Zari Frontline

These are photos, yet to be displayed on TRIBE's website, of Zari's frontline (click on photos for larger view):

Headpiece

Without Backpack

With Backpack
The additions since the night of the launch are a foot piece as well as an asymmetrical backpack which hugs the shoulder and ends on the hip. I would really love to get a 360 view of how that works! Is the back pack two pieces or just one unit and where does your arm go? From what I have been told you can get the frotline with or without the back pack.

Since I have been accused of bias when it comes to this costume I will reserve sharing my opinion, however, what are YOUR thoughts on the completed Zari frontline? The floor is open to your comments!

I'm actually impressed with it. Not as boring as I first thought. Oh me, oh my!

Seems they took pieces from the 'It' costumes and slapped them together. Still not feeling it.

Xi Ling colours, Lou Lan's jewels and a blast from the past, the Black Magic headpiece.

*Yawns* still nothing to see here.

Saucy in case its in me pot you throwing it... lollllllling, ah like ah bacchanal eh. I just think you said it was boring.

I love it.

1. It is one of the few costumes which backline has a HUGE headpiece. And I am a HUGE headpiece mama. Doh give me tail or ting in me hand. Just put someting pon me head an ah ready to go.

2. The bra design (cage bra) is not for me, I actually like the other plain option because that means my headpiece would take centre stage.

3. Its not my favourite costume. Lots of people get attracted by the FrontLine of some costumes when they are really playing backline, I look at the backline and this backline is to me, worth the money.

I love what they did with the Frontline. Zari is a main contender. My surprise though is Serica.... its now in my top 10 (as number 9). Stay with all yuh Loulan- Xi Ling Chi, Mulberry and Charmeuse all the way, followed by Osage, Zari, Lapis, Erie (I love the grey in it)....

Loves it!!

OK, so they came back from dinner and finished that plain front line. Great.

Now, hopefully, they will update the back line so it doesn't look like people playing in that section aren't the Cinderellas to some favored stepsisters.

They can start with making sure the fabric on the belt comes right down, like the other costume, instead of just halfway. Otherwise, it looks like scraps.

Then, they can do some sort of colored beads coming from the belt instead of earrings.

Cocktail Girls have not redeemed themselves yet. Whoever they paid for that costume needs to finish the job.

I always liked the backline so amping up the frontline is not gonna change my opinion. The frontline headpiece is fabulous & I am loving the backpack addition, I've never seen an asymmetrical backpack before so I find it very intriguing. The frontline bra is very very pretty although not everyone can pull off wearing the caged bra. I'm concerned that the caged bra would be uncomfortable to wear for 12+ hours on the road. My sensitive skin would surely have bruises and scratches from this bra lol. To me the frontline belt is reminiscent of Loulan's Premium frontline belt, they should have tweaked it to make it look different.

Anonymous said...

Well it certainly looks more of a frontline than others (eg Osage and Lapiz ... I maintain that those are NOT frontline-lookin costumes! More like halfline!)

I actually really like the colour combo. The darker shades are lush!

Anyways. The only thing that I find slightly worrying is the one sided head piece. I recall seeing ppl in Black magic looking very silly in their struggles to balance that headpiece.

Anyways .. I would love one of those not-quite-frontline costumes. It all depends on the cost tho.

It is a little dark for me but I love the design. Would love to see the back though :)

Honestly, TRIBE just completely missed it for 2K10. They are trying...and trying really hard, but they really aren't putting out a production that is up-to-par and worthy of speaking of in a positive manner.

I'm a Triber at heart, and year after year, I'm anxious and excited to see what they come up with. I've never been disappointed. This is the honestly the first time that I'm completely lost for words on what they have submitted as creativity, unique, and high quality.

Hopefully, it's not too late to go back to the drawing board. Because none of it is impressive and mind blowing.

Disappointing....

P.S. At least give us more beads on the waistband... hehe

Triniaries said...

Beautiful....not a caged bra fan but it doesn't take away from the costume. Colors are GORGEOUS!!

atlhottie said...

It's HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! I LOVE it!!!!! The colors are dark but I LOVE the cage bra and the belt...skimpy!!!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!! LOL
My only question is who exactly are the Cocktail Girls???? I don't want a designer that's not proven...because it COULD be a fiasco with costumes falling apart. Saucy, anything on them?

Carnival Divaz said...

I love it. I wore a caged bra this year and loved it and will be wearing next year. I loved Zari caged bra ever since the launch, I thought that it was the best fitting caged bra at the launch. The one thing that i dont like is the fact that theres one foot piece, buy anyhoo this costume rocks.

atlhottie said...

Couldn't we ask for two foot pieces? You know, and pay the difference if they charge us?

