past 4 years! I think it's romantic he tells me I'm the queen of the band!
I overheard about the section he playin with, he acted like he didnt want me to know. the best part is that he and his boys send money to some girl in trinidad to pay down on their costumes....so silly me figured that i could tell him to ask the girl to sign me up as well in IP jewel. de man allow me to know that de girl does only be able to sign up de boys and she aint goin want to sign up no female. so u know my stupid theory was which one of uall she sleeping with. Anyway I had to ask a male friend of mine to sign me up and that shit aint right...what the hell i got he for. he boys aint easy half of dem act upset when he involves me. he and he crew renting a house and girl dont ask me where cause he aint mention that. Saucy he cleary want to do he own thing so i will be doing my own thing with my girls....if i run into he at a party he goin get treat just like all the other men there. he aint come with me but i know that when i pass him in my shorts he gine get cold sweats.
trini in toronto well said!
trinigyal is from experience and other's experience that I write this yes! One b/f I had loved to party for carnival minus me...imagine we both going to the same party but he don't even want to give me a lift! I not even asking him to stick up with me eh, just a ride to/from d party.Well I organise meh ride, and after d party one of my guy friends come to pick up me and my girl friends. We in the car park waiting to leave, and soca blasting so I real dancing up a storm, give meh fren a lil dance ON the driver's side all kinda ting. Not knowing the b/f park up in a car next to me.When I get home, meh phone ring and is he blasting me out in the wee hours ah the morning...that was it yes, we done! He vex how I have no behaviour in the people car park and I vex cause he did not take me to the party. I have more stories to tell eh, but not enough time ..LOL :D
saucy i forgot to answer your question bout valentines day...he probally goin bring cupid to me in person..he gine do the full works cause he know he ass goin be shipping out the next day for trinidad
People say the same thing to me "How you and your man could play in the same section in the same band" and I just don't get them. We have fun liming together, we both give each space when we lime and play mas, and we doing this for years now. No stress. Maybe it just boils down to the kind of relationship you have.
bajangal I could feel yuh vexation! Me eh want to play counselor eh, but it seems is the friends you have to watch out for, like they jealous of allyuh relationship!
bajangal, dump that zero and get with a hero!! too much drama - someting is up with he movements!!
I have played mass in T&T five times now and next year will be first time I will be going with my girlfriend.
To be honest with you I am actually looking forward to bringing her since she has never been to T&T during Carnival and has always wanted to go. I know she is gonna love it.
It is one of my Christmas gifts to her this year so she in know yet that she is an orange Jab Jab.....boy I catch hell trying to sort out sizes and de colour...I was gine go wid de fuschia but a mind tell to ask her and she tell me she prefer the colour orange.
And we in bout de stick on pun each other the whole day ting...yuh cuh dance a lil bit wid somebody else...after all ITS CARNIVAL!!
Of course my Trini compadres were like: Why yuh bringing sand to the beach? But I told them but wunna does do it when wunna does come to Crop Over...lol
Still looking for an inexpensive place to say so if any one has any suggestions that would be great!
saucy we both popular down here so i expect people to be jealous... but he is a grown man what his friends tell thier women is nothing that he should ever attempt to bring to me...he knows i dont play that. he has to learn to balance everything. i dont want him to crowd my space nor do i want to crowd his but he knows trinidad well and rents a vehicle all i want is that he makes sure i am safe and we could at least travel together but de man just aint seeing it.
anon 9.13
i really feeling u...now he can be free to roam and play mass
marcus ....men like you still exist!?! Wow, what a nice Christmas gift!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I noticed you said ONE of her Christmas gifts eh..what yuh plan on doing for the rest? All my husband gave me was my downpayment for my costume..steups !! (yuh hear dat hubby!). P.S. Monique's guesthouse in Maraval has a Carnival package, don't know if they booked up solid as yet and you can also try the Normandie Hotel.
bajangal, doh worry - wen yuh see him in de parties and ting bus' style on he ass, jus' make sure dat yuh lookin' real tight before yuh leave de house - he go geh bazodee wen he see yuh...nuff to geh whiplash in he rass!!
Here is the rate sheet for monique's:
http://www.moniquestrinidad.com/rates.html
It's $900.00 for one week's stay for Carnival, all taxes included.
nothing wrong with playing mas with your significant other....
and if one of my girls is playing mas with she husband (ampy) i doh feel ah how atall.....i find it too cute!b
Well Saucy I can tell you that dis gift gine brek muh but yuh know how it is.....
Thanks for the info on Monique's I will check it out.
