That's the sound those Indian beads/bells make when you walk by the way...

After all the licks Island People got post Carnival from some pretty pissed off masqueraders, who is anxiously awaiting the launch to choose their costume?

I know I won't be , by the time Island People showcases Kutchela I will already be registered in TRIBE, however I am looking forward to seeing costumes and what they do with the theme.

So,with two bands starting registration before their launch, who is waiting for Island People?

me too i am definitely looking forward to IP launch.

you see i don't have a TLC to play in Tribe and i absolute love Osage and Loulan which are two popular sections. By time is non TLC Registration i am positive those sections will be sold out. I ent have no links to "get me in the band" and i ent paying more that what Tribe say is the price for the costume.

I play mas four year in a row from 2k6 to 2k9 and i have never played with the same band lol lol lol.

So i have no loyalty to nobody

I play where i can afford to play in a costume that i like

Last year was different though i played with IP and i had a bawl of a time........the costume service need improvement but the road experience was impressive for me.

So IP do fasssss and lemme see what alyuh have nah man

Well since TRIBE registration is before the launch of IP, waiting on IP to register with TRIBE is gonna b impossible! My suggestion to folks is to go ahead and register with TRIBE (if yuh dat lucky) and if u feelin IP costumes more..just sell yuh TRIBE costume.

You know there will be many willing to buy that TRIBE costume from you...so no worries.

I do not understand why people will support a band that does not give value for money.

yes i agree that costumes are integral, and year after year people complain about Island People and their litany of woes are not being heeded

I played with IP the first year they came out...never me again. the mas on the road was good, but the lack or organization, people complaining about costume pieces missing etc etc, i cannot go through that again

I have no loyalty to any particular band, so it does not matter to me who i playing with at the end of the day but,if I am spending my money, to get a quality product no way i going to do so in a band that has a reputation for poor service.

In the end it depends on the person Aneka..some people are willing to spend their money in a band with great service and organization and an ok costume and road experience and others are willing to pay for ok service and organization but an azazing costume and road experience. I'm yet to have the awful experience people carry on about with IP so I cant vouch for the so called bacchanal. I haven't had problems in costume collection or on the road and had a bess costume so will I be waiting for IP launch..YES! I've never played in Tribe so I have no opinion on what a Tribe experience is like but even with all the hype surrounding Tribe I have no desire to play in the band. I've heard mixed reviews of Tribe and IP alike so I'm not migrating on anyone elses word of how great Tribe is...I'm one of those people who chooses the costume that gets me excited and honestly there isn't a costume in Tribe this year that takes my breath away so IP it is and if they costumes disappoint (which I doubt lol) then I'll reassess the situation lol.

Sauce u needed to have a "Helll no!!!" option lol. Absolutely not. I played with IP this year and their service was a new low...even for them. Improving for 1 year is not enough, they need to show they can continually offer good service for them to EVER be given a chance again.

Trinicandy, u really felt the road experience was "impressive"? Poor security, stormers everywhere...they even got drinks from the truck, hence drinks ran out early, Awful food with no lunch stop, tuesday ended early with the trucks driving off leaving masqueraders stranded in federation park...and the list goes on! This is coupled with disgustingly disorganized registration and shabby service during distribution. Yet all of that is worth it just for a "pretty" costume? I beg to differ! Nothing there was impressive.

I never understand what is SOOO damn hard in understanding the concept of INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE!! Some one needs to pull out a dictionary ask for an explanation or something so that we can finish this line of talk already. Because the way I see it if someone had a crappy experience and want to take their money elsewhere then great – sorry you had a bad time hope you have a better experience in your next band.

But this consistent pounding people over the head with "I don't know why people want to spend they money in a crappy service band blah blah blah, oh shut the hell up and go spend your "HARD EARNED dollars" where it suits you. Lawrd, I swear some people just love to hear themselves.

The fact of the matter is, if for every 100 people that had a crappy experience maybe 500 didn't, is that sooo hard to believe that the 500 wants to go back?! Obviously, people ARE going back. We all already know that negative news travels faster than positive. Look how even the die hard Tribers cussing now about the costumes, but they will still play in their band of choice, no one knocking them for that, it is after all their RIGHT.

Give it a rest already, hit NO on the survey and carry the hell on up to Tribe or where ever else you choice to go. I understand that this is a place to voice your comments, experiences and concerns, but this obsession with what other people do with their money is just crazy.