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

Cocktail girls did Ruby Topaz this year. Kandy where did you see Loulan Frontline & Individual, were they at the mas camp?

mjsbunny said...

I think the one leg piece is due to the asymmetrical backpack (which I think is bloody original!). It's quite a substantial footpiece, so I think it offeres a nice balance.

Two would be overkill I find.

I honestly do not think that these prices are fair and have not been for years. I am not a merchant so I have nothing to support my arguments but call it a hunch. If we continue this way by 2015 these bands will definitely be catering ONLY for the elite and those foolish enough to take loans out for Carnival. If you look at any product, price is usually dictated by economy and demand. The trend in T&T is that even though economy suggests that prices should decrease they never do. This seems to be the same trend with mas. Although the demand is high these bands are still limited by the number of costumes they chose to make, so demand may be high but it is not infinite.

Kevianne said...

i like it

atlhottie said...

I thought so Bunny...

Ruby Topaz? Saucy do you have any pics of that section? What was the feedback on that section?

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

There are pics of Ruby Topaz on the blog. My friend played in it, she made the cover of the Express on Ash Wednesday and loved her costume. In fact one of the cocktail girls went out of her way to find my friend a backpack after she realized that she had chosen the FL option w/o a backpack in error when registering.

atlhottie said...

Wow...that sounds cool. I like that, I'll have to go check out Ruby Topaz..

Richard said...

I might sound bad ..but love me or hate me ....that costume looks recycled yet again being the best in the garbage pile is still garbage, if feathers are meant to compensate for the lack of originality then it win! but the gems borrowed from another section the headpiece is from two years ago......... any ways it better than the first try.

Unknown said...

the costume is not tooo bad, but obviously it is the exact jewels from LouLan, which shows no creative thinking, i don't think i have ever seen two costume from the same band with the same exact jewels, and zari used sooo much of it, they did not even try to hide it, sooooo brazen as the old folks would say. They don't even have these jewels on the backline, how does the cotume relate????!!!

I never comment on these things but it is simply tooo much, the designer of loulan must be livid!!! they have to start copywriting designs or something because this is ridiculous!!! They even have the jewels coming down the chest area the same way as Loulan's individual. And a similar foot piece!! Is no one else seeing this!!!

How the committee members can allow this is amazing too me. The designer of loulan should know that although they have copied her they can't ever be as original!!! Their accent colours of that bluish green and yellow do not flatter the gems as well as her blue, nude and gold!!! And their use of the gemstons is boadering on GAUDY!!!

NEXT YEAR SHE WILL HAVE TO KEEP HER COSTUME HIDDEN UNTIL THE LAUNCH!!! which is soo sad because they are in the same band, the should be a family.

carnivalchick said...

I am a bit confused as to y people are saying that Zari designers copied Loulan. Which was created first? Maybe I missed something... help me out here...

KANDY said...

Gems borrowed from another section. If you do not know your facts correctly then don’t say anything at all. Both Loulan and Zari has similar gems so on the day of the launch some gems came off Zari section and they used some of loulan's own to replace it at that time. They are all part of a team known as Tribe and if you do not want to help out your fellow member well that is just selfish of you since they are a part of a family. The costumes are not seen until the day of the launch. So the designers do not know what the other sections look like. Therefore, it is impossible for any designer to copy another designer’s idea. Thank you!!

carnivalchick said...

Kandy your comment made sense, I have to agree with you on this one. Well said, as far as I know there is no tension between the designers of these two sections mentioned.

It just shows though how some people can never be a part of a TEAM. Remember in a TEAM there is no I.

:-)

KANDY said...

:) thanks

bella ella ella a said...

oh and for those that think Zari's colors are dark - it's really not dark at all in person. For some reason it's translating as dark in the pics. In person it's a gorgeous, bright, rich teal color accented with green. In my opinion this color is 1 of the best in the band.

Marlie said...

Jennifer I totally agree with you that the colour is one of the best in the band (IMO) and that is why when I first saw the pics of the "old" Zari i was soooo disappointed, because I thought it almost a waste of a most beautiful, rich colour!

The wire bra looks painful in truth! lolol....

Unknown said...

dear Kandy,
i don't know if u saw the brochure that was leaked but the costume ZARI had for frontline was very different and did not have those jewels , as i heard through the grapevine i thought they actually tried to change their costume on the night of the lanuch and they actually needed the jewels not the LOULAN section maybe u need to get YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Helping is one thing but taking some else's idea is another, i would really lik eto know if the designer is happy about this, and thinks sharing the gems is all family!! I really doubt they got her blessing on this replication!!!!!!!!!

