Don't mind the front page is the same, Myths and Magic website is up people!
After playing around with the website all night I have to say I like the design but it is not very user friendly to persons on dial up. I have dial up at home and had to leave the pages loading while doing something else, then return to the page after the cross turned blue which meant that the page was loaded. The only good thing is that once the page has loaded it is saved in cache so there are no problems accessing the pages again and again.
The live ladies walking and posing in the costume to me was a nice touch, I got to see how some of the costumes moved, like Black Magic where the beads swayed from side to side. I did not experience any lengthy wait before the model did her thing and the option to view photos came up. I like that they did offer the viewing of photos in a non flash medium; I would not be able to stand another set of pages loading just to view the close up of the costumes! I hope the dial up users/non flash version of the website is launched soon.
I did expect to see all the front line costumes, and in that area was disappointed. The front lines on show were Pixie Dust, Lady of the Lake and Mystique. It was nice to get more views of Lady of the Lake but I wanted a full back shot of the model without the cape wearing the back piece.

If you are used to TRIBE one should have expected that prices do not go up on the website right away, so no surprise for me there expecting prices to be displayed. For Carnival 2006 and 2007 prices went up on the website at another date after it was loaded. I cannot recall checking the website before registering for Carnival 2005 as they were a new band and I just went to the mas camp to check out the costumes and signed up right then and there.

It would do the authors of the section's description to take note of Prettidolli's keen observations on Goddess of the Chase not being the mythical Athena as well as the definition of a Nymph.
Finally, it amazes me the amount of expectations and ideals are placed on the band TRIBE mostly by persons who are not even masqueraders, considering becoming a masquerader or used to be a masquerader. It is as if there is no room for error with TRIBE while other band are given lots of lee ways and excuses made with the justification being that their on road experience is all that matters. I have to hand it to TRIBE for trying to be innovative, even if it does not work out all the time they always try something new which is a good thing for their masqueraders as each year we can look forward to upgrades in service and amenities. And, the most important thing of all is that they listen to their masquerader's and try to effect the changes necessary the following year. As a masquerader I often point out their good and bad areas and I am not bounded by any type of band loyalty to sing their praises all the time, even in the face of any negatives I might encounter.
And for all those happening upon this blog for the first time, or just feel the need to vent that I write a lot about TRIBE note some facts; this is the band I play with and this is my blog so my opinion will be centred among my interest which happens to be TRIBE. When I opine about Island People their supporters say that I do not play with the band and thus should not have anything to say about them. While I will continue to speak about all the bands it is important to note that you cannot please people wheter I talk about TRIBE all day or about other bands therefore at the end of the day I will seek only to please myself. Secondly, there is content on this blog that includes all the bands that have launched so far and even those on the cusp of launching. I have been to and wrote about Ronnie and Caro, D Krewe and Harts as well as I give updates on Island People as the information is forth coming. At this point the photos of Harts costumes that I took at the mas camp are the only ones you can find online since their website is yet to launch!
I cannot write about a band that has not launched so when other bands start launching the focus will shift to them; as I did last year I intend to visit all the mas camps I can, take a look at the costumes in person and state my opinion. So to all those fed up of hearing/reading about TRIBE you can return after the 18th when I will have photos from Island People's launch and a whole new set of costumes to critique!

Ahhhhhhhhh what kind of torture is this?!? I can't view flash on my PC! And the dialup version is still old! Why are Tribe doing this to me!!!!! My heart can't take it any longer!
website design is really nice and suited for the band's theme...buh oh lawd it slow!!! jeez and i on a fast network connection! i can jus imagine how much worse it might get when hundreds are trying to register at once! :(
i am having palpitations at the lack of back of ALLLLLLLLL de costumes i like!!! lol gyul is squats lunges and everything in between like mad before February yes!
no prices, no frontlines....what's up with this?? Honestly I would have preferred a simpler website, with focus on pictures and pricing etc...all this flouncing and dancing around and links that lead to nowhere is frustrating
analiesef, I was seeing the backside of the female bottom pieces for the first time, and yes, yes, yes it's a buns masters explosion on d road with TRIBE's "Myths and Magic" 2K8! Lord fadder, divine :)
anon 9:29, it looks like you have a bit of time to go to the gym and ting, get ready, the prices go come in time ;) Lol. Oh, the links works for me rel fast, and I see some nice section interpretations for the men's costumes (but the surfer shorts, my persistent pet peeve right now.)
