please please please can you raise the thong issue??? I mean I understand people are more and more open to the idea of wearing a thong, why not. But please tell them it is NOT for everybody.
How many times my eyes were hurt by women who do NOT have the shape to wear such and it just looked nasty, or even worst , some were not EVEN wearing stockings ( was playing with TRIBE)
On Monday I saw a few wearing a thong only with NO stockings...thanks to "some" waistband on Tuesday it was less horrid but still...
I may be too picky but the "once you go thong you can go wrong" anthem I hear, this mas is WRONG!!!!!!
The previous quote was an email I got from one young lady who, as you read,was quite vocal in her outcry against the thong.
Personally I favor the thong (I have been wearing it for years) the regular bikini is almost as skimpy and rides up uncomfortably anyway.I have no problem with ladies who choose to wear the thong to play mas either, though I might tend to agree with the writer that a thong sans stockings requires a certain gumption and impeccably toned Gluteus Maximus, however I certainly did not notice any offending masqueraders that looked "nasty". As a matter of fact there were several ladies I know who did the thong without stockings tastefully, as in it did not look vulgar at all.

Saying that the thong is for only certain type of bodies is as with everything else a matter left to the discretion of the individual, but you need not be a size 2 only to wear a thong and look pretty decent! Making the decision to wear a thong, or not, in my view should be decided based on the skimpiness of the costume belt, among other factors. The thong is not to be brazenly on show, but more of a teasing glimpse beneath the beads.
At the end of the day it is all about your comfort level and confidence whether you thong or not and if one chooses the right costume to play up their assets the thong becomes a moot point. Someone wearing a thong in Spangled Cotinga (with the 6 beads covering their bum) will surely look different to someone wearing a thong in African Lovebird with the full beaded belt. So for me the matter is not about the thong really, but what I always advocate and that is knowing your body and choosing the right costume for it, thong or not.

I personally have very strong feelings on the whole thong issue, and agree with the person who emailed in.
I know at lunch on BOTH days, my friends and I saw rather a lot of women who, let's just say, would have been better off playing in a wholepiece or a tankini at the least, parading around in thongs SANS tights. Absolutely dreadful! I mean, it's one thing to be confident and what not. But don't forget, it's OTHER people who have to look at you!
I think the bikini knickers are skimpy enough for me, so yes, thongs are a moot point as far as I'm concerned. So I'll continue with the knickers. It's what I'm comfortable in, and what I KNOW suits my body type.
But another thing that concerns me, is people who wear the thongs without tights. That is grossly unhygenic. And I'm not the only one saying that. I have a few friends who are doctors. One works in a clinic and she says the number of girls who come in with infections, more often than not, caused by thongs or G-strings. Not to mention, for Carnival you're wining up on various people and sitting down at random intervals and of course sweating up a storm, all with no barrier or protective layer. Oh my! You might as well just inject yourself with a yeast infection!
I can count on one hand the amount of times I've worn a thong in everyday life. I might go brave once a year, or if I'm wearing my body-con dress or something. But for me, Carnival is not the time to be wearing a thong.
Howewver, if you're fortunate enough to have the world's most pert, cellulite and stretchmark-free bum, then I say all power to you. Just make sure you have your anti-biotics ready. ;)
I wore the normal small panties. And now I doh think I have a bad bum at all eh...but I think it takes a level of gumption to put on a thong...stockings or not! But I agree with the reader...I think u need to have a smoking hot body to put on a thong..and I don't mean necessarily a small bum..but a tight one. And please oh please...make sure u in a stockings! That is jus plain nasty!
I wore the bikini cut this year and honestly consider a thong next time. The back was sliding towards the centre the entire time, almost making it a thong, except saggy looking. I think it's because it slides against the stockings or something.
I don't like the thong with no stockings look, and I saw some girls by carnival Tuesday with NO waistband and ripped stockings across the bum. I would send in a picture but I am not sure if the pic of one girl I have was a friend of our friends so I won't do that.
I do think that the thong sometimes looks better under some of the costumes, sometimes the bikini style looks better.
I rocked a thong this yr for the first time. And without being a vanity smurf ... I think I am fit and neat enough for it. And many chicks in my section look damn hot as well.
BUT I do remember seeing at least 2 women in thongs, no tights and sorry to say they must have been a UK size 16 AT LEAST! As you can imagine, the thong was lost in their rolls, and it was nasty.
So the criteria for thong:
-fit
-tights unless you SUPER-fit with great skin!
-size 12 MAX (i know ppl wouldnt like that one)
-some class in carrying yourself is a must as well.
LOL @ DQ and Bunny....Now for the thong issue....I have no problem what so ever with them...I have never played in one and would like to do so one day...but sometimes when i see other folk in them (regardless of size and body shape)it scares me....
I can't tell people what and what not to wear because at the end of it all, if that is what makes them feel comfortable...go right ahead....once i know i lookin good (wink wink)....
There was one incident i can remember (I played with IP) where there was this nicely shaped girl....in the heavenly sky section with the skirt option...for those not familiar with it....the skirt was made out of feathers so they were more or less stickin up and not lying down......she wore a thong with no stockings.....so you saw feather and then u saw her bare tush....now....this person had a fabulous body...however...the costume looked vulgar because it appeared that there was no undergarmet at all....on top of this she was askin ramdom folk to take pics of her from behind...eeww...this of course attracted the grimy spectators and stormers....
Again people, if you choose to do these things...try to look a lil decent nah, how about sparing us the eye sore??