IF U DON'T KNOW ANYTHING WHY DON"T U SAY NOTHING!!!!!!

Marlie said...

whoa, it's hot in here....lol...

Unknown said...

i apologize 4 the typos i am very LIVID!!! with KANDY's comment. This is why i don't like to comment because people are so ........!!!!!

carnivalchick said...

Ayana I cant remember seeing Zari frontline in the leaked brochure. Was it 2 brochures, because the one that I saw only featured the backline.

ChicConsciousColour.blogspot.com said...

I think half of the people must be blind...Zari has copied Loulan besides the stones/gems being the same look at the belt that is damn belt as Loulan's Premie FL/ Individual. Being a copycat can only get you so far hopefully next year they won't even be designers in Tribe. You cah call yourself designers and stealing off other people...Pure MADNESS..

carnivalchick said...

C'mon allyuh serious? How do we know these are facts?

Zari copied Loulan? Please please please I wish I could find this out for sure...

Maybe I should ask Loulan designer..hmmmm

Unknown said...

hmmmm i don't remember the leaked brochure having a Zari frontline anywhere in it and neither does the brochure handed out at the launch which I'm looking at right now. It's a shame that the designers are not here to set the record straight but I can understand why they wouldn't even bother considering the tone that this discussion seems to have taken.

Congrats to the Cocktails girls on adding a little extra to their frontline. Now if only they would do something to enhance the waistband for backline!!!

Shellss said...

Hmmm...now I don't know who design what or who borrow what from what, but I must admit, it does look very similiar to Loulan...well...from these pics at least.

Marlie said...

or maybe we should ask Zari's designers - "so what was your inspiration behind Zari 2.0? Was Loulan a great influence on the re-design" lololol...

mjsbunny said...

Does it bloody matter??????

Unless ayana is really Solange, what the hell is the big deal? It's the same sodding band, and unless you getting a cut of the profits or was going to play in either section, who gives a rat's so and so??

The costume nice. I love the backpack. End of.

Steups!

KANDY said...

Thank you mjsbunny... its the same band... who cares who did what!!! People just like to bad talk and cause confusion. They are both nice costumes so forget all this who said what and who copy who and pick a section and play. goshhhh...

Anonymous said...

ok ok ok everyone have a lil bit of a point that all add up must be make sense.

Yeah, the belt has some stones that look like Loulan, anyone can see that . Thet story with stones falling out the night of the launch sound like nancy story, so it had extra Loulan stones just lying around?

The brochure never had a zari fl, the media launch had that fl one sided headpiece with the floor bra and belt then on stage the cage wire bra made a debut.

As for the facts the 2 designers are part of a team but one was not happy at allllllllll. Who say different LIE.

I just hope they put all this behind and move forward as a team next year and if the bosses who see the costumes before hand notice 2 looking kinda the same that they should steo in and say ok one needs some tweaking to make it look a lil different so there would be no bacchanal.

Unknown said...

RIA,
thanks 4 clearing it up, i knew i saw a frontline for Zari somewhere.

I know alot of people say who cares, both cotumes nice, and i guess i can relate to an extent to that. But i also know the work, time, energy and effort that goes into creating, not just costumes but like music, books, inventions, clothes even articles. That is why sooo many people end up in court suing over royalties, and credit for writing lyrics, or patents. If u go to college and copy someone's paper it is grounds for expulsion. It is just not right to steal someone else's idea and make a profit out of it, But i guess not many people think that is important, once the cotume is nice forget integrity.

I am not arguing anymore, what is done is done for 2010 but i am very interested to see what 2011 will hold for both designers.

didatrini said...

Hey Sauce, so what if u have been accused of bias? This is YOUR blog after all. Ur disclaimer clearly states that this blog is based on ur opinion. Doh worry bout being accused of bias is what I say. Say your say.

On the costume. One really has to wonder how it works indeed. The first thing that popped into my head regarding the headpiece is that I hope it is not too heavy cause that seems to a lot going on on one side of the headpiece. Overall, I think the costume is beautiful to look at but we would need to know more about the mechanics of it to see how it would all day long on the road.

Anonymous said...

I think people are being overly ridiculous with their ridicule of the designs. SO WHAT if you use the beads from another section, the headpiece from a second and the cage bra from a third? I am not condoning ripping off any designer’s ideas but have we forgotten that it is ONE band? I think the intent should be to be not so distinguishing and different that the designs do not look cohesive. The purpose of mas is to tell a story. Have any of you watched runway shows? Sometimes colors repeat, sometimes a braid or pattern repeats. The trick is to look like you are designing for one label (or in this case band) but reflect the point of view of the individual designer. Re-use of gems are irrelevant. My thing is if you buy it in bulk and it used in more than one section your price should not be so dam high.