I agree with Anon 9:29....Useless.
I love the look!
Hello TRIBE:
Athena is NOT Goddess of the Chase nor has she ever been. The correct goddess is:
ARTEMIS (Greek)
DIANA (Roman)
I love allyuh, but please DO NOT put erroneus info up on your site. It makes your organization look like it did not effectively complete its research. I hate to be anal retentive, but I'm a stickler for accuracy; from TRIBE, IP, TR, Ronnie & Caro, Orville Redenbacher, Peter, Paul, & Mary. I want allyuh to look good, but this makes it hard. :S Yuh done know that PLENTY are envious of your success. Don't shoot allyuh selves in de foot.
Thanks,
Mgmt
This is all the sections? Is either some missing or I was seeing things at teh launch? Some of the costumes have some very nice and intricate details. I love the accessories. I agree with prettidolli, get the info correct, it shows that you did not do through research, which may have been the case on some sections. But that is another kettle of fish. The band is still stunning.
A fab website, but God it slow and I could do without the models dancing up on the screen, I so wanted to see the costumes fast, but had to wait. Some music would have been nice too.
dat model deh use for Amalthea real bend up. She doing a disservice to that costume. Tribe should try to get models with a little bit more meat on their bones, some of the costumes look horrible on those models, even the dummies in the mas camp showroom look better. I am a size 2 but have better porportions because I am a bit shorter. Either they use short slim girls or tall nice bodied ones. Agin not all the models look bad but Amalthea, I would replace her before she ruin sales. Nice girl probably but not for that costume!
oh and the guy, same thing! My husband said dey need to feed he!
Oh gosh prettidolli, dais a big run in de stockings right dey. LoL. Hear dis nah, all of Orville Redenbacher pop corn does pop in meh microwave oven, and none burn. The man does his research. Lol.
Seriously, you were quick to point out a glaring error of research accuracy. The intrepretation of Artemis in the costume for Goddess of the Chase is fantastic, but if the costume was to be an interpretation for Athena it is a miss (Athena wears gold armor). Great catch! That's why nobody o pin nion or "fact" check is valid before accuracy matters dolli put a checkmark! ;)
TRIBE spent all of 2007 mas money on that website.
i was reallly tryin to hold meh tongue about the models, but since Anon 10.47 open up the floor, i wanted to put in meh two cents.
I agree a little with anon about having more meat on the bones. I like looking slim and fit, but in tuth and in fact, i think many, if not most of Tribe's costumes this year are flattering to a more curvy body. Dem costumes woulda raise pores if they had even slightly more voloptuous models. For me, it actually changed my opinion about som eof the sections. Goddess of the Chase for example, lost a few points for me, even though it was one of my favourites.
Isis frontline as well had a goegeous model at the launch. She really brought out the sexy in that costume...where is she?
A little more thought into which costume suits which model would have improved the overall thing.
and please ppl, i not tryin to be a hater or negative, i just wanted to voice my opinion like everybody else. I think tribe really has some fantastic designs this year, but they almost pull the rug from under their own feet, by poor model/costume match up.
LOL @ Dougs and Anon 11:04....Allyuh cracking meh up tonight!
I STILL LUV U TRIBE! :D
But if someting wrong it wrong. :| Sorry if ah cranky, it's due to lack of rest. :(
Tribe clearly did not think about the fellas who playing mas. The male costumes so prehistoric. It looks so plain and as if no creativity went into it. Tribe has to realise that is not only my costume i have to buy is me and my girlfriend. And so are lots of other guys out there, the costume decision making is not only for the girls. Last carnival i was satisfied with a big headpiece and very good detailing. Now i not seeing anything like this in this for next year. Are there even any Male Section leaders...
I feel as if Tribe placed fellas priority for drinking alco first and costume second....
I am lovin the site!!! :-)
-Brownin
Ah said it before and ah'll say it again. Ah don't envy allyuh at all, at all, AT ALL!!!!!
Prettidolli here's another...a water nymph is NOT a Siren!
