While other bands, such as Trini Revellers , show an increase in price which can be as marginal as 30% (Rugeri for instance), other sections reflect a price increase of 75% since 2000. Also, take note that in 2000 the sections I have listed were costume only; I could not find a price for any all-inclusive section for 2000. However, in 2001 I can see the foundation was set with Island Events all-inclusive package for the other sections to follow. Galvanize really upped the ante with the long list of extras that their package included, having never played with Galvanize I can only guess that they did deliver on those promises. It is obvious that as the bands added more and more perks to the all-inclusive package so too did the prices continue to rise.
That brings us to TRIBE today and their all-inclusive package. What I have come to realise, and maybe some people have not, is that apart from the costume and all-inclusive package, we the masquerader pay for all the niceties and extras that comes along with TRIBE. When I complain that other mas camps are hot, that their facilites are not up to my standard or that people waiting to register have to stand outside in the hot sun while I was sitting at Cascadia in air-conditioned comfort, well all those "luxuries" are what I pay for in addition to an excellent time on the road on Monday and Tuesday. Knowing this, the price of my costume is worth it to me, while to others they are quite content with their mas camp having no air conditioning or not having "cool zones" and wee wee trucks on the road if it means their costume price will be cheaper.
Maybe I am a little too " stush" for some people, maybe I am channeling my inner Diva or I just like myself too much and always think I deserve the best, but these are probably all the same reasons why I will not go to WASA fete but I will go to Amnesia. I work hard for my money and enjoy spending it in ways that please me, not to please other people.

LOL! LOL! Take DAT in yuh rookookotungkun! I with you girl. Money may not buy happiness but it sure as hell can buy comfort!
Yes, not that anything wrong with WASA fete eh, but I went once many years ago and the whole vibe was not for me!As I have gotten older so too have my tastes become more refined.I think I am at the age where I am working, living comfortably and debt free so I can afford little luxuries that bring me comfort and happiness. As I always ask people who say "money does not bring you happiness",so, poverty does? You can be pooor and unhappy just like you can be rich and unhappy; the only difference is that the rich can live unhappily comfortably!
well I can personally vouch that Galvanize Ent did NOT deliver on all their amenities when I played w/ their God-awful Celosia section for 2k3. They ran out of food for lunch on Carnival Tues, their LTB system never worked, I registered very early & never got my Girl Power ticket that was promised to me by Wyatt. And the Mon gear by Radical Designs was an embarassment! I guess that's what I get for playin fass & abandoning Pleasurescarnival (Tribe) that year - I'll never forgive myself for that. Whenever I saw that gorgeous Osiana costume on the road I wanted to hide my ugly Celosia costume :(
Yeah but discomania drinks eh reach till 1pm on Monday (with lunch) was not impressed.I think I had play in Sambistas too yes lolol that was a shit costume! But it was free so say what.Where the ass you find them pics???lol
kevian I did not find the price for Celosia female, oops!
Oh, and to answer you Kevian,I don't think some of the costumes in Tribe are worth the price for sure! For me my costume price has increased from $1795.00 in 2005 to $2935.00 in 2007,though next year's costume is more elaborate than the one I had for 2005. That difference of $1140.00 over the two years is alot,I agree, however I have been seeing that as a masquerader I am also getting "more for my money" than I did before.I cannot put a price on what it means to me to go to a mascamp and not have someone talk down to me, or when I need information and call them on the phone they are not only courteous, but very helpful.Neither can I price the sense of security I have in knowing that what I am paying for (as advertised by said band) is what I am getting at the end of the day.To me being a band where I am comfortable, not having to worry about stormers and some random stranger coming to pull me for a wine,is all part of that price. Being able to lime with my friends, have a good time, have freedom in the band (not being told to stay in my section)makes me enjoy my Carnival even more. And,when it comes to service I cannot complain.Notice I did not talk about the food, drinks, goody bag, mobile toilets, cool zone etc. etc. that are all part of the all-inclusive package. Those things I can bring down to a dollar value, but intangible benefits, for me, is worth it.
Like I said, people are different and what is important to me might not be a priority for other people and for them I say,AGAIN, there is a band to suit you.
Kevian so true; there is a lady who works with me who always has a comment about how I does "waste my money" behind mas.But get this, every single day she buys cheap Chinese food from Tai Hing on Park Street at $11.00 a box. We have 5 working days a week and 52 weeks in the year, so she buys this cheap food 260 days a year and spends $2860.00 at the end of it all..that money could be used towards a costume ent? And if you think she NEEDS to buy this food or else she will starve,no, Ms. Lady brings a homecooked meal but eats it for breakfast and then buys the cheap Chinese food for lunch! On the rare occasion she does not buy Tai Hing she eats a KFC dinner special :S Needless to say she is overweight.
So her money is going toward the cheap Chinese food, that she shitting out after, and mine going towards my two days of enjoyment.Ent it boil down to the same damn ting? We both spending money on things that are important to us, what we value, what brings us some measure of satisfaction and happiness, the difference is I don't have nothing to say to her when she wolfing down the rice and noodles like a starving Somalian but she always have something to tell me about how I spending MY damn money. One of these ah go tell she haul she kiss meh arse self with she stink Chinese food!!!
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH GAD!!!!! Well yes! I only HOPE none ah dem Chinese food people does read dis blog! People does spend thousands a year in drinks. I find THAT is a waste of money. Lemme spend my money on a costume that makes me feel even more of a goddess than I already do yes!
Hottie I doh know if the food stink eh,LOL,I never eat it and I hope i eh offend amybody who does buy they cheap Chinese food. But it does be pack up with rice and God knows what kinda meat.I really used the "stink" for emphasis cause it does disgust me how she so damn greedy and ready to pass she mouth on everybody else!!!
LOL! But yuh eh see how high people used to wear dey waistband (ah know ah changing de topic.)
yeah Hotts and check how tight and small dem man pants was LOL!
LOL! Death by noodle!
She not going to be reading the blog, trust me!
OH SHIMS look meh Prurience costume. LOL LOL LOL that was my first time playing mas in Trinidad and I felt I was "it" yuh know! bwahahaha. It was simpler times back then I guess.
But the next time I played with them in Celosia, yes I can vouch with Ampy on this one....was awful. The costume was ill-fitting and cheaply made, imagine I'm a 36C and I was afraid of falling out of my bra. They used glitter...who uses glitter on a costume??? not even Legends with thier older stuff used glitter!!! GLITTER! The food was sour and even though I'm not creative in ordering my drinks but the day I decided to be creative, they didn't have what I wanted. I was doubly vex because I wanted to play in either Osiana or Desert Rose and I decided to play in this purple and red shite! *steups* I does still get vex about it! :-(
Desert Rose wa a pretty costume doh mind yuh could order pratically everything online!!
Osiana looked gorgeous on the road I must say, though I didn't feel the headpiece that much.
So true. But I didn't know better back then. At least now I can go to Jackson Heights in Queens, or online and play out my Desert Rose fantasy! LOL
Thanks for that Way Back Machine link, Saucy!! I was just having a conversation with someone about my FAVORITE Poison costume ... SHANGHAI. But we were disagreeing on the year that Poison came out with Culture Shock. Looks like yours truly just won some Carnival spending money!!
way back machine is the thing self!
whats the next best band after tribe?