I cool with the thing thing to a certain extend. Im NOT talking about curvy women but really about extreme figures. And at LEAST tights ladies...
I have no issue with ladies wearing thongs on the road. I think it would be best to be under a size 12 to wear them, however, as with most things, it all depends. Just as there are some fuller figured ladies who can pull off a two piece and not always wear a tankini, I think there are some that can pull off a thong as well (operative word being SOME).
Personally, I like to be as covered as possible, it makes me more comfortable. In Trini I wear the panty (in a large or XL, that prevents it riding into your bottom ladies! Believe me, I wear a US size 4-6 in clothes!) but when I play other carnivals, I always rock a boy short. But if you have the confidence, please do flaunt it.
I must agree with the other commenters on one point: stockings are a must with a thong!
I had on a regular bikini and unfortunately i don't have the guts to wear a thong. but i disagree with MJS on the part about the whole piece and tankini. It doesn't really bother me if someone has a little more flesh around the midsection. I don't believe that you should cover that part of your body to please anyone. As for the thong issue if you have the body for it wear it but please put on some stockings.
I wore a regular bikini and it was fine for me. i don't wear tights with my costume because i don't need to (all those hours on the stairmaster make a difference, lol) so my bikini stayed in place and i always get mine at least one size bigger (since TNT bikinis are more like thongs anyway, lol) but if i wore a thong, i'd be forced to and lawd knows i can't stand tights. frankly, i'm not brave enough to wear a thong yet but i won't knock those who have the shape for it and rock it. one of my girlfriends wore hers proudly,with no tights and she looked GREAT. as far as hygiene is concerned, you shouldn't just be ploppin yuh bamcee down anywhere, even in a bikini. that's why you carry a rag/small towel to sit on and act as a barrier. let it be known though, not only larger sized women should steer clear of thongs for mas. i saw a couple of smaller chicks with more cottage cheese on their bamcee than could be deemed appropriate. with that said, i still wouldn't tell anyone how to wear their costume. if they're comfortable in a thong, by all means, wear it and carry it well. i just really wish women who don't have the body for it would think twice before putting it on...
although I wear thongs in every day life under my clothes, I have never worn 1 to play mas. I just don't see the need to show the world your bare ass, that is for my man's eyes only! I find Tribe's regular bikinis are plenty skimpy enough (I'm a size 4 but wear a LARGE panty when playin w/ Tribe!) and the panty never rides up on me. I guess I am more on the conservative side but I think wearing a thong on the road WITHOUT stockings is very slack & I have a very good friend that insists on doing it that way!!! She claims it is more "freeing" I dunno, I think it screams "attention whore"!!!

I myself have worn a thong 2 play mas withOUT stockings!!! And I looked hott! Who ent think so, do me a favor nah, DOH LOOK! I was about a size 7 US and I was not up in the gym, so I was not very toned (although I do have some thick skin!) Also I do not see what real protection tights/stockings provide.. I have a very deep hatred towards them because I have very sensitive skin and they make my legs itch. So I've always gone w/o stockings 4 de road.. And lemme tell allyuh- I does rel wine, on everybody I feel 2 wine on... And have never had any post-carnival issues 'down there..'
Furthermore, I have no issue with anyone who feels 2 wear WHATEVER 4 carnival. If ppl are going to say that some1 above a size 12 shouldn't be in a thong, then I guess I shouldn't have worn a bikini top either?!?! Bcuz the post-preggo belly was quite evident!
In conclusion, I feel that every1 should be allowed to wear whatever they chose at least on those 2 days of the year. Every other day women get scrutinized by society, can't we jus have 2 days to free up?!?! Again, I say, 'if you don't like what you see, DON'T LOOK!'