Well you see me - I am coming to stay in Trinidad by some man me know from coming there for years and I am bringing my girls along as well - saves us renting a hotel. I made sure a fix up things proper and well tell the man that I am play mas with my girls - I figure it shouldn't really vex him and if it does I guess I will just have to spend the remainder of the trip in Tobago :) The way I look at it is that it don't bother me if he whine up with whoever so it shouldn't bother him if he see me going on mad :)
I also found this site that lists apartments rented by owners. I have no experience with them in Trinidad but found the Flamingo House in Dover one year for Crop Over through them.
http://www.vrbo.com/
Not much under Trinidad and Tobago but hope it helps still:
http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/trinidad-tabago#608
Also check the Express and Guardian Classifieds online, usually there are places for rent for Carnival. If you need me to scope out a place for you I can do an undercover review too.LOL
I don't have a S.O. right now. :-( But I guarantee when I do, that man in my life will have to A) play mas with me or B) if mas is not his thing let me play meh mas. He can even follow de band and take pics of me and my friends.
I see nothing wrong with taking a significant other to the carnival, as long as we're not joined at the hip. It's a great experience to share so go ahead!
A man tell me I cyar play mas??Well is then so we done! Boy!If I only give you a story!! I had a man who was so disrespectful he actually had me helping make costumes for he outside ting. Further disrespectful was that the section was in the same band I was in! He spent the whole day duckin both of we and moving back and forth between sections. The man nearly ruin that Carnival for me cause prior to that we always played together and did so very happily.
Well when I finally get wise and get a next man. He more vex when next Carnival come around and start stalking and threatening me about how he better doh see me with the new man on the road (or he will cut off my costume lol!).He skettel in the band yet he spend the whole two days following me to see who man I wining on (the new b/f was in a next band and i was real good). The man do all how to ruin my day. Aside from embarrassing me constantly he was getting on real psychotic and I had to get him throw out the band. I might give allyuh that story later.
Needless to say the current b/f play in the same band with me this year and I had to hold my breath to see what shit he would do (he is a man still). But suprisingly all went well and he did not cramp my style in any way.Buh I sorry, I doh care if its Carnival or not , I find some ppl does be real disrespectful . I doh like no woman who I never see before in my life coming and wining on my man like if that is theirs. Kicks is kicks and you could take a wine in clean fun but when they see they want to hold them dong and put leg up in the air on my man , i go have to sort them out. Especially if the man looking like he enjoying it a little too much.
After playing mas with my husband for the last four-five years, in de same band (and section most times), this year he told me he doh even want to be in de same band with me!
Meen have a problem with that though. Is long days now I telling him I doh want him in de same band with me, marking meh like he''s my personal security guard.
Let him go so and I will go so. You lime with your people and I go lime with ym people. If ah see yuh ah see yuh.
Saucyyyyyyyyyyyy...In de CARPARK hoss?! lol
(Me too eh! Me too..)
I say if you can't have the necessary equilibrium of freedom and girlfriend/boyfriend rights during Carnival..then it makes no sense wasting so much money knowing you're not going to have fun. I am a proponent of playin' mas with the hubby (doh get tie up, I doh have one yet, lol)...but Sauce not everybody have that level of understanding, yuh KNOW that!
Personally I have had a rendex-vous blossom during Carnival, to the tune of a 3 year relationship...so it's not impossible to make that connection.
But Hottie say it best, let ANY man try tuh tell me -a RHEL Carnival Baby- I cyah play mas, or trying to buss style on me for fete an' ting nah...he getting leave so far left he gonna tink he's a Republican, lol!
But if they understanding...then it won't lead to that...right?
Well then!

Girrrrrrrllll, CHURCH! hahahahaha
Oh shoot.. we about to have some problems up in dis! lolol
**WARNING** Devil's Advocate Question Ahead! >:D
But seriously, Carnival tends to have some thin lines when it comes to physical interaction
So everyone, what would we constitute to be "crossing the line?", knowing the Trini nature of flirtation?
That line is very thin indeed! A small wine is when you see someone you know, they gently graze the bumsee and move on. No holding down, gyrating, wining down to the ground kinda thing and especially not with a stranger!!!!
Ok, but Sauce, when you throw a little component called ALCOHOL in the mix.....that adds a new dynamic to the situation, hahahaha
Please don't forget that Tribe is all-inclusive! lololol!
And you know ANYBODY that "gently grazes bumsees" for Carnival? LOL!
LOL, well I wanted to be diplomatic. Seriously though, I don't wine on anyone for Carnival other than the hubby.....but me and my girl friends do hail out all the cute fellas we see, give them a lil cat call and ting! When I am on stage I parade up and down like a crazy woman by myself, the stage is no place to be putting down serious wine because the cameras always, always, always catch you misbehaving! I cannot have my poor mother seeing me getting on like that!