Marlie said...

yeah, look at how much continga beads on the xi ling thing...

Tote-E said...

nice costume, but it looks brazilian.
very brazilian in design.

Air Connector said...

Well I think its pretty - and I agree that it looks very much like Loulan - but this frontline actually has the gorgeous belt as an option, while its apparently an individual's belt in Loulan. I also like the color combo. Not feeling the sideways headpiece, but the backpack is a lovely idea. I won't call it original, but I definitely like it.

carnivalchick said...

I personally think this will look stunning on the road. The colours are not dark. I have actually seen this in person.. The colours are AWESOME. lOve the diamante detailing on the bra and belt. Its not just the chunky stones on this belt..the diamante is gorgeous

atlhottie said...

LOL and agreeing with whoever said it was Brazilian..my mom said the same thing...and was like "you're not playing in that??? That looks brazilian!" LOL

Unknown said...

xi-ling using the same beads from cotinga is true, however the way in which the beads are used is very different and it does not look like the same costume nor was it done the same year.To use the gemstones practically the same way as the belt in loulan's individual, as well as the gems coming down the chest, and the foot piece, in the same year is puzzling to me, maybe it has been done before but i've never seen it.

i know sections are supposed to correspond in the same band, but foolishly i thought they were supposed to correspond to the theme, and if they do look alike, say maybe a similar colour, or similar beads that are not the same colour. Not the same gemstones, that are the same colour, used in a very similar design in the same year. I am absolutely flabbergasted.

I never said the costume was ugly just that is was not original and i do prefer the colours of Loulan, but to each his own.

Lin2K10 said...

ok Solange aka anya, you get your point across hahah. Didn't anyone pick up on the fact that this person is so passionate about something, if they were unbiased, I didn't think they would go at lengths to prove a point. It's either Solange herself aka anya or a friend...too hilarious.

Jamishness said...

Carnivalchick: Just ask Anya cause it's Solange anyways...lol

ChicConsciousColour: Everyone copies from each other. Solange copied from Sandra with the belt and she was hating on Macaw this year, yet her belt is the same. If we have to talk about copying, how about Loulan looking like BOP. It's gorgeous but it's the same tan feathers. Hmm, what else...the one that looks like Silver Mist and Xi Ling using Spangled. It all comes around

Adi: The designers are in this forum..haha. Anya just a little too worked up to not be associated with Solange and if she isn't then she really needs to take a laxative cause she's full of $&^&

KANDY said...

OH MY GOODNESS lin2k10!!! I thought it was only me thinking the same thing. Someone really needs to just get over it and move on... stop dwelling on something that happened already...

Tequila said...

hahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!! hear nah .... people in this place have to b really dumb or common sense really not sooo common anymore ... let me break it down for you all:

1. First of all when TRIBE or any band for that matter decides on their theme ... the designers are advised.

2. Each "designer" will obviously have to let each other know what COLOUR they are using so that of course you would not get the same colour in one band.

3. THE ACTUAL DESIGN of the costume is NEVER discussed NOR is it SHOWN to one another until the launch, (this is COMMON SENSE).

4. The designers will obviously have their sketches/or have done their homework with what they want to go with and ORDER they materials online (as far as i understand majority of DESIGNERS buy their materials away) ... sooooo my point here is do you all really think that the two designer sat down and said hey lets buy the same jewelsss... pllleeeaaaassssseeee NEVER!

5. IF i had a section and i was presenting at the launch any dummy and fool will carry EXTRA MATERIAL in case a disaster strikes (anything can happen).

6. Loulan is Blue, Zari is Green (therefore, gems are not the same).... so how can Zari use loulan gems ... the costume will look somewhat off.....

i mean really people ... do you really think that ALLLLLLL the costumes are original ... i mean come on they are ALLLLL recycled....

Come on you all .... Loulan is not SPICE and Zari is not TRIBE ... geeezzz wham is ah warrrrrrrr!!!!!

Unknown said...

well tequila like common sense not so common because the designers would see the costumes at the photo shoot which happens BEFORE the launch since the booklets have to be ready to hand out at the launch.

Tequila said...

My point exactly South-Reds ... the COSTUME WOULD BE COMPLETED FOR THE PHOTOSHOOT!!!!

KayaKitty said...

Quite so, Reds. And, also we know good and well that usually there is a pecking order in a design house and they would WANT things to look the cohesive and the employed designers would design accordingly under that label.

THIS is not a design house as such. Is a carnival band. And nobody is aiming for everything to look the SAME. And there are designers that are not a employees of Tribe but designing under contract.

