Work out week 3.. …panic setting in!

Just because I have not written about the gym for this week don’t think I have not been going! I am now an official, card carrying member of the new gym and my abs and legs are not making me forget it. My husband is no longer is my drill sergeant; one of the ladies at the gym is training me. This works out much better actually since I no longer have to hear anything about being “lame”. Though I do find female gym instructors are much tougher than the males!

The thing is that I keep looking in the mirror every day looking for changes and honestly I am seeing nothing! Maybe I am getting paranoid or maybe I was hoping for miracles but to me I am not seeing a difference. Forget about the scale, I think I only saw two pounds LESS when I weighed at the gym than when I weighed after Christmas.

I am going by past experiences and hoping that come Carnival week when I collect and try on my costume that I would see some change. Yes, I know I have no one to blame for procrastinating with my work outs but myself, but I am only human! If all else fails I have a back up plan (which I already shared with Jamette) . And please, don’t say “but girl you looking good, why are you worrying?” since I have been told this by several people who I don’t think paid close attention to my costume!! I am very, very critical of how I look in my Carnival costume; I am not the type to just say “frig that” and let it all hang out.

So, I am trying to not panic and go by my motto that slow and steady wins the race but don’t be surprised if I start the Cabbage soup diet and take a “purge” to get rid of the extra pounds coming closer to Carnival! Yeah, drastic times calls for drastic measures!

Hmmmm, I guess I can only comment on what I'm going through. I stared my "Carnival training" in November, bc I knew just 1 month wouldn't give me what I was looking for. I also knew I had to change it up, do something different & more extreme, bc I've reached the point where just running won't cut it for me.
I hear too that you can lose weight fast w one food diets, like w low carb, eating just eggs for 5 days or a week (Atkins), I know, sounds boring, but it has worked for many. People have successfully done the eggs-for-a-week when they've plateaued too.

Just keep going gyrl, what you're doing is healthy afterall, so if you don't 100% achieve your goal, you're still living right. I know about putting high expectations on yourself, we are our own worst critics. The image we have of ourselves is often skewed compared to what others see.

Hmm, never heard of the egg diet. I have done the Cabbage soup in the past and that worked well enough to drop a few pounds.

Girl, I started eating "right" last year (lapsed a bit over Christmas) but I was procrastinating working out!!

I know about the skewed body image but I can't help it!

Purge is joke. I going and look for some senna for this weekend self since i not going anywhere. I going right back to when i was 8 and holidays done and granny pull out the senna and make yuh drink it.

I try to weigh on only one scale though because my weight changes are so miniscule i can't gamble with all these different scales. But me and that one scale fall out today because i ain't too like what it say to me.

Hi Saucy you sound just like me, doing the same gym thing, looking at myself in the mirror not seeing any changes but yet ppl telling me they are seeing changes,i to am just waiting for that day when i put on my costume what a day that will be

Saucy, I think I know how you feel. Even when I weighed a scrawny 110 pounds (and trust me, I mean SCRAWNY), I thought my belly wasn't flat enough, my thighs were not lean enough - you name it and I had something negative to say. Since then I have put on a great deal of weight, for a variety of reasons I can't go into here. But the most devastating blow to me has been the loss of energy. I honestly wouldn't mind being the size that I am if I weren't so exhausted all the time. Seriously, I could sleep for 16 hours a day and still feel tired. Now I realize that I would be thrilled to have the body I criticized so harshly 15 years ago.

So my weight-loss endeavours are more for my health than anything else, but there's a little vanity thrown in as well. That's why I know that I shouldn't resort to anything drastic.

Please try not to be so critcal of yourself. You really don't appreciate how strong and beautiful your body is today, but years from now, you will look at pictures of yourself in your Fireman costume and say "DAMN! What the hell was I complaining about?"

ps
Abs of Steel last night: Lotta sweat, lotta burn, but NO CRAMPS!

Aye! I feel the same way now about pics of me in costumes from years gone by. I have the same worries every year, trust me! Like you I neevr think the belly flat enough or legs small enough, even when my collar bone used to be showing!!!

I hope your energy increases now that you have started working out.

jamette you brave with the senna! I was thinking one of those purge packs lol.

Saucy, I know just what you're going thru. I started since Oct which would usually have done the trick but I was VERY sick all last summer and the issues I had led to some weight gain. I actually made great progress but its not where I thought I'd be in January.

What is the cabbage diet & whats the eggs for a week one? Please share. Jammette, I boiled some senna last week and drank that and ate aloe for three days last week...temporary fix but it does work. I'm never doing it again tho...gave a very unpleasant meaning to "Cold Sweat"!!

So funny that a lot of us are having the same issues. Just a couple days ago I said to somebody that come Feb 1 I feel I will just have to stop eating. Period.
Realistically though, I think that is when I'll get desperate and attempt some kind of dietary restrictions. I heard rave reviews about the "Lose 10lbs in 3 days" aka Cleveland diet, tried it and after losing 5 lbs in 2 days didn't make it to Day 3. What can I say, I love food and all those vegetables were killing me. But I will definitely try it again and hope for the best.

