Wild Ants? Ants? Flag Like Ants? If you don't know Machel dropped a new tune yesterday, the one we were all waiting for as a Road March contender to Faye Ann's "Meet Superblue", and the tune is called "Wild Antz"...
I cannot be the only one who went "huh" when I heard it this morning! It actually sounds like an advertisement for Red Ants!
Oh well, Jumbie had to grow on me too so who knows....

also despised get on and a few others - although most of those songs seemed to grow on me months after carnival 2k8. maybe this song is a let down to some b/c his other 2k9 tunes seem to linger somewhere b/t disappointing and wth.

Destra's "Bachannal" is strong, but Faye-Ann's "Meet Super Blue" has a better driving bass for the road. Even so, its still going be a back to back year for a woman road march. Unless, the music mafia have something up dey sleeves ;) lol.
Machel "Wild Antz" is like sandflies... irritating (just fatigues Machel, doh dig nothing :) ) I LOVE Machel's pan song, "Magic Drum."

I hear yuh Onika, "Bachannal" is really good (we go see how things work out on the road; some rel good songs does buss on the road.) Really and truly, I never really was in love with "Jumbie" on the road, but wha I know, eh ( Jumbie was almost a complete unanimous win.) :)

This year is Destra year man. She get edge out for road march plenty times, but 2k9 has to be it for her. I LOVE this tume; real tempo and real 'bacchanal' lyrics ...
And yes Machel is still only just human. Every year can't be a hit year, but I am pretty sure the tune will grow on me at some point. I cannot deny how infectious he is.... dammit!
I am not a FayAnn diehard, but i do like "meet superblue". It still only comes in second to Destra's Bacchanal though :-)
P.S. allyuh notice we don't seem to have a consensus on the spelling of our all to expressive word? bacchanal or bachannal? LOL i vote for the former

Well i real happy that right now it have a toss up for road march. Cuz usually, I end up likin jus one song, and if it eh win..i vex too bad (last year my song was def. Faye-Ann's Get On!). This year..ah feelin 'Thusty'! In fact, they should just play d line 'I come out to get on bad, bad, bad, bad...' on repeat yes. That's all i need to cross d stage. I wasn't likin Destra's 'Bachannal' before, but since I c that girl perform for Bishops, I have been in love with that song! And as for Faye-Ann's 'Meet Super Blue' I jus love the lyrics! I love the beat!
The way I see it..this Carnival is a win-win situation for me. Jus as long as they doh play 'Wild Ants'. LOL

Onika, I agree with you about Higher Dan High! I had real love that tune and thought it was MUCH better than Jumbie. This song this year, is absolute bollocks! Steups.

hi saucy...i've been lurking for a while...dis is my first post.
I don't expect everybody to like the tune, but I listened to machel live on Red fm yesterday. so i get the concept behind the tune.
Apparently the inspiration for the song came from google earth's broadcast of the millions of people (they looked like ants...lol)who gathered for Obama's inauguration...Yeah it's really about the togetherness and unity among masqueraders on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
Hence the intro:
"BANDS ON DE ROAD LIKE ANTS
HANDS IN DE AIR LIKE ANTS
RAGS IN DE FETE LIKE ANTS..."
And i don't how true dis is but he claims that he's not that into creating songs for Roadmarch anymore...it was really upon kernal's insistence on carrying on his father's legacy... Go figure.

I love me some Machel, but this song is just not doing it for me. In fact, I'm rather disappointed with most of his offerings this year. I hope this is just a temporary lapse and 2010 finds him in better shape.
And while I don't think it will win road march (cause too many people carrying on about Blaxx and Destra - I not feeling those tunes either) my hands-down favourite break-away this year is Meet Super Blue.
I thought the same thing yesterday when I heard it for the first time... steups. My reaction was not as strong as for Mesmerized though. Which almost had me cussing it was so annoying. Machel not impressing me much this year.
Glad to see he branching out though. Like he and all realise that he could only do so much year after year. And like a true business man he is constantly creating new ways to get our money. Witness Boy Boy. Hands down the man is an entertainer. Whether the songs for the year good or not. But I really like the pan tune The Magic Drum... maybe pan is the direction he heading in as well.

I love Tusty. I am not into generic jump and wave- not because its the road we have to sing the same dam ting every year. ;) So bacchanal is out for me. Even if it have the necessary leggo. I think Meet Super Blue is better, but Tusty all the way. Come on Trinidadians, demand a song with MEAT and good arrangement to represent all yuh!
As a Grenadian, I love Jab Jab as well although it is a Jourvert song. The "hold ah gyal an hold ah gyal and hold ah gyal" have the "necessary leggo"- I love that phrase. Hoping to make it down for TNT carnival.

I was very confused last yr as well. Everyone around me hated "Get On"... and I mean HATED! (I personally found it very childish and irritating) It was such anticlimax on the road. Even "Defense" got me more hyped!
It really had me wondering if DJs really cared about what the masqueraders want, or of they have their own agendas? Perhaps a bit of "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine"

Lyrically the song tells it out loud, but you won't get that by hearing "Ants Ants Ants" then switching the station....
It's not "Higher than High" by a long shot, but "Wild Antz" and "Simply Everything" are definitely worthy of more airplay than most others this year

I've had this conversation with more people this year than any other... Please understand the difference between Entertainers and Musicians. Machel/HD, Destra, Maximus and Kes are true musicians, or at least they to as far as this country allows them to be.
I despise Iwer George and many others who can't see past the "one word repetition in the wine and jam" ...
Jeez man, push the envelope and get a little closer to music than simply a "catchy line".

Only heard the song this weekend so could not comment before. Here goes: I like it. It makes me feel like being on d road, yes it's not a super-hyper song but seriously that's not what I want on the road. I want a song that will make me move on d road...not hype me up and tire me out after hearing it 3 or 4 times. What sense will that make? I do like FayeAnn and Destra's songs but we'll see if it's a fair competiion or if it'll be pre-ordained LOL
BTW: I also was not impressed by FayeAnn's 'Get on' last year 2008. It grew on me and only became tolerable on Carnival Tuesday 'cause of a music truck that had the road mix version on repeat. I was awakened by the 'get on, Get..get on' refrain on Carnival Monday morning and that basically played till it was stuck in mih head.
Well well the soca mafia will come into play as with every year and they will determine who gets what as i was told by a promoter in December that they already plan to give faye-ann the soca monarch title the only thing that stopping that is if someone upstage the whole competition or she goes into labour...
I went to several functions over the weekend and all the dj's played machel new song and said that this will be road march..WOW!!..we will wait and see....
@empressnatts....Iwer gearing up to take that soca monarch crown ...is ah million dollars yuh know...so doh bet on faye for Soca monarch jus yet.