And some are artistic and creative and want to look unique even if it is just to be unique this year. One would hope they all want something that looks fresh even if they haven't reinvented the wheel...but I guess some don't care because they feel Tribe GO SELL OUT ANYWAY and is jus a lil scrap of costume, as poster CGP has said.

I guess some view it as just businesspeople making a profit, and some view it as creative artists.

Therein lies the conflict. I, for one, think they need to respect both.

:(

KayaKitty said...

But Zari obviously was not completed, was it...? And the amount of news we see about carnival before we are supposed to right here, I think it is naive for you to believe a designer wouldn't know generally what someone else is using.

I mean, do they all go off independently and purchase materials...are all bands and designers using different suppliers? A vendor actually showed somebody in NY a costume, didn't they?

Come now...

KayaKitty said...

And I feel it probably unnecessary no matter what you believe to be calling people dumb. But, that is just my humble opinion.

(See how I didn't call you dumb even though you sound a bit naive and perhaps even under-informed...). No need to take discussion to that level. You can disagree without being disagreeable.

If allyuh want to move on, STOP POSTING and leave whoever wants to discuss to discuss.

Tequila said...

KayaKitty ah hear yuh .. but wouldn't the main bikini be completed? (come on now think about it ...)

and yes i believe that they go OFF independently to purchase their materials!!!

these two are private sections ... it is not to say they are TRIBE and i am sure TRIBE buys all their materials from the same supplier... but you really think they (i.e. the two private sections Loulan and Zari) will let each other know EXACTLY what they are buying for their costume ... NOOOOOOOOO .... again common sense man!!!

Anonymous said...

aite' is a coinkidink that the 2 designers use the same thing, I maintain that the boss, the person overseeing everybody design shoulda say nahhhhhh, cocktail girls/loulan u need to use a diff ting cause it look too close to something we have already.. a lil variety nah... break it up so masqueraders have fresh thing in each section. What so hard in that? You can't tell me that all dem costume was a surprise to everybody, somebody I sure see all before the booklet or the launch.

Tequila, I didn't think you said I was dumb. It would be common sense that you couldn't be calling ME dumb, since I hadn't posted before you said that. See how common sense really isn't that common? All a matter of WHAT you know based on where you have been and how you interpret your sense.

But, I think if you think the DISCUSSION is dumb, you shouldn't really engage in it, right? That would be my approach...

And doh worry, plenty so-called facts floating around. The question is which facts are true. If you feel facts are solid, then by all means state them as such and reveal your sources. But, even if you are one of the parties being discussed here, you would only be telling ONE side of the story ;);) ;) (plenty winks to go around.)

The only fact I need to know is that their backline is STILL HALF-ASSED, but I guess it won't change, because as CGP say... Tribe go sell out ANYWAY, so it DOH matter. If Cocktail Girls thinking anything like CGP, we in TROUBLE. Next year, it might be bra and panty alone they come out with... NO DECORATION. Because TRIBE GO SELL OUT ANYWAY!!

All I can say is I love the color, but I not wasting my money on that costume no matter how many others do.

carnivalchick said...

To be honest I dont think that Zari and Loulan look alike. I have seen the Zari frontline in person and it looks quite different from Loulan.

Loulan belt does not seem to have diamante hanging from it and the blue is a different colour. The stones are sent different in the belt as well.

The both costumes look different to me.

KayaKitty said...

I agree with Ria. Even with recycling, one would hope that within the same band's presentation for the same year, you would not have repetition. And if the designers do not know what each person is doing, the band leaders SHOULD. So...if those band leaders haven't done as Ria said, that is the fault of the band leaders. Perhaps this really is a comedy of errors caused by somebody asleep at the wheel.

I would more readily accept repetition from a designer in an entirely separate band than in the same. Team or no team, there needs to be a diverse offering within the same band and that does not include costumes even ACCIDENTALLY looking similar or repeating similar elements.

It is even quite possible that since the headpiece and collar were not presented at the launch and there was some sort of last minute gluing, the PERCEPTION of onlookers may have been that the FL costume was just being thrown together. The similarity in shape of stones combined with a similarity in color may have added to the perception and fueled the rumours. But, if they had used something entirely different there might not have been any doubt. Who knows...?

They now fix up FL, but why the back line look like it still have scraps hanging down? (Because Tribe go sell out anyway, right CGP???!! Who cares?)

IF there is friction between the Cocktails girls and Sol I would hope they can forgive each other and move on, so that next year this time all designers bring their A game to their mas. I love Sol, Rhiannon and Thais and hope things get resolved between them as they are supposed to be ONE TRIBE :(

WOW! all this I miss!

didatrini said...