In Greek mythology the Sirens were sea deities who lived on an island called Sirenum scopuli. The location was described to be surrounded by cliffs and rocks. Seamen who sailed near were decoyed with the Sirens' enchanting music to shipwreck on the rocky coast.
In Greek mythology Nymphs had important roles. They were the main nature beings of Ancient Greece. There were three major water nymph groups. They were: Naiads, Oceanids, and Nereids. There were also many subwater g roups of Nymphs. Nymphs hardly ever wore clothing. Nymphs such as the water Nymphs depended on their home for survival. For example, if something ever happened to a water nymph's body of water, they would suffer along with it. They were NOT immortal. The closest they came to immortality was the fact that they lived a long time. Much longer than any mortal would hope to live. They spent most of their lives falling in love, running through the forests, having fun, stuff like that. Nymphs often fell in love with mortal men. Sometimes they married them, sometimes they were rejected. Also, lots of Nymphs gave birth to Zeus's children.
They did NOT lure sailors to their doom!
Again get the facts straghit!...lol
prettidolli, kudos to you for catching that error.
I ain't even get around to reading the accompanying text, I so busy maccoing which model need to wax dey forearms and ting.
This website cannbe any slower and I am not all dat impressed hopefully it aint an armand a leg 2 play wit Tribe or Island People becuz if so I goin 2 Hartz or D'krewe cuz I already kno wat sectionz I want in Both!
Saucy gyul,
i lookin at the new pics you posted for the frontlines and i notice that Goddess of the Chase is labelled 'Individual' . You think they make a mistake in the mas camp, cause i thought it was a 'frontline' costume and not an individual. this seriously affects my options.
What yuh think?
Historical Dolli to the rescue when it comes to facts! I hope they realise their error and ammend accordingly.
My peeves with the website is that it is too slow for dial up users, they need the dial up version updated and there is no music.
Anon Goddess of the Chase with the largest headpiece is not an Individual, we made sure and ask one of the Designers. That section has 3 headpiece choices including the large one which is the FRONLTLINE i.e. more than one will be made.
Thanks Saucy for the clarification. Yuh really on top of it.....lol
This website is terrible. It is too slow and you cannot really see the costumes in any detail. When you click on the links it is next to impossible to decipher if the website is responding to your click or just in a hang mode. Some of the links go nowhere and to me, it was just a monumental exercise in frustration. As a foreign masquerader, all I want are clear pictures of each section and the price. All the erroneous information should be secondary to making the process painless for your potential customers. Please do better.
The website is meant for High Bandwidth connections, and there is a low bandwidth version launching soon.
There are many websites out there that have the very same high bandwidth requirements, and not all offer low bandwidth versions like Tribe does either. Also,Load the site once, and everything is cached.
Welcome to the 21st century.
Individuals that have problems viewing Flash videos (or who don't even know about youtube) or complex sites because their machines are slow, will naturally also have problems with the Tribe site, and this ain't Tribe fault. If the extent of your websurfing is checking hotmail and facebook and you using a 6 year old machine, use the mobile site. The site responds quickly on my machine and with my connection it loads as quickly as other similar graphical sites. Can those that are complaining even look at youtube videos with realtime streaming (not pausing all the time) on your machine/connection,or even watch a DVD with 5.1 surround?
Don't see why because they in Trinidad they must not use the same cutting edge technology that big time sites in the states and the UK use.
anon I live in Trinidad and not all areas have high speed internet connection so I can see a issue with locals accessing the website. I connect at 115.2kps and while it is not as fast as my high speed at work I can surf the net fairly easily as I have a dell XPS 600 with some good power!Older machines will have problems.I checked the time and when I click on a section to view it takes 7 minutes to load!!
Like I said, once the pages loaded it is saved in cache so going back to view them is easy.
I am quite surprised that so many in the US where I thought everyone had highspeed, dsl or cable access are having so much problems though.
Saucy you real good yes, "So to all those fed up of hearing/reading about TRIBE you can return after the 18th when I will have photos from Island People's launch and a whole new set of costumes to critique!" Why yuh ent just say "stay off mih blasted blog if yuh ent like it"?
Yuh know I always the 1st one to say the lil band vs band thing does add to the excitement and entertainment of precarnival vibe but last couple days I getting real annoyed cause the attitudes and comments not jokes, fun or healthy competition, according to my mother they like fly in sick n*gga bamsee.
