Christmas Gifts for Your Carnival Baby

Even though I an being somewhat of a scrooge this Christmas, only buying gifts for a few since I am not celebrating Christmas in the traditional sense I thought of those of you who are still trying to rack your brains to think of gifts for friends and family members who are certified Carnival babies. And for anyone thinking of getting me a gift, I would be quite happy with any from this list, especially #1!

1.Pay off the balance on their costume. This is the ultimate gift for someone who is playing mas next year, but if you cannot afford to pay off the balance making a payment towards their costume is as good a gift as any. And with so many bands accepting payment online you can get this gift without ever having to leave your home.

2. Matching footwear for their costume. This takes some input from the person for whom the gift is intended; try to get an idea of what type of footwear they are interested in getting. Some people prefer boots over sneakers as well as the fact that the footwear has to be a match to the costume.

3. Clothing and shoes. When shopping for clothing take into consideration that you are buying items that will be used for going to fetes and limes. It can be nice tops, a pair of jeans or short pants. Get clothes that are in style but look for unique pieces so that he/she will not be look line a clone when partying. Shoes might be tricky if you are living abroad where it is winter, but try to find cute sandals, wedge heels and flats. Many shops now have “resort wear” that cater for people escaping the cold weather on vacation, so you should be able to find appropriate clothing and shoes.

4. Make up. This one is tricky since you are essentially getting her makeup to match her costume. Items to get would include makeup primer, lipstick, eye shadow and eyeliner. It is crucial to pay attention to the brand she already uses, do not deviate from that norm. Most women would already have an idea of what colours they are interested in by now, it will not hurt to ask nicely if she has started shopping for makeup for Carnival. The ultimate gift in this respect would be to sponsor a makeup artist to do her makeup on Carnival Tuesday.

5. Spa certificate. This is to be used for that body polish, manicure or pedicure before Carnival or it can be used for a massage after Carnival as well. A very flexible gift that allows the person to enjoy a day of pampering.

6. Luggage. This is for the Carnival babies that do not live in Trinidad. Let them travel in style with new luggage; get suitcases on wheels and for the ladies get the matching makeup/overnight kit as well. Do a search for reviews on the best brands to get and luggage these days come in some fun colours and designs, no need to stick with boring black.

Ah cyah sleep..steups! That fire engine red sounds hot! Same wid me, I'm not buying no big set ah gifts at all. I see people real shoppin in de mall last night..craziness.

OH i wish I could go to Bliss! I still watch de pictures from dis year on Trinijungle juice. Tribe seriously went alll out. If I was going, I think I would want to wear a red/orange/yellow print top..preferably that see thru-ish light material.. off the shoulder..crop top with puffy-ish short sleaves and maybe some white jeans or thigh-hi cargo pants wid de draw string leg.. or white skirt.... with gold accessories...and maybe a gold clutch....hehehe in my dreams!

morning Saucy - for that fire-engine red lipstick - did u notice the 1 I was wearing when we met? I've been obsessed w/ this lipstick all year. It's Dior Positive Red in case u are interested.

Well you can save that outfit for one of the fetes when you land.

I am thinking either go with nice bermuda/city shorts or even a dress for Bliss. Not too sure what the final outfit will be but I don't want the normal jeans and top.

Mornin Sauce: As usual, you are right on the money. I would go with 1, 3, 5 and 6. I guess I'll have to introduce my husband, sons and friends to this blog. Then I will be good to go.

nairian I did not forget, I am getting ear-rings with my costume which is good for me!

But I did forget to add it to the clothes/shoes listing since you need to complete the look ;)

But aye aye Saucy! Like yuh copy and paste meh entire Wish List!

For those of you living in foreign (like me) trying to persuade your family/friends/significant other/de special friend(s) regarding #3 (like me), direct them to zappos.com. They have great shoes (just doh want to see allyuh in meh shoes), reasonable prices compared to what you may have to pay in the store, free shipping, and a great return policy (in case the shoe looks better online than on yuh foot).

Regarding #4, I will happily accept a MAC gift certificate, please and thanks!

Also, doh sleep on #6. Considering the TSA airline travel policy from the U.S. now, where you are only allowed to carry liquid in containers that are 3 oz. or smaller in ONE quart-sized, zip-topped, clear plastic bag, items that I would normally put in my carry-on I now have to check in. So now I need another bag! Oh ... and allyuh doh try to sneak anything past the people in the airport please (like trying to use a gallon-sized Ziploc bag). They are being pretty strict about this (esp. leaving certain airports).

I'll take a 1-5 please. Went Christmas shopping last night my card took a beating. And I going late night shopping for tops for the weekend.
So Saucy you say about lipstick, but you doing eyeshadow and ting too? what colours etc

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Yup, I am doing the eyes as well...I am thinking of trying to replicate the flame that the model for Fireman has on her face. Check the website for the pic:

So that would mean gold and red eye make up.

I picked up a hot red gloss from MAC lst week. It's called Autobody red. Perfect for whatever red costume you're wearing.

As for my wish list I could use some new luggage. The set I have has currently taken a beating. I'm afriad it may fall apart right on the conveyor belt in Piarco. LOL

Saucy - the Dior lipstick I'm using does not last all day if I eat or drink anything unfortunately. You can make it last longer if u fill in your lips 1st w/ a lipliner or if u use a primer. But it does a decent job of keeping them soft. I am just so in love w/ this color that I'll probably wear if for Carnival too.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

thanks amprincess! But ahmm.. how de red come in? It eh matching your costume? LOL

Saucy I ent care if it not matching my costume - I need some color on my face!