What we really need to acknowledge here is that despite any controversy, any recycling, any rumors of unfair pre-registration sell out, and most importantly exorbitant over-pricing TRIBE will sell out!!! P.S. I know for a fact costumes are overpriced and that other sections produced at a much lower cost than LOULAN are being similarly priced and thereby diminishing the profit margin for that section. But guess what? Instead of us showing TRIBE that just because us loyalists help them to get as big as they are and they should not overprice, especially in an ongoing global recession by boycotting them and sending a msg...what do we do? We engage in what all boils down to drama cause we gon pay down dat money next wk!!

What TRIBE has to realize is that they can say dey sell out w just deposit money but who is to say come Carnival time many people are unable to pay off and pick up!!

Anyways...I heard from a friend of a friend of the designer (LOULAN) that said designer does not have much say and had to go along w d direction of the mas band leader on this and that said designer does not even have much control over how many slots she is allowed to reserve for her OWN peoples.

If said designer is indeed the passionate Ayana then I want u to know I fully empathize w the unfairness of a debutante design impinging on the creativity/originality of ur design. However, take solace in the fact that urs came out first!!! And as this chat reveals...de consumers are aware of that fact and ur section is being touted as D section to be in...that's because u did a great job no matter where u got ur inspiration from.

I think that one leg piece is farcical! Unless u standing up in an asymmetrical, curved manner all day to show the design...LOL!!!! But standing tall, I think I will be wondering...buh aye weh de nex side!!

Respect :)

MyJo said...

OOOO WOW!!! this is a lot to read .... and OOO MMMYY look at the bachannalllll!!! i couldn't read the entire discussion but at least the last 20.

okay okay okay .... i would like to put in my two cents ... Both costumes are gorgeous....

loulan came out first on stage.... yes .... but what makes you think that the design came out first?

the people in this discussion board, are you all physically here in trinidad and actually went to the camp to view these costumes? if so then you will see that the truth and infact the crowd was more gravitated by zari, charmeus, malberry (this is what i noticed when i was there 3 times this week).

On stage and in the book loulan looked as though that was 'THE' section to be in (i must say it looked gorgeous on stage) but honestly up cose and personal .... (IMO) it ain't so hot in person, the "gems" are just WAYY tooo big, ..... i know that the belt is tooo weighty to be on your waist.... how can you jump up or throw back waist with such huge gems?

Also is it practical for the road? if a gem falls out? .... that will look sooooooooooo bad because one gem is really huge ... ur blet will look as if you have a gappin wound on it ... (i mean sol may hook up her close friends) orr would she facilitate "road assistance". i mean yessss regardless beads and little dimantase are guaranteed to fall out but you can bearly notice it .... if one of those gems fall out for sure yuh seeing it...

i saw zari FL as well up close and personal and the gems are alot smaller, (and to clarify, the colour IS DIFFERENT) it has some weight, but not as heavy as loulan and what makes zari sooo different from loulan are the dimantase ... wow!!!!! it is gorgeous!!! it adds an extra flare to it under the light and sun ....

Another thing .... all this bickering and fighting ... loulan and zari really better kiss and make up .... this really is not good for the band at all ... TRIBE right now looks as though they cannot contain their "private/contracted" section leaders ... TRIBE will have to really sit down and think what is going to happen on the road as soooo many people are passionate about this.... do they have to hire more security?

i as a masquerader will have to monitor this situation because i for sure doh want to get a bottle to head or my cosutme being tampered with if i decide to play with either section .... actually as a matter of fact i am not going to play in aany .....

anyhow i don't know about you all ... but i like to chook back waist, get high off the music and have a good time on the road ... please i beg that you two kiss and make up so that we all can tek ah whine .... "doh hold meh back ... back back" ... oh gadddd oyyyyyy

Sorry my second line from before was supposed to read ... both cosutmes are gorgeous at least from what we saw on stage ...

I am flabbergasted by the number of comments for this post!

It is interesting how strongly both sets of supporters feel,I can only imagine how much to this is more than meets the eye!

Anyway,I would sincerely hope all this crips vs bloods bickering (within the SAME band)is left right here in cyber space and not taken to the streets! At the end of the day it really isn't THAT serious!

KayaKitty said...

Bottle to the head? Extra security? Honestly, Carnivalbaby, you really feel a debate on a blog will explode into that?

To my knowledge no physical fight has broken out over this, so why be so dramatic? Gosh, I imagine if you lived in the days when all philosophers did was argue about what they believed in, I suppose you would have been the one to cower in your house because goodness knows the Aristotle's students might give you a buss head! And what of litigators...? I suppose any time a big case come up, you double bolt the doors because the lawyers might torch your house on the way to court, right and cause civil war... (SIGH)

As I said before, one can disagree without being disagreeable (or calling names OR LICKING SOMEBODY WITH A BOTTLE IN THE STREET).