You don't have to just graze to take a friendly wine.
If you want a clear definition of crossing the line, yuh just have to remember the tune from back in the day..... if it ripe, it should be soft, yuh tink I foolish.... its a ripe plantain, just a ripe plantain.
Saucy said:
"..the stage is no place to be putting down serious wine because the cameras always, always, always catch you misbehaving!"
OMG, were they seriously trained to do that in director school? Cus the WAY I know people who get busted through Savannah camera..hahaha..
I think if you have a significant other with or without you on that day, that's the best way to behave yes...life really does go on after Carnival..
Allow me to introduce some statistical data to you, Saucy..
"The single day of the year with the most recorded breakups and/or divorces is February 15th, the day after Valentines."
And yuh SEE how is de week ah Carnival now? Lol, lawyer much?
Hottie - who you plaing mas with??
That Camera ting is a serious ting yuh.
This year at Crop Over I get catch pun camera while my band pass the judges....real people call me and tell me dey see me....even my boss dread..he kix at me long....luckly i was just by myself at the time so it wasn't no wassiness.....and with the countless websites they got bout de place yuh does have be watchful bout how yuh getting on.
Lets just say last year I was caught in some "ahem" precarious positions....lol
Thanks for the website saucy
Bajangal,,your man must have been one of the guys in the few bajan crews we meet up with for 2K6,,they not easy. If you hear story, and they want email address to keep in touch etc etc,,when asked where de wife or girlfren they ent have none. Well hear what happen, i got routed to barbados on my way back to the states,,ended up on the de plane with dem same bajans we meet. They were too happy, plenty seat switching for the flight to pair up with partner of choice. Girl when plane reach everybody wife waiting for them outside the airport. I wanted to laugh. Anyway, my husband is bajan and will be playing with me next year same section, i have mixed feelings about it cause i had too much fun with jus the girls and the ramdom stranger we met in the band. Even had 2 men battling over me,, loved it. but i plan to behave with huzzy around, he get to tief a little wine here and there and so will I,as long as none of us 'Stick' on one person.
Hell Yeah I'm not bringing sand my hubby to the beach. LOL Thank god my Hubby not Trini and don't know nothing about carnival and he hates crowds.LMAO
Carnival is my vacation and he already gets jealous if a dog looks at me too hard. He will go nuts seeing me in action for carnival. I not looking for horn and it's not like I'm sleeping with anyone while in Trinidad for carnival. But we have been married over 10yrs and we take separate vacations. Carnival is my time to re-charge my battery. Plus by the time I get back he is always jumping my bones.LOL
Every year around carnival he starts his shit about me leaving to go home. I told him on several occasions I will divorce his ass and make his life a living nightmare for the rest of the year if he ever tries to get in the way of my carnival vacation in Trinidad.

Can we say wooooowwww...the Carnival Feminist! :D
my 2 cents with adjustment for inflation...
For Carnival my hubby and I have fetes that we go to together, fetes that he goes to without me, and fetes that I go to without him. We like it so. We haven't played mas together YET but the plan is, when we do, to play in the same band but different sections.
But hear dis...this year me and my boy had a little disagreement that really taught me something new about him after 4 years of marriage. Now hubby is not a dancer...ok, he cyah dance and he ain't much of a winer, although he is Trini born and bred. So when he go to party he just limin', drinkin' and doin' a li'l two-step, nod-head ting he does do meanwhile I roamin' and dancin' up a storm.
So anyway, a girlfriend of mine took pics of me wining on a fella who hubby cyah stand. Hubby see pics and start to carry on (totally blowing it outta proportion as far as I concerned). Now truth be told I really cyah take on de fella either. He is a real arsehole who just loves to hear himself talk BUT give Jack he jacket, HE COULD WINE!!! So, wine connoisseur and cultural ambassador that I am, he throw waist, I ketch it. So I try to explain to hubby that a wine is just a wine and to besides I wined on HIM (from behind) and not the other way around yadda yadda yadda. You know this man go tell me that "a wine is a very sexual thing." Well at that point the debate fell apart. I done. I could not believe that a TRINI man was talkin' dat shit. I would expect that from a non-West Indian who knows nothing about our culture but he??!! *steups* Now I'm not disputing that a wine could be seen as simulated sex, it well rude, but for him to say dat?! Nah! I shut off and that was the end of that.
