Monday Question Time

Today is Monday so I am once again taking questions for our band leader. This time, however, I have to limit the questions chosen to 5 (so make them good) as Band Leader did not have the time to answer all your questions at once last week and since we are approaching the start of band launches it is a very busy season, thus I do not want our Band Leader to be overwhelmed and not have the time to properly answer all the questions.

My question is one concerning the whole Monday wear issue. As a band leader, do you support this? Or would you rather see your masqueraders wearing their costume on both days?

Did someone already ask what's the deal with the return of the stage? What is your take on that and what do you know about the current entertainment complex/facility in the works? Does that comprise of two questions? Because, if not, I'd like to add who were these bandleaders who apparently requested the mass remain in the streets?

Question: Why is it hard to provide us with our actual bra sizes? It's always a problem for me when it's time to pick up the costume(I'm from the US) and the size L or XL that was ordered is still too small (I'm 36DD). I ALWAYS end up arguing with an employee just to get it exchanged (It's so embarrasing, but it happens to me all the time). I just think that since we are already paying so much money for the costume that we should feel somewhat secure/comfortable and things dont 'pop out' when jumping up in the band.

Thanks!

as an overseas masquerader it is very hard to pick out costumes from the Internet. When a costume is selected the masquerader is hoping that hopefully a replica of the costume would be a available upon recieving it. As a band leader what would you do to ensure that all masqueraders get their moneys worth out of a costume?

I would love to hear a full answer on the costumes sold to overseas bands question, addressing what many bloggers said in response to the Band Leaders previous answers!

ditto, slk!!! also, the answer bandleader gave to ensure quality is not good enough...so, bandleader, are you saying that we ,the masquerders, are our own quailty control department?? where is the accountability on the bands' end in reference to quality control of the costumes...

My question is about embellishing your own costume. Now I understand that some people like to add a few tid bits to their costumes to make them stand out a bit and then there are some (Like my sister) who likes to add 5 foot pheasant feathers and beads to everything almost to look better than the frontline, but how far is too far? Do bandleaders frown upon these additions or do they hold the thought that "well the masquerader paid for their costume so now they can do whatever they want"?

Does the bandleader or some sort of music committee have any say as to what type of music is played on the road by the DJ? I thought the idea was to keep the masquerader hyped and excited on the road, but at times it seems that the same songs are being played over and over creating a very boring experience (not referring to crossing the stage). There are so many soca artists as well as soca songs and it frustrates me to no end to have to jump to the same tunes over and over. It’s also very frustrating to hear a classic being played only to have it abruptly interrupted and another song start playing.

A few disgruntled committee members of a particular big band who is about to celebrate their 5th anniversary next year told me that they were asked to sign contracts stating that they must promote their tribe only (hint) and nothing else. These committee members from this existing big band are very unhappy especially since the band does not pay them a salary and has no rights to restrict them. Some of these committee members have now left the band and the word is that much more are to follow. This comes to my question: Should a band have the right to RESTRICT their committee members from selling tickets for other parties even though there are no conflicting dates. Keep in mind that these committee members are also committee members for other promotional groups.

ditto to carnival enthusiast!!! i was really looking forward into getting into a 'zone' while on the road, and hate to say it, i wasn't really:( you are soooo right to point out that there are OTHER quality tunes from other artists that should have been played and re-mixed while on the road...i mean, is that TOO much to ask for???? i mean, i didn't hear anything from kuttit, ms. triniti, alpha, eclectic, kamau georges, not enough of kmc, issac blackman, sean caruth, traffik, etc...

wow, pepper, i didn't know TRIBE getting on barbaric...that's not cool at all!!!

"committee members" are those directly involved in producing the band or just those people that sell tickets and their names are written to the back of an invitation?