And, Lawd, people, you are so focused on 'Ayana' possibly being Solange that it hasn't occurred to folks to suspect that other designers of a cocktail variety are posting here INSTEAD OF FIXING THE BACKLINE THAT LOOK SO SHABBY AND HALF-ASSED. (But, I guess they don't have to since CGJ say it don't matter because Tribe go sell out ANYWAY.)

ahm I'm at a loss as to how this one post generated 82 comments (well 82 as at 10:44am on 2009-08-09) and counting. Did n't realise folks were sooooo passionate 'bouot Zri looking slightly like another costume. I got these pics and all I thought was thank God there's a proper frontline for this costume. Still not a fav, but it's aight.

My gosh Kayakitty MUST YOU ALWAYSSS ATTACK someone on this blog .... everytime someone says something you are the first to comment ... geeezzz drop it nah ... IT IS NOT YOUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR PROBLEM ...

we all already said our piece ... (that is the intension of this blog to put our views)

For your information I AM NOT ONE TO CAUSE CONFUSION clearly you like to poke fire and addd alot of fuel to it .... but i will leave you alone because you clearly don't know any better ... (in other words your ignorant)

I am not one of those that would cower from a situation .... but for this TRIVIAL problem I won't waste my time and get a bottle to head over WHAT!!!! two costumes looking soooooooo similar (that is what most of you believe but have not really seen it in person) ... PLEAAASSSSSSSSSEEE kaya ..... REALLY ...

AND one last thing ... YOU are OBVIOUSLY not in TRINIDAD cuz you would see for yourself that the crowd that entered the camp to view the costumes really DO NOT LIKE LOULAN and PREFER ZARI Backline.

AS I SAID YOU DONT KNOW BETTER ... so you can hem and horn and say what you want to reply to my comment ... but darlin i done with you cuz all you do is NAGGINNNN in everybody ears.....

PEACE OUT AND FIND SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO DO THAN TO ATTACK PEOPLE ONLINE!!!!

DO HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! :)

"MUST YOU ALWAYSSS ATTACK someone on this blog.." "Every time somebody says something you are the first to comment..."

Umm, what???

Why am I surprised that someone who would escalate a debate to the possibility of violence on the road would come with even more exaggeration and histrionics???

Carnivalbaby, you obviously have no attachment to the truth since I only commented at the end of the discussion and only responded to what is directed at me or what I thought was a good point (or a particularly flawed one).

You also seem to be confusing this KayaKitty with some other person posting on Saucy's blog. I very rarely comment. I could count the number of posts I have commented on in the last six-nine months on one hand (if that many). And I was not the person on this post attacking anyone or calling them DUMB...or IGNORANT.

YOU added the fuel by talking about violence on the road and extra security might needed. (Hysterics, anyone?) Civilized, intelligent people don't need to name-call or lick somebody with a bottle over something like this. But, perhaps you are more familiar with the ignorant ones who would take it to that level.

I advise you to make sure you know which person is saying what before you throw accusations. I NEVER ventured an opinion on the similarity of the two costumes. I merely speculated on HOW it may or may not have occurred and WHY OTHER people at the launch behind the scenes may have had that perception.

And, what the hell do I care what the audience when I am only choosing for myself? HOW is that relevant? I don't choose a costume based on what is popular or what the audience reacts to. Loulan was never a contender for me because of the nude color. Zari was.

HOWEVER, the designers did not follow through on the back line. AND STILL HAVEN'T! (If you disagree, that's your business.) But, there is nothing special about it other than the color, which is one of my absolute favorites. They have wasted it, and I am really disappointed because I had no choice but to cross it off my list.

I thought it was an extremely good use of my time to put an immediate quash on that talk of violence and I would do it again. I'm so glad you say you are removing yourself from the conversation. I don't think hysterics adds anything to it.

No worries, Sweetheart, I am having a lovely violence-free day.

You take care and do stay far from looming the bottle fights over costumes... and other apparel. ;)

Um, yeah.

So I think the backpack is really original. I hope they post photos of the back of it soon so we can see how it's meant to stay on.

The rest of you arguing about some bloody gems and who saw whose costume first and who tief designs, should go and get effing hobbies. I'm more concerned with sorting out my car insurance at this exact moment in time, than if two desingers may or may not have shared a gem supplier.

Talk about mountains and molehills. Sheesh!

LMAO.. well said mjsbunny!!

Thanks mjsbunny at least someone UNDERSTANDS what i was trying to say ...