My sweetheart (who is American) and I have been playing mas' together for years now, always in the same band, and always in the same section, and we always have a blast. I pick out the costumes, taking care to balance his needs and mine. And he's been playing mas' long enough to know the difference between a 'platonic wine' and something more serious that that. He is not the type to make a fuss if a friend (or a welcome stranger) comes to take a little wine. An UNWELCOME stranger, that's another story. If some lunatic vagrant come to wine on me, is the Vulcan Death Grip he getting!
And since he is rather un-coordinated, and can't wine to save his life, it is a pure spectacle whenever a woman corners him for a wine. Sometimes I'm laughing until I can barely stand up, the poor fella look like a deer in the headlights! And lawd faddah, when he tries to wine back, I almost pee myself!
We see a lot of tension and fighting going on among a few other couples we know. But for the most part, these are the couples who argue with each other ALL THE TIME, so the atmosphere of Carnival is just going to magnify any bad feelings that are already there.
"And since he is rather un-coordinated, and can't wine to save his life, it is a pure spectacle whenever a woman corners him for a wine. Gyal i in d same boat. my husband is also american and i came home for carnival by myself. he was all right wid dat cuz i don aready prepare him long time bout we trinis and wining and carnival. but gyal he love to wine wid meh and ah doh mine but boy oui fout (sp)he does crack meh up when he try to wine for fella. bless his heart- - lol
he is going to try and come home for carnival in 2008, God spare life. as for the commotion for carnival, i know people dat had rehl falling out.
i was going out wid dis fella one time and he was trying to get me to not play mas. well boy he saw another side ah meh dat he did not know exist. den come carnival, ah had a blast until he start to crowd meh style. lets jus say dat relationship did not last long after.
carnival is dram but it sweeeet too bad. my husband saw d tribe dvd for dis year, but ah cyah wait for him to come over, so he could experience it himself.
Seeing as how it was hubby (Trini-in-TO) who got me into Caribana, of course we play mas together. It's the same here, you'll hear about all the break ups before Caribana, bc ppl want to be "free" to do their thing - as long as it's friendly innocent jam, nothing wrong w that, but course lotsa ppl go after much more than that.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't play mas w your SO, if all was well in the relationship. Unless you're reaaaallllly against the section they just absoutely love love love & must be in, why not play in the same section?
Marcus, wow Man, that's an AWESOME Xmas gift, surprising her & finding out which colour, VERY IMPRESSED!
For the past 6 years hubby and I have played mas together. Prior to that, he would only want to lime with his cousins and watch carnival on TV. I was like, "You travel all the way home to watch carnival on tv?". I told him for that, he could give me the cash he spend on the plane ticket, and I would bring him back a tape of carnival. LOL.
Well 6 years ago, I signed him up for a costume and paid for it, and told him after the fact. Then I laid the wife guilt trip on him, so he would not back out and make me lose my money.
Needless to say, I have been unable to get rid of him since!! He lives for mas now. He even collaborates with me in picking out the costume, because I need something with a comfy bra (I am top heavy), and he does not want to be looking "fruity" as he calls it. I have really come to enjoy his company on the road, and can't imagine doing it without him now. His friends heckled him about being with me in every fete and on the road, but his response is, "Carnival is the only time I can wine down all of my wife's friends all week long and not get smacked dung" LOL.
So I think my sand is as good as any to carry to the beach. I am not the jealous type, and neither is he. He can wine who he want, and so can I. At the end of the night, we both know we coming back home to each other, the 3 children, the dog, and the bills. So it's all good.
i admire all of your stories about carnval with S.O. My husband is trini and we have been married for 6 years a sometime i wish he enjoyed carnival a much as i do. Don't get me wrong he likes the music and such but for the past few years he is so occupied with making that all mighty dollar that he does not want to make time to ave fun. Imagine de man get vex when i take him on a surprise cruise, b/c he said we could have used that money for something else. Very very sad situation.
anonymous 11:18AM, he have to be crazy! A cruise is one of the best vacations!Next time take your girlfriend, sister or mom and leave him home :D
'rah, he throw waist and yuh ketch it! LOL! Allyuh too sweet yes. Dem man and dem mustbe does be TREMBLING when Carnival come around, the amount a man on this post alone get threaten/dump. AH LOVE IT!!!!!
I so hear ya Trini orisha gyal, same for us, except hubby don't collaborate with me on picking the costume - we play w the same section leader (minus the 1st year., & the yr. I wasn't into his costume).
The whole teasing thing about taking your SO to Caribana doesn't go on here.
i would just tell allyuh dat know dey caaan behave during carnival...sever all ties from now...nuttin worse - than u let loose ALL u inhibitions fuh two days...and dey does find out and dey kick u to the curb...lol...but if u must misbehave, have a blast doing it...u living only once!!
