Frontline closeups

This afternoon saw me at Cascadia, again, the second of possibly many more trips until I see all the costumes. Unfortunately only three more frontlines were on show; Mystique, Goddess of the Chase and Pixie Dust. Butterfly Bliss, Black Magic, Phoenix and Silver Mist are still to be displayed.

I was delighted to see that Luna now has an upgraded headpiece that is much better than the headband though I think something more whimsical would suit the costume better. Information given is that an upgrade to the bra might soon be in works as well.

Since I just happened to meet up with other bloggers also looking at costumes we took a second look at Silver Mist with the fur and decided it is not that bad, it is certainly different and I can see it looking less conspicuous on smaller breasts, larger breasts, well it would certainly be a larger area of grey fur that might look like a rug!

As for prices, do you want the good news or the bad news first? OK, bad news is that all frontline costumes will require FULL PAYMENT upon registration, reason being that several people signed up for frontlines this year with only the down payment and never collected their costume. Bad news is that many of those frontlines that we are fawning over will be over any one's estimated budget.

Any frontline using lots of feathers, expect a MUCH higher price tag than expected, since I was informed one frontline costume used $600.00US worth of feathers in the headpiece alone.. .so you can imagine the final price!! Good news is that there will be frontlines on the cheaper side, one of them is a more popular section so that should satisfy all the divas wanting to be F.H.O.s next year, bad news is that it is a popular choice so I am sorry for those without a TLC card. Good news is that by next week we should get prices on all the costumes bad news is that many of us will realise we cannot afford the costume!

Now that part is over unto the review of the frontlines that were on display:

Goddess of the Chase - I could not be more in love with the costume! The frontline bra and belt has subtle upgrades over the back line such as different beads used on the bra and longer fuller beads on the belt. But that headpiece is just amazing... sigh. The bra is lined, I checked, so the pleather will not be rubbing against you skin, however the underwear is not fully lined, only at the crotch area.

Mystique- Love it, love it, love it! The colour is beautiful, a very rich shade of purple. Love the headpiece , love the belt (though I would trim that piece of braid on the right that is hanging in space) and I even love the wing/fin. The material on the bra is lovely, soft and not stiff as I imagined; the only thing I don't love but could live with is the feathers on the bra.

Pixie Dust - With a different headpiece this might work for me, I still think it is too much with the headpiece and the wings but other people might love it. Also it would be nice to have a bra option for those not wanting the Corsette. The colour is very pretty and I like the shimmery material used on the Corsette, wings and belt.

Hopefully when next I return to Cascadia all the frontlines will be up so I can get some close up shots of those that are missing to add to the album, which will be updated with photos from this afternoon.

I love tribe, but I think they are taking people for granted now with their prices, I live in the US and I am involved in carnival and know the prices of feathers, that price they are saying they paid is not true, its a ripoff,in order to raise their prices. soon people will realise what is going on and boycott these bands, now they are asking for full payment, what they should do is allow TLC card holders to make the regular downpayment and if they do not collect the costume then they should revoke the card, come on TLC holders petition tribe to make these changes or they would loose a lot of their loyal mas players.or they can also give foreigners until December to pay off for their costumes, remember we also have to purchase airline tickets and pay for hotels, this is totally unfair and unreasonable.

when I go to heaven, I want a BIGGGG flipping head piece like that oui! Mystique is gorgeous full stop. Pixie dust, is fantastic, but I find that the head piece is sort of clashing a bit.. Luna h/piece.. getting there! getting there!

Go Luna !!!

Ok this might be a dumb question but the big lovely head piece is for the front line correct?!?! because i was looking at the card in the picture and it says goddess of the chase individual!!!!!

Anonymous said...

its not a dumb question. I saw the same thing?

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

The card said individual but it is the frontline as we questioned one of the designers on that "faux pas". She said Goddess has 3 headpiece options, and the largest IS a frontline ie more than one will be made.

Saucy, did you notice if the large headpieces had any padding on areas like around the forehead/temples to provide a more comfortable fit? can't really tell from pics but it would be awful to have a nice lovely headpiece and 2 hrs into wearing it you have a headache...wonder what the models at the launch had to say about the wearability and comfort for the larger pieces...

analise most of the headpieces seem to have some sort of lining with the exception of Goddess of the Chase. That one at the moment has a plastic base with the feathers sprouting from it. I asked if the base will be padded/lined as the plastic felt hard to the touch and was told that it would since the headpiece was unfinished having been rushed to becompleted for the night of the launch.

cool thanks Saucy :)

Why are the nicest costumes always blue? Maybe I should start a tradition of playing in blue every year. I LOOOOOVE Pixie Dust!

saucy is there a price list for the costumes??

hey Saucy...nice to see you at the camp.
Looking at the website, i am disappointed by the back of the Isis Opt B...it looks so tacky.
But i'm still lving Amalthea the most, Goddess of the Chase, Lady of the Lake and Black magic (even though i wouldn't wear a black costume)...
Silver Mist is growing on me, but i would have to live in the gym daily, and be on a restricted iet to wear that LOL

i also live in nyc, and the price that they quoted for the feathers is highway robbery and someone is trying to make more money than they should. feathers can be bought over her wholesale at a much cheaper price, i think that someone is trying to take advantage.

wow, yu have to pay in full!! that is what ip asked of their masqueraders last year, and yu saucy had alot to say about that!! how come you not talking badly about that move now that tribe is doing it as well???

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

After IP set the precedent there is nothing much to say really, Trini Revellers also had the same rules in place last year abd by then it was like beating a dead horse.

Besides I have not heard anything official from TRIBE on what the payment option will be for frontline costumes..wheter it will indeed be full payment or 50% or another price.. check my AMENDED post above where I said exactly that.

Individuals are different.. that is just ONE costume and they have special rules for that.

How many more "anonymous" people will find there way over from islandmix I wonder? I doh have nutten to do with that forum, like allyuh missing meh over there or what? rofl