Oh Gouuudd....this is some funny business....it gettin real personal in here....It leaves to wonder whether the designers and so forth sipping on some cocktails laughin at the bickering in here....or if they thinking of changing what not and what not...hmmm...maybe they just studying the money they making REGARDLESS of all the gripe...cus face it...its TRIBE...they sellin out anyway!

mjsbunny said...

Kandy and CB, is no joke nuh. Been getting quotes left, right and centre. One company is even offering us a discount if we insure BOTH our cars with them. Wa-hey!

Kind of puts the whole gem waistpiece thing into perspective for me, i.e. it is of no relevance to my daily life! I'm so pleased you two see it my way.

Just a cheeky (and somewhat facetious) question though...if I play with the Cocktail Girls, will they be serving proper cocktails in their section on the road? A Singapore Sling always goes down well...

wowzers! hmm...interesting discussion board...

zari frontline is very interesting and quite pretty but it's too busy for my taste...the whole leg piece on one side is a nice concept but i agree with didatrini...on the road it might look as if the other side is missing...

all in all...the colours are gorgeous, the concept is nice but it's still not my fav!

KANDY said...

girl just go with the best car insurance and price because remember you got to pay it every year!!

Also, i wish they will be serving cocktails on the road but i have no idea. I doubt but maybe we might get a surprise.

Anyway, good luck with your car insurance decision it would all work out for the best.

Take care!

well i must say...this is quite an entertaining read for a monday morning in my beautiful country! lmao.

anywho...i quite LOVE the Zari FL. The colours are gorgeous and the bra!!!! wow wee! if you have a nice rack you gonna look smokin!

I played in black magic and yes the headpiece is similar in shape but then again i've been playing mas since 1999 and i have seen many a similar costumes! but never these colours! hence my wanting to play in this section. Any the backline...its skimpy bad...not alot of decorations going on ...but seriously how many of ya'll want stuff hanging between your legs e.g. sunken treasure...which rips up yr stocking and bruises your legs ...pieces of costume??...any of that going to stay on past 12noon tuesday?!

NOW...I am not trying to discount Loulan in anyway! it is definitely a top pick! the costume is gorgeous ...but for a brown girl such as myself who gets burnt in 5 mins...not so sure that base colour going to look so hott on tuesday on my complexion! and that is coming from real life experience playing in gold and tan colours before! BUT i cant wait to see the carnival babies in it on the road! did i mention it hott!! lol

as far as Zari and Loulan being similar and copies! blah blah blah is all i am hearing!

play in what you like! dont be a bandwagonist or a bachannalist ...after all ...we are the ones going to be wearing the costumes on carnival monday and tuesday in all our glory! are u really going to stand next to someone and say..."aye that gem look like mine" steups

PICK YUH SECTION! GET YR MONEY READY AND START THE GYM! FORGET THE DRAMA....

carnivalchick said...

I shocked to see all these comments about Zari! Hahahahahaha.. allyuh good yes...

Bottom line is, if you like the section play in it...if you dont then play in something else...

Come Monday and Tuesday nobody will be studying all this crap about who design it first and the belt looking the same blah blah blah..

As I said before the 2 costumes are completely different. both are beautiful... so allyuh just chill out and get allyuh money organize for when registration starts.

I gone.. :-)

waaaaaaay sa! look at drama nah! at the end of the day I really dunno what all the fuss is about cuz both Loulan and Zari Front Line done sell out! and much to my disappointment, i hear loulan designer only wanted "pretty girls" in her section.

ps: mjsbunny - good luck with getting your insurance sorted!

Anonymous said...

I wonder if on the site to register it have a box to tick pretty or ugly, because how else will you know if the masquerader pretty enough for the section?

Allyuh real like confusion and bacchanal!

Make me feel allyuh have a personal ting against the designer!

MyJo said...

Wow Msjbunny discount for both cars? how big of a discount is this? is this for the first year or ???? hmmm there's a catch in that .... lol!!

ask more questions, dig a little deeper. ensure to read dem fine print ... lol!!! u know they have hidden charges/fees orrrr something kinda ting in there ...

for the cocktails on the road ... when we go to register we could probably request it ... you never know we might get it :) ... whoo hooo ...

Anonymous said...

Ria...I don't think anyone is causing confusion or bacchanal. i can see a lot of facts going down here. the comment i made about loulan's designer saying she wanted pretty girls in her section referred to her FL which is sold out anyway so there will be no need for a special box to tick for that on the site. the same goes for threads of morocco front line. the designer of that section (for which the front line is also sold out already)targeted certain people for her section and was looking for people with a certain look and a certain body type. it is really sad that this is what carnival has come to.....