Anyway I digress, I'm not playing with IP but I am looking forward to seeing what they bring this year.

carnivaluva you see everybody experience different ehhh

i played in the section touch which was behind ray of light

i arrived very early the friday morning (i was 6th in line)to collect my costumes and i got all my pieces and everything fit super.......my goody bag had about ten items i was good with that

on the road i got ample drinks cause i wasn't to far from the drinks truck........as for lunch it was ok...i not a big eater and after dieting for carnival the food was plenty for me......i got cutters during the day and that was nuff for me......the jamishness was plentyful plentyful plentyful

(i even get a wine from somebody i "scoping out" long time from a company down the street from my company lol lol lol)

after i cross the stage on tuesday next to the truck with "die hard sounds and trevlyn" i was tired from mas monday and tuesday and i thought that i got my money worth.......so i had no problems with security and stormers

i have realized that everybody experience was different nevertheless i had a real good time in IP

trinicandy said...

anybody have any more info on kutchela.......a colour .....a section name to share

Lōča §uavїdad said...

i totally agree with trinicandy and Triniprincess....trinicandy we were in the same section and the only thing I hav to complain about from IP is costume collection cuz my friend played in Rays of Light and had to go back the next day for her headpiece cuz they "ran out" but other than that I had a time on the road...

wherever I play IF I decide to play, its MY money!!!

Trini princess

like you who are entitled to your opinion, I am so inclined...its not really a matter of wanting to hear myself speak, but given the overwhelming complaints that i have heard about IP, year after year even reaching as far as the daily newspapers where assistance was sought for some masqueraders, i think it warrants some questioning as to whether or not anybody should spend their money on a product that seems to have a damaged reputation.

your post sounds as if you are exasperated...no need to be we are all here expressing opinions.

Tote-E said...

T,

i think the fuss is that now the market has shifted to stress on the "all inclusivity" an as such people expect that they are paying for a package that is at least organised.
if it isn't complaints are bound to come up. but that depends on how a person receives it.

That's a very general statement, if you consider that maybe the "issues" in the band hasn't affected EVERYONE that plays with them.

No one is saying don't give your opinion; you did that in the rest of your post as did some other people.

The point is, maybe is not for you to understand WHY people go back, they go back because they want to PERIOD

Maybe more people will leave as time goes by and the band will disappear and there will no longer be this great mystery about "why people continue to play with such a poor service band" (in your opinion)

I'm with TriniVice & TriniPrincess. I NEVER had a bad year with IP in all the years I played with them except for last year and that was because of the security when we past the Savannah. Other than that, I ALWAYS had a hell of a good time. No problem getting food, drinks, costume, or men to wine on! My costume never falls apart, I don't have to worry about rubbing elbows with a fellow masqueraders. Just because a few people state that they will NEVER play again, that doesn't mean that EVERYONE else feels the same way and we should be committed to a mental hospital for continuing to go back to IP. I wanted to give Tribe a chance and see how their road experience was compared to IP, but I refuse to go through all that hassel for a costume that may not be available when the newbies register. So I will be waiting with excitement for IP launch and I expect Saucy to give a good critique on their presentation as always. If the costume look like trash, I will be the first person to say it. Island People in the air!!!

that too is a very general statement especially considering that i haven't pounded anybody over the head in making my statment. as i said before i was making what i felt was a valid question based on complaints heard by many...as a matter of fact i thought your statment rather rude. but again that's just my opinion

Triniprincess said...

Ok point taken, but that wasn't posted just with you in mind. You were just the last one that said it, but its been said over and over on here.

So I hereby confirm that my comment was not directed solely at you.

Also, I never addressed you in my post until you addressed me, so I don't know why you would take it as personally as I'm being rude to you.

I am a Triber to meh heart, but i must say I agree with Triniprincess on this one. I too am fedup with the questions as to why ppl want to go back to IP.

At the end of the day, it's your choice!! Y'all are the ones who have to weigh whether the good experiences surpass the bad. Do as you please.

Time to cut this bashing of IP..hopefully this yr they can get it together?

trinicandy said...

I just want to add another two cents here but by 23rd Feb 2010 there will be at least 5 or 6 sold out bands. My guess is that Tribe IP Spice and Harts will be amoung them.

So at the end of the day no matter who say what who do what people will play mas in Port of Spain and enjoy themselves and I would be wining very low in ah band

dougla_1 said...

The best band to play is Trinidad All Stars, Sailor Mas! Same ting every year; yuh cyant beat familiarity and consistency. The only accessories are excess powder and puff balls. Liquor is from the rum shop and food (the bestest pelau) is from Tanti Jean! Music is steel...pan! No stress. Now, dat is the ULTIMATE Carnival EXPERIENCE!! Fighting up to register for costume??? We eh know dat!!! Yuh mad or what? ;)

Triniprincess is right. play yuh mas, and don't worry about anybody, until next year, maybe!

After playing mas with IP this year, I was literally depressed. I left early on both days... Security poor, service poor, food -- leh we stop dey... But registration for Tribe is impossible so i guess I will have to wait and see...
