The place to be tonight....

By invitation ONLY:

I know many people are waiting patiently to see what this new band "Element" has in store for Carnival 2009 ; looking forward to the "introduction party" for what I am sure will be a very interesting evening.

P.S. Please do not think you can copy the invite, the real thing is not plain black and white!

Hey all,

It's my first time on this blog! How exciting!

I saw the invite for ELEMENT. I however do not really understand why the invite says it's an introduction party for their bandleader and logo????? Wierd!

well it's all very very preliminary spicy. i think they are trying to establish committes and forge PR links. so far they're telling people that it's the 'production manager' from TRIBE.

That 's true quicksilver. I would welcome the introduction of any new band provided that their services offered are up to par. But what I think is important is that if you are attempting to forge PR Contacts etc, it should be done on basis of introducing the new band as a fresh new concept, and not to the discredit of another band. I wonder how the launch would be..interestin..

I agree with Spicy.. just divorce the prior relationship with TRIBE and tell us why we should consider Element and what they are bringing to the table.

True Saucy. And unfortunately what I am hearing is that TRIBE Management is not to be allowed or not to be permited to enter the Introduction Party. Now not all rumours have truth to them, but if there is some 'ELEMENT' of truth in this, I must say a new level of competition has arisen. This is unfortunate.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Well considering the composition of Element I would think TRIBE management would not even bother to go to this party! lol

Saucy,

Haha Saucy you have a point as I understand that the committee members of ELEMENT are also blacklisting anyone affiliated with TRIBE, and there is some outright hostility being displayed Bearing in mind that Trinidad is small, and the nature of 'Carnival' itself should involve some level of civility amongst competitors, I am of the view that bandleaders should dissociate themselves from this type of attitude. ELEMENT is leaving much to be desired at this point haha. Have you decided if you are attending?

Ooh I may most likley not go but hoping I can make it :)

Oh lawd I go dead, Saucy I love how yuh tell the ppl doh play they copying the invi.lololol
I would have to agree with a few comments though.Element seems to be creating a great deal of hostility amongst the competing sides that I think is unecessary considering that they eh actually get off the ground yet.It would be in their best interest to have a good working relationship with other members of the carnival community as they are the ones who have the contacts and an established business relationship. If TRIBE was really bad mind i decide to dutty Element waters.....they may find themseleves shut out of the game.I just want to macco later yes.

Ahahaha Sauce yuh bad to call ppl out about printing off the invitation :D I hope you or Carnival Jumbie decide to attend the launch though!

As it currently stands, I find the LAST thing Element should be doing is polarizing individuals from attending their media launch..what kind of foolishness is this I hearing atall!
Spicy, I cosign your arguments..I understand that, cumulatively, the new members/leaders/businesspeople of this "Element" band have a lot of experience, of which they should be proud. Nevertheless, they have to realize this is a NEW band, with NEW PROSPECTS, and in need of NEW MASQUERADERS.
Therefore, they need to adopt a NEW attitude.
But that's just me yo!

Hello people. Couldn't help but jump in. All this talk about who committee is who committee is stupidness. Trinidad is a small place. I personally know some of tribe's committee and they were either on pier 1 or coconuts committee first. You can say that Tribe is a Mas band and these are clubs but TRibe also have carnival events as well under Tribe's name, or Red Ant's name or Drunky Munky's name. They are all the same thing. Sources told me that the reason that some of Tribe committee members flew away is because these people had to pay for their costumes or were either given discounted costumes for pushing the band. Can you imagine working for a company and you have to pay them to work for them. They might have good service but seems like their Human Resource Management sucked.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

patee don't forget Jamboree Commitee!

Did these committee members who had to pay for costumes do anything except work at TRIBE's events and were they not paid for working these events as well?

One of my friends (by extension) was also on TRIBE's committee before she migrated out of the country and as far as I know she worked during band launch, registration and distribution and was paid for those services. She also got first dibs on registering for her costume which I believe she got at a discount, but like you said she did have to pay for it.

Now, don't you think this is fair trade? If I am a business that employs and pays you for your services, am I then expected to give you my product free?

Well saucy, other mas bands give their committee members a free costume and in business you got to match your competetion or you are gonna have an exodus of staff. You have to be proactive and not reactive to your competition. Committee member usually have good full time jobs and do not need the money for working in mas camps or commission for selling tickets. They do this for fun and to meet people but they do want to feel appreciated.
