One of these things looks somewhat like the other...

One of the ladies who collected her Isis B costume was quite unhappy with the headpiece, added to which is the fact that she was told no ear-rings came with the costume when the ear rings can be clearly seen on the website and in the closeup photographs I took at Cascadia where the costumes were displayed:

Headpiece as advertised:

Headpiece on collection:

Look carefully, the ear rings are on display:

The headpiece is definitely smaller, as an entire row of coque feathers was left out and the coque/rooster feathers to the top of the headpiece is much sparser than what is advertised on the website. Now, I have no problem paying for something when I know I am getting exactly what I paid for. But paying the high prices for these costumes and being shortchanged in the end is getting a bit tiresome.

When a masquerader makes a deposit on a costume come registration, they enter into a contract that they are paying for what is advertised. Seems like only "certain" sections are indeed getting the exact costume as advertised while others take creative license and change the design to suit without giving the masqueraders an option to accept or deny the changes.

Last year I was SHOCKED when I saw the section Majorette on the road and the large back pack that was displayed on the website was reduced to an infantile version. If I were in that section someone owed me a refund!!

From my observation it is the "special", "private" or "outside" sections that are guilty of this practice (I hear no complaints about Monique, Gail or Lana's sections) and I think TRIBE's management needs to step in and do some quality control. These private sections must be held accountable for giving the masquerader exactly what they advertise. I cannot even begin to express my displeasure over what I have seen of "Silver Mist" on Carnival Jumbie's blog, but will withhold further comment until I actually see what masqueraders in that section get in their box today. Several of my friends are in that section and I would hate for them to be disappointed with the final product.

So, shame on the designer of Isis B who has robbed masqueraders of a full, glorious headpiece AND the ear-rings they should have gotten as part of the package!

Oh father, I getting worried now. I hope when I go pick up my water nymph costume they don't mess round cus the costume already sparse enough. What will they do...make the head piece into a skull cap with one feather in the middle? Money don't grow on trees you know *sweating bullets* :-S

I really would like to know whats up with TRIBE this year :/
they are really messing up!!

Well Aneyeball, water nymph is Gail's section and as Saucy says she heard no complaints so far from gail/momique/lana sect.

But TRIBE need to get their shite together whether its special sect. or not.

Dam, that headpiece looks like its starving, how unfortunate!

I have to say I found my black magic was what I had seen on the website and the pictures I took. It's comfortable and everything in between.

This is really really really sad, because I do love TRIBE but this has become embarrassing.

wow, i collect my costume last week, didn't get earring either but i didn't bother cause it didn't matter to me (wasn't fond of the earrings advertised anyways, and i doh usually wear the earrings that come with the costume in any case).
Isis B looks very different, very little similarity to the actual headpiece that was on display.

Thus far, form the costumes that i've seen and gotten feedback about: Titania, Lady of the Lake, Autumn Sprite and Black Magic all look like and match what was previously advertised and shown in the launch and on display.

Saucy, can you post about ISIS A? I picked up my costume on Monday and I am supremely PISSED OFF. The advertised costume was GOLD, and I feel like Tribe is trying to insult my intelligence by giving me that piece of crap in a fancy box. The costume I received is made of a very matte, off gold, tan-ish cheap fabric. It is obviously of an inferior quality to the fabric I saw with my own eyes in Cascadia in August. My bra does not fit right, and the straps are too long (and ugly).

I should not pay $3299TT, only to look at my costume and say "What the F***??". It's getting sold. I'm not condoning Tribe and their robbery racket.

Ok, so yuh know I set like a Mapeepee (if that is how yuh spell it) for this evening. Carnival Jumbie I will be there at 5:30 SHARP! And alls I know is, they better have some extra fur to fill in that bra!

If I liked the idea of paying for one thing and showing up on collection day only to be surprised when the box opens to something else, I woulda played with Island People!!! Yes, I said it!

Damm, somebody should come up with a sweet title for this situation. silvermist - showdown - outrage from masqueraders! I wish we could set up a camera and online live feed and crap like tmz.com and host it live from the event - the showdown..

OK Mistysilver

Leave IP out of this mess, yes they have their organizational problems (and bra fitting problems) lol but their costumes are ALWAYS on point. We got jewelry last year for Monday AND Tuesday, so again TRY and leave IP out of this.

IP dealing with their problems, so make Tribe deal with theirs. Sorry to hear about all the mess going on, I know this takes the wind out of people's sails.

Good luck later. Carnival Jumbie I'll be patiently waiting your review.

Peace

Wait is the piece that comes down to the eyes there on that headpiece? It looks like it's just a headband now.

This goes beyond the throes of "we got jewellery last year". This is a matter of consumer principle.

Both bands seem to be having their issues, now and in the past. Tribe, I am totally disappointed in, because I was not expecting this at all. IP, yes they have dealt with their problems in the past, and that is HIGHLY commendable, but it JUST might have something to do with the MILLIONS of emails that I received between Carnival 2007 and now of their HORRID customer sensitivity training. Essentially, they could no longer ignore their issues: they didn't have a choice but to buck up, because they lost a lot of their loyal masses .
If Tribe don't improve, they could see that shift going right back to IP.
We'll see how the plot thickens...I am praying for my blogging family and my girlfriends who followed the path of the Silver Mist.
Quite unnerving series of events.

If the band's don't already have disclaimers on their sites stating final costume materials may not be exactly as pictured, & the band reserves the right to alter their design, they should.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Kara I have yet to see that disclaimer!!

Oh and the issue is not about ear rings per se eh, it is the BIGGER issue of not getting what is advertised after you paid your hard earned cash!!!

I have to say that IP has made a big improvement with their organization. They have continuously kept the masqueraders up to date with the distribution process and when I email them with any questions in reference to the mas, or fete tickets, they have responded. I think people need to stop putting down the bands and deal with the issue at hand...Tribe is currently dealing with some stuff and hopefully the issue can be resolved so that everyone can have a great carnival.

That really sucks what they are doing to people. People take their hard earned money and pay for something that looks captivating to them and hopes it will look gorgeous on them. They want what is advertised...they planning for what was advertised. And it is flipping heart wrenching to get some mediocre crap! That happen to me once when poison was in business with "D Duchess" section..they tried to skimp on my sisters bra since her breast are large(36DDD). And they tried to give me a mans bike shorts instead of a womans boy shorts! We had to raise all kinda hell in there but guess what..it was 10pm and they had to go pick up they seamstress bring her in and they fixed my sisters bra and they sewed me a pair of shorts from scratch! How yuh like dat!