I have a highspeed connection so it wasnt' that slow but when you're sitting there inspecting each and every costume, I find it gets annoying not to be able to go straight to the costume gallery but be stuck waiting for the virtual model to do her lil theatrics. They really should add a skip intro option or something.
i am loving silver mist even more! the model worked it and i plan on working it the same way come carnival tuesday, God willing!
squeezle, the girl modeling silver mist looks hot! but she did not wax her forearms. check the arm piece shot, lol!
Not all have DSL and High Speed connection here in North America. I know of 2 people who don't and another who has no internet service at home at all. I did Ancient History as a major and I find there is alot of wrong information both in imagery and information. Clearly not enough adequate research was done. The women's costumes are very pretty, it's just the accuracy is off. And the models could do with some 'beefing up', especially the girls and the white guy. The guys costumes are not all that great. Is like they were after thoughts. And the Peter Elias section is very boring and the guy's costume or lack of is puzzling.
Sister Sarce.. you rock. Waste not your energy on negative stuff. I will save this post and send it back to you around this time next year ;)
That said, AAHHHCCCHOOOOO!!! Girl like my H.O.itis getting worse!!
Blog on Sister!
Good Mawning Fabulous Mas Jumbies,
@ Pix: I absolutely agree with you. TRIBE could take a page from Harts and really do something spectacular for the fellahs. I too was disappointed that there were no male section leaders/individuals. I like to see men getting on all gussied up & sexy like only TRIBE men can!
@ Anon 12:53: Rock on with your bad self! I also picked up on the discrepancy with nymph, but was too tired to bytch any further. I became pissed b/c TRIBE has a worldwide base and can't afford to look foolish...Not with the prices they plan to charge! Is not ah set of igrunt, back-o-yard Trinis who does jump with them you know....I see you know your Classical Mythology as well. Kudos to you! :D
@ Squeezle: Thanks, girlie. Have you selected your Harts section as of yet? Yes, ah lil' hand creme and depilatory cyah hurt ah chick, uknowwhati'msayin'? Use it ALL OVER, not just de underarms & legs eh!
@ Anon 1:00 AM: I HEARD THAT!
@ Madame Sarce: There is SO MUCH confusion re: Goddess. If everything was enunciated/narrated @ the launch, this problem wouldn't exist. This makes it seem like one big hodge podge affair. I detest when foreigners see our land as backward due to errors like these. TRIBE prides itself in being "innovators in de mas" (Dean's words, not mine) and even mention this on the website. The proof is in the pudding. No more lip service, especially if folks are expected to pay elevated prices. Accuracy goes a long way and shows that you take your presentation seriously. I want to see this in ALL Trini bands, it is to their ultimate advantage to do so in providing the ULTIMATE Carnival experience. That's all I'm saying.
@ Natasha: Lawwwwwwwwwwd. :o :S
hotandgroovy, bless that you are loving Silver Mist even more! I believe the costume, both frontline and backline, is quite daring and avant-garde. I love this costume the most from a design point of view! (this is absolutely one of the best wow costume I observed for "Myths and Magic.") At first, the comments about the "fur" sunk my heart just a tad, but some are finding on close inspection that its not a rough "rug" feel atall (pray for sunshine all day though -a lil passing cloud drizzle is ok- I doh really like to see soaked fluffy, puffy, "cotton like" material on parade :) )
Yes indeed, do your thing with this costume!!! I expect confident and daring hot women to work the frontline!!! Oh, note: for frontline, silver boots ARE a MUST imho. ;)
The site is very nice. I really enjoy having the live models, for those of us who can't go down to the Cascadia Hotel, it is a very nice touch!
historical dolli, I registered my boyfriend and myself in Apocalypto. And the thing that really sealed the deal for me was the men's costume!
Many people (myself included) believe that Harts really outdid themselves with the male costumes this year. So I'm looking forward to seeing my sweetie all decked-out!
"...Accuracy goes a long way and shows that you take your presentation seriously. I want to see this in ALL Trini bands, it is to their ultimate advantage to do so in providing the ULTIMATE Carnival experience. That's all I'm saying." Hear, hear (applause), prettidolli. Love you lots for saying that!!!
