Fast Track Confusion!!

Well seems like TRIBE's infoblast has caused some confusion among many masqueraders. As I understand it the deadline for ANY pre-payment on your costume, wether via Senvia or at the Mas Camp is December 31st. If you pay off your costume in full by this deadline it puts you in the fast track line come collection day.

However, if you do not pay in full your next opportunity will be when you collect your costume. As far as I can tell from that email payments in January will not be accepted EXCEPT on collection dates which will be revealed in a later email.

Now, I am guessing that the mas camp will be closed during the month of January for preparations since Carnival is so early and the band is sold out. The last week of January is Carnival week and the week when costumes are normally distributed anyway.

People were not paying attention when I kept saying that there is only ONE paycheck between now and Carnival!! So, scrape up your dollars in December, explain to people they will be getting no gifts for Chrisnival and pay off for your costume ONLY IF you want to be in the fast track line. If you don't care about lining up on collection day, don't sweat it, you still have the option to pay for your costume when you collect.

I was confused by this email! lol
I don't arrive in Trinidad till Tuesday 29th January! I hope I don't miss the collection date, because I won't be paying before hand, mainly because it's way more expensive with senvia!

interesting.

well, from a business perspective, I totally understand the motives behind presenting this option as an incentive to get more revelers to pay off their costume.

I suppose, the band uses some of that money to pay for materials and labor to construct the costumes and pay for the costs of keeping mas camp open and lit.

it is a system that benefits those who plan early.

I follow American TV personality financial planner Susie Orman pretty closely and she is really big on not giving institutions "interest free money"... meaning that even if you have the money to pay the Internal Revenue Service, for example, for your taxes and can opt to pay in quartly payments through the year. DON'T DO IT!

Instead, but the money into an interest bearing account and then take out what is due in one lump account closer to the tax deadline and keep the interest that has been accruing for yourself. Depending on how much you owe, you could put a downpayment on a little vacation with the interest that has accrued.

I was thinking of doing the same thing for the balance of the $1000+ me and hubby would have had to pay for our combined carnival costumes. ..so I'd have to calculate whether the extra interest that would have accrued between December 31, 2007 and February 4, 2008 would be worth the early withdrawal and avoiding a long line...

but alas, that is NOT a consideration this year anyway! Ha!

Food for thought.

Little known fact is that if you miss your collection date, you can collect your costume the day after, even though the distribution is for another section.

Other than that you will have to join the masses on Carnival Saturday, the day designated for overseas masqueraders and anyone still to collect. Be warned, that Saturday is crazy!!!
