Island People Earlybirds get a Discount!

Hey, seems like the people who registered online first with Island People are getting a discount! Someone at their camp is SO not a math wizard. They calculated the costume prices using the wrong exchange rate! Check out their "News" page to see it yourself.

I just asked someone I know how much they paid for their costume and was informed that it cost $524.00, well that costume is now $550.00!!!! That is a difference of $26.00 that she got off her costume. I have no clue what figure they used to calculate the intial USD prices, but the new rate is calculated using $6.00TT to $1.00US. The follwing is from the website:

"17/10/06

The initial costume USD prices that were posted on our website were incorrect as they were calculated using the wrong USD exchange rate. If you have made your payment before 16th October 2006 your registration will be completed using the initial USD prices posted.

Any payments made after 16th October 2006 must be in the amount of the currently posted USD prices. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

I guess this is one time that payment in full actually benefits some people since those who registered up until yesterday got their costume cheaper than it is today, and Island People has no choice but to let it slide!

The comedy of errors continues. Ip should just give up, obviously they eh ready for this mas ting yet.

Oh please Diva, i am sure if you were to come out with your own damn band you would crash and burn. IP doing the best they could, they should be rewarded for their 'little' effort. People make mistakes. No band is perfect.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

The point is though this is NOT their first year,I expect these mistakes from a band making their debut for the first time but not one with one year under their belt already. You want to see a band that has been sailing smooth all along, take a look at Pulse 8, this is their first year and I am yet to hear or see anything negative or any experience any hiccups as yet.

No band is perfect, quite true, but what separates the mice from the men are the ones who recognise that fact and try their best to answer the critics and detractors year after year.Eventually they will be as close to perfect as any one band can be.

When is IP going to get it together? Are they not the least bit ashamed to say this? Who would have known the difference. And now that we know do people get a refund if they overpaid? And why has it taken almost a month for them to notice this? Sounds fishy to me. Their PR person should be fired immediately. Or to borrow from my mother... "they should be shot with sh*t!!" They continue to make themselves look like a bunch of bumbling idiots! And they need to stop it! IMMEDIATELY!! (Remember the e-mail about "it had a [computer error]" Goodness gracious.
I feel sorry for people who have chosen to play with IP. I hope that they realise that since IP is, at this point, incapable of doing basic mathematical manipulation (outside of adding all of the money they take to the bank) they should expect very little from them in terms of the production of the band.

Sad sad!

hey but people who registered up to yesterday got their costume cheaper, why allyuh vex?! :D

It's Island People loosing out, and since they wanted payment in FULL they can't come and change the price for those who already registered before the 16th ha ha !

It does real kill me how all the people with derogatory comments to other ppl's post always "anonymous". I not chupid, I KNOW that if I bring out a band now I probably will damn well crash and burn. Which is EXACTLY the reason why I have not brought out my own band or section for that matter.
Seeing that I have the common sense to see that I am not prepared to offer such a service at a premium level and hence am not willing to financially commit myself to such a venture, I would think that other intelligent business minded people would be able to analyse the sameand arrive at teh same result. "If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail" and of course "If you can't do it right, don't do it at all".
As saucy well pointed out, this is not the FIRST time nor is it the second orthe third. Most of the designers in IP had sections before and many had the same issues of disorganisation

Oh well. I would say something but I can't keep wasting my mental energy on this band. And the anonymous apologists that seem to berate people for thier OWN opinions.

Hi Peeps! We got another one:
"anon 11:27"..............steups.

Anyhow, Diva girl I'm sure if you bring out a band if is one thing you not making no mistake with is yuh $$$$ ok??!! Let's be real. You might forget people costume, they food and might even forget the music, but you ain't never going to forget to fix your pocket!!

But what kills me time and time again with IP, they have no shame!! They put these things up on their site that only making them look even more ridiculous. If it were me, I was biting the bullet and taking the loss to save face yuh know. I mean the bulk of the band sell already. No one was ever going to know I did not know is a 6:1 between TT and US. It have to be some other reason, or DAMN DAMN DAMN IP! I shame fuh allyuh.

Carnival Jumbie said...

actually it 1US : 6.3TT!!!!

Anonymous said...

Looks to me like they were actually giving the REAL conversion for US to TT. Have you guys ever stopped to think about all the extra money these bands making from the foreign mas players that only getting 6 to 1? Them few cents can add up to thousands of dollars!!!!!

Steuppppsssssssssssssssss. Is comments like this that does really piss me orf:
"IP doing the best they could, they should be rewarded for their 'little' effort. People make mistakes. No band is perfect."

Is de folks SECOND year after a series of unfortunate events their FIRST year! Dare I say de ting went smoother in dey first year? The masquerader should be getting the damn reward, not de bloody bhann. Is paying customers these people serving, not one set ah Welfare recipients! DEM OUT AND BAD TUH RASS! People come in hey under dey "Anonymous" and getting on like dey de bandleader's outside woman. I mean whaaaa:
"I am sure if you were to come out with your own damn band you would crash and burn."
And I KNOW is just not me, but nuff Pamprin and Midol wid extra diuretic for bloating need to share in hey today.

But allyuh doh forget:

WE LOVE YOU!

Anonymous said...

Actually, if you multiply it out, they're using 5.99+. At least for the 2 sections I just looked at. So really it's anyone's guess what math IP is really using. Either way I think it's in poor taste to change prices after the fact.

And really there's no profit if transactions are in cash because cash is a straight 6:1. SO if I go to pick up my costume and give them US$400 in cash when they go to the bank, all they getting is TT$2400. No profit there.