This takes my heart to, lady dolli: "...I detest when foreigners see our land as backward due to errors like these."
These statements are exactly how I feel. When I realized that Trinidad and Tobago Carnival is culturally relevant and vital (being a child imigrant and Trinidad born, I discovered this well into my adulthood on coming back to visit), I nutured a burning desire to share this love and vitality with the world. But I did look around and realize that some of it my not be worldclass ready, yet (thats NOT a putdown, but my realistic assement). We can only push for steady improvements everywhere and ALL levels (including making mas from nothing), and NEVER kill its soul. I am sooo proud of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival!!!
Appreciate the culture people. Its your rich legacy. Its your art! Bless.
Why is it that the 1st year i decide to play with tribe all this drama goin on and they seem soo disorganized .I think what happened is tribe wanted to be the 1st set to launch and grab everyone's attention 1st but weren't fully prepared. As dolli said accuracy is important. I as a masquerader, am getting a little frustrated with tribe and how they have organized themselves, they need to be all little more organized before they turn egger masqueraders off. And i agree with Anon, male masqueraders are at a disadvantage with these last thought costumes. they really can do a lot more for the fellas. But honestly 2k7 costumes were more creative and appealed to every body type and age as compared to 2k8 it really only appeals to smaller persons.
Just my opinion,
mimi
Now I love TRIBE and all but sometimes I find they do the unnecessary. All of these models prancing around is not necessary...we saw enough of that at the launch. And then I have the DSL and it is still taking long to load. Steups! I feel if TRIBE take out some those prancing models the things will move faster!!
And in case you're wondering why i haven't commented on the costumes yet...its because it''s taking so long to view them all...sheesh!!!
LOL @ Marisha:
Yes, it's a nice website but there most certainly is a lot of fluff. Beauty in conjunction with smoke and mirrors, but that's all inherent to their mystical presentation, isn't it? Loads of Myths & Magic! :D They've got chicks doing Tai Chi, Billy Blanks, posing like She Ra alllll sorta shyt and fawt...A knucklehead like me knows how to separate the wheat from the chaff. I did like seeing how the beads moved on Black Magic though. Please provide a skip intro button, I've had enough. What I went on there to see wasn't even on there...So I'll do it like Wendy's. All I want to know is:
WHERE'S THA BEEF?
Just tell meh what I need to know! :D
I am in Florida and have high speed internet but flash is blocked for secruity reasons on my network (not everyone wants hackers and viruses) so really I think Tribe made a mistake basing their entire website on flash. And I don't hold out much hopes for the dialup version, it still has the costumes from 2006!
One thing I forgot to say is 'thank you' to you for all the detailed info on the costumes. I live in Australia now and frankly, the website sucks...so it's good to get the real info from you because that certainly helps me with my selection! Keep up the good work Saucy!
The site is not all flash but a mix of html and flash. It would be difficult to provide the same level of visuals without flash.
I know the video's take some time to load (look at Pixie Dust and Mystique vs the others) but it is optimized for broadband.
A low bandwidth version should be launched soon. I'll see what can be done about a skip video button.
Gad. I thought after last year that they'd cut out some of the bloat on the site, but it's only gotten worse!
I have super broadband and I have been waiting forever for the damn thing to load. And I'm not feeling the stripper-zoolander-esque moves I have to watch every time I try and view costumes. And somehow I keep landing on the welcome page every time I click on sections. Nice one. To hell with this nah. It's been a good half an hour of my time and I still haven't been able to view a section.
Perhaps they should put more effort into their cookie-cutter costumes instead of trying to woo us with a website. I love my mas, but do we really need all this fancy flash and graphics for a couple of bikinis attacked with trim and a glue gun?
Saucy, you win girl! I find Tribe should pay you a little something because you are providing information on their presentation far more efficiently. If only I could register through you instead of their blinkin piece of crap site!
Pleased to see the dialup version of the site is running now! Though the costume pics are still 2006! (Yes, not even 2007!). If anyone at Tribe is listening - please update that to new pics and details of options available! I'm also hoping registration will be possible through the dialup version or will be STUCK!
The dial up version is fully Myths and Magic..so option B for those without high speed access.
the bottom line is and what everyone is saying is that it is extrememly slow, you have time get pregnant, give birth and send de chile to college before it finish download.