Saucy, why can't you do the Cabbage soup eating plan now? Water weighs "heavy" in the body (the scale is not your friend here), and isn't the soup mainly for losing excess water in the body? So, with your cardios, running, stomach, weight exercises, and a revised eating plan, you should see a "dramatic" difference in the 7 days. And then you will see if that is where you want to be, realistically (I think you will have one more 7 days cycle, if you started one now, before Carnival Sunday). This sounds like too much, but maybe you could handle it.

I have never appreciated the "frig that" look on Carnival Tuesday, either. I can't take away the fun these women appear to be having, but sometimes I just want to reach in meh back pocket an pull out a sheet to cover them up, and heaven knows I have ran out of sheets many times...LoL

1 month to go (23 days for me, I will be in Trinidad, Feb 10)

BTW off topic - Harts have a big ad in today's Guardian saying the band is now completely sold out!

actually dougs I was thinking of doing the cabbage soup next week and again the week before Carnival since it is supposed to be done only for one week with a two week break.

'rah don't know about the Cleveland Diet have not heard of it but will google it.

eh heh 'rah, I did not look at a paper today. I usually just browse online but I will see if I can get ahold of one.

It's comforting to know that we as women are so different, yet similar with certain issues. I too have been working out since October and not seen the results I wanted, so I have resorted to going to the gym twice a day - cardio one session and weights for the other.

If I am still not happy with the results of this by month end, I may resort to the "master cleanse" (ingredients and directions online when googled). Everyone that I know who has tried it has dropped weight in as little as 5 days - so it might be lemon water and maple syrup for me just now.

Good luck to everyone - I am sure that we will all look FABULOUS Carnival Tuesday - hell or highwater come!

Talk bout self-conscious!!!!
Of course I am just as bad (hate my rice-belly with a passion), but judging from the very few pics of yourself that you posted Saucy, I have to agree with the scores of ppl who tell you that you're just fine. But, daz jus me... Granted, I probably shouldn't talk cuz de amount of times ppl say I should model and I swear up and down they must be mad. Lol. But, at the end of the day, all you can do is your best. Bless :)

the cabbage soup diet is a fad diet, not only is it unhealthy but you lose water weight, not fat.

I think they must have placed that ad in anticipation... lol

They changed 'Herland' to SOLD OUT this afternoon. Right now, the website is only showing one section left, the rather boring 'Nirvana'. But still, it looks like Harts really will be the first band to sell out!

hey Sauce,

Just getting the chance to read this. I have to tell you last night I finally decided the time had come to brave the savannah for a run. After 3 months of turbo jam....it was time, do or die. The last time i attempted the savannah was 2005 with my little sister, that skinny somebody with energy to give away. WE started out at QRC heading toward the zoo and by the time we got to the US Embassy, my chest tightened, my lungs knotted up and every muscle in my body stopped functioning, so I stopped.
So last night my goal was just to make it to the Embassy, but guess what? I finished, without stopping and maintained a steady running pace.

Whatever your fitness goals are you can do it. Focus and cut yourself some slack sometimes. I too am not seeing the results I thought I would, however something has got to give. I've changed how I eat, I'm working out 6 days a week so SOMETHING MUST BE DIFFERENT BY CARNIVAL DAMNIT!!!

Push yourself....but don't break yourself.

All the best!!

Thanks warrior! Glad you made the run girl.I am saying something MUST look different by then myself :D

I just came back from the gym, did aerobics, abs and then the bike!! I plan on dropping my calorie intake doing a "diet", yes a real diet, from tomorrow. Not too sure I am going to do the cabbage soup but I am doing the other diet, the Cleveland diet that 'rah suggested.

squeezle I looked through the papers and I am yet to see that Harts ad!! Maybe I am blind.

saucy I'm on your page, I'm feeling a bit of panic myself. FInally got on the scale and counted those extra pounds! there are more than I had hoped there would be and really don't plan to have my belly playing mas right in front of me!

In any case, I have always worked out regularly so I can tell you losing weight quickly is ALL about diet.

My plan is to drastically cut carbs, I've already cut out sugar, bread, rice etc for about 10 days but as of today I'm cutting out the hidden stuff too. That means fruits, certain sweet veggies, sauces, sweet salad dressing, ketchup etc. It's not the most pleasant but it will cut weight and fat quickly and I need to offload about 10 lbs in 30 days.

And it does have some immediate benefits, after 10 days off sugar, bread and rice my skin has completely cleared up, my energy is up and I am not my stomach feels regular for the first time in 2 months.

Please don't rely on weighing yourself as a measure of "seeing a difference".
I am right now almost 8lbs less than I weighed last year...BUT I am a size bigger.
REMEMBER muscle weighs more than fat.

Best diet tips are:

Try to avoid drastic diets because the shock of not getting the food your body is used to will trick it into thinking it is starving and make it store fat.

Drink at LEAST 2 litres of water a day
Eat a grapefruit in the morning as apart of your breakfast it help your digestive system break down foods better
Load up on snacks like cucumber, carrots, celery, sliced red and green peppers.
Cut out ALL Bread, rice and pasta.
Avoid Pop and juices they are both LOADED with sugar.
eat plenty of greens, lettuce, spinach, broccoli
and for meat tuna lean chicken an salmon
cut down your portions in half but eat more times a day (5-6 small "meals")
Don't eat after 8pm.

there is still time to make a difference... the best way is cardio, at least 30 mins per session at least 5 times a week
lower the weights and up the repetitions on your workout