If you wearing thongs, good for you. Be brave, go confident and strut your stuff! I personally don't think all body sizes/shapes can carry it off, but that's my opinion.
I would wear it, but with stockings.
I wore boyshorts this year with both of my costumes and i do believe that they took away from the over all look of the costume. I have a big buttom and large hips even though my waist is small so the bikini panty is never an option for me. Next year i have decided to wear a thong with stockings.
I dont see a problem with thongs or the stocking vs no stockings as long as the person looks and feels FAB in their costume.
Interesting people...well I for one did wear a thong this year (IP Ocean Whispers frontline) and chose to go without tights (Tues mas only..monday I wore the lil boy shorts they gave with tights) Now, I went without tights simply bc when I put it on it actually looked awful bc the tights which was "sheer to the waist" did still have an opaque band around the waist line and crotch which with a thong looked rediculus and I refused to ruin the costume by wearing tights with lines showing under the belt. And at 5am tues mornin I wasn't findin no new tights lol..Anyways, I was about a size 8 this year and wore mas boots with a small heel for the added toned affect heels give your legs lol. I felt no less comfortable than I have in the past with the regular panty option. As far as hygiene goes.. I'm not one to wine up on randoms on the road. I like to enjoy my mas and my music winin solo..and even if I give a small wine it's just that a SMALL wine..tights no tights panty or thong I not cockin my leg up all over the place anyhow! As far as I'm concerned wearin a thong isn't slack or sayin hello hi I'm a whore..but boyshorts with tights and legs in the air does say that lol. Point being it's not about whether you wearing the thong or the panty, tights or no tights it's how you carry yourself. So yes I would wear the thong again with or without tights if I feel I look up to par lol, but I will NOT be wearing heels again..It looked great but by night fall my feet was cryin lol

Last year, I wore a thong for the first time to play mas mainly because the waistband (Goddess of the Chase) looked better without the pantyline showing. OF Course I wore stockings and can't think of doing it any other way. This year I wore a thong again (Caged Canary) and loved it!! Personally, I didn't think twice about wearing a thong on the road until Carnival Tuesday night when I used the bathroom in Jennys and ended up with a MAJOR run/hole in my stockings. By that late stage I wasn't changing another stockings so I just went home LOL. Too me thongs without a stockings is a no for me not because of body size but because of hygenic reason. I want a lil shield between me and the world hehe. So I usually wear a black g-string, my stocking, followed by the costumes thong (another issue I have is how people wear the costume panty ALONE) so I feel normal. Like I'm wearing a bikini and like I said it looks great under the tres skimpy backpieces. Next year, once I am in costume I will be in a thong!!!

To me its a mental barrier. Not so much for people sweating or u or u sitting on the ground (don't do that anyway...hence why I always have a rag or towel) but I like how it looks once its the right shade and sans runs. Hygenically, I prefer it with thong (and a thong pantiliner and a g-string panty) cause it gives yuh crotch more shielding LOL
It would appear that some folks’ opinions about wearing thongs are as strong as those who believe bikini mas eh mas at all! I DO NOT wear tights or stockings because I don’t need to and lack of them absolutely does not take away from my overall appearance. For me it will be more of a nuisance than anything else. For whatever reason you choose not to wear thongs is your business. I can only speak for myself in that I can’t ever remember having female issues attributable to wearing thongs…..and I ran marathons and the like in Texas heat without problems. I think that people can use their owndiscretion. If you feel like you need to wear stockings or not, do so, its all about you being comfortable in your own skin as well as in your costume.
Whereas with the thong issue, it is NOT for everyone. I am relatively slim and I wouldnt dare put on a thong because thats just my taste. Even if you are comfortable and think that you look good you should try to get a second opinion because I must say I witnessed some eyesores on Carnival Tuesday coming from women 5 times my size even from some of the smaller sized.
I hav nothin against wanting to look sexy but I think some take it too far. You can dress to suit your size (slim, thick, in between) and still look fantabulous!!

Like you Emprezz Diva, i wore a thong for the first time last year and did so again this year (also in IP OW Frontline) - both times with stockings. I wear a regular skimpy thong under, then my stockings, and then the costume panty. I know that seems like too much clothes to many, but even though I am in a thong i feel somehow fully clothed and comfortable (if that makes sense). Even when I wear the regular bikini bottoms, I still wear a stocking. I feel that even though it is a mesh, it definitely keeps some of the dust out. Carnival is a very dirty time.
But again, to each his own. I saw a few ladies in thongs without stockings that looked fabulous, confident, and comfortable. I admired them, but still thought "geez, i hope they doh pick up nuttin" ..lol
P.S. as far as the ugly reinforced part on the stockings .... i totally understand that and hate it also. But this is why u make a decision to either spend yuh plenty money on a seamless pantyhose or on one without a gusset. Those do exist and look fabulous!I absolutely hate to see the crotch piece peeping out on the sides of the panty.
That's why you buy tights that are made specifically for Carnival.
I must admit that the tights this year were of a pretty poor quality though. So that may account for the number of unsightly runs.
But I shall echo the sentiments of a couple others here...YOU may think you look wicked hot in that thong, tights-free. But PUHLEEZE get a second opinion! Like I said before, while you're the one wearing the thing, WE'RE the ones who have to look at you. And I'm not talking about people of a larger size. Jbunny the Carnival tights were a hot mess this year. I think I am going to hunt for an alternative. Best tights I ever used were by Benetton ages ago.

S..I'm with you on the stockings..it does make you feel like you're not completely nekked lol, but my error was pickin up 2 pairs of the wrong tights in a packing frenzy (very unprepared this year! lol) so come tues morning it was no tights or an ugly line. And I always wear my own string panty underneath...tights or no tights bc them costumes pass through many hands before it finally lands in my carnival box..and you can't wash it b4 you wear it (at least to my knowledge) or the color would fade!
