Though I attended Trevor Wallace's media launch which was held on September 13th, the actual showing off costumes was delayed by over two hours and as a consequence I left without hint of a sequin or feather. Unfortunately I do not have any patience for tardiness especially at a private event held for the media, sponsors, friends and invited supporters. At the very least starting on time is just plain courtesy to those who took time out of their schedules to make an appearance.
Anyway, the website for Trevor Wallace's "Nautica" is now up and running with photos of the 10 sections which will be portrayed for Carnival 2008. Nautica is a fully all-inclusive band competing in the medium category. The prices are not bad at all, $1595.00 to $2400.00 (frontline) for the ladies and $1500.00 to $1950.00 for the men. Overall the costumes are okay, personally I think some of the headpieces look a bit dated and the bras lack decoration , however I like the sailor theme for the men in some of the costumes and the fact that a few sections designs are "different" using pants and fabric as opposed to beads and a bikini.
Of all the sections I am liking Port of Seduction, maybe because the headpiece looks so much like a cross between Ronnie and Caro's Chutney, Island People's Zebra and TRIBE's Goddess of the Chase. Please visit the website for more information on prices and Trevor Wallace mas.

Ummm, why do a lot of the tops look like straight up bras from the drawer? I am gonna need some beads or feathers or something to put up against that! LOL
HI SAUCY
Looks to me like TWA has split from Wayne Berkley or what?
This is the worst the band has looked in years, ever!
the theme is cool but the costumes just look standard, and 90's is.
not good no!
i'm mad that these are presented on a black background.
i'll go check the website now maybe they look better there...thnx.
well if they trying to pull off a ol mix with new look, they surely succeed. to me they're costumes remind me of the small island carnivals where they use alot of fabric and not enuff beads.
however, the prices are very pleasing. good luck wallace!
hmm maybe i am looking at the wong things; but I think these designs are solid!
The may lack alot of the fru fru that we have become accustomed to; and because it a nautical theme, I can understand why there are no feathers. I think it's only Tribe, Ronnie and Caro, and IP find it necessary to put feathers on fish.
I have been a designer for year and chances are if you have been playing mas for the past 5 years you have done so in one of my costumes, or one that I had inspired (irrespective of you band of choice).
Like most bands this year, I think that they have good stong concepts put maybe there execution needs some work, and with minor tweeking we can get something that would bother please the artist, and be comercial muscle.
But all said and sone, I love a sailor mas mama!

Hey Addae I sent you an email on TABOO and no response.. what's going on with the launch?
Anyway, you must have missed "What Lies Beneath" TRIBE's 2006 presentation.. there were no feathers on ANY of the fish; I remember being very sad that there were FEW feathers on the headpieces, with only Nylon Pool and South Sea Pearls having feathers!
Hi Saucy, I'd get back you soon, I had bee out of the country promoting..
I promise you'd be one of the firts to know.
Now on this band, I honestly don't like the reviews the band is getting here.
But what is even more interesting, if you look closely at the construction of the costumes, and their concepts you'd find some similarities to something else often displayed on this site.
Sitting with Trevor Wallace tongiht chatting at his mascamp, and giving him my views on the band's presentation. He educated on who the designers were; now I am willing to say who it is, but I wouldn't (unless asked) for fear of being seen as uncouth.
Which would lead me to what I always say, design and execution go hand in hand!
Now with respect to Tribes 2006 presentation, I absolutly love the fact that there were little feathers, but I thought that there should have been none; and many bandleaders/ designers (myself included) fall prey to, and are creativly bound by feathers, beads, and bikini and the desire to put more!
The most valuable advice I got in this business was from Penny Afong who was the Administrative Director of the now defunct band Barbarossa (also wife of Richard Afong the Bandleader, and then president of NCBA), "Mas is more than just dropping some more beads on a bikini."
anyway saty blessed people

Hi Saucy
All de bands offer an online option to pay. What happen to TW? They need to get with the times if they want to attract people who do live in Trinidad. You cannot have an online website with no online payment? PPl like to follow ting and cah keep up with modernization.
