The typical Carnival footwear of sneakers will hopefully die a final death for Carnival 2010, looking at photographs from Carnival 2009 some masqueraders are in dire need of guidance in the footwear department! I simply cannot see those gorgeous, detailed costumes presented by all bands thus far, especially those draping with voluminous fabric, complemented by sneakers no matter how comfortable they may be!
can you picture sneakers with Rubies of Mumbai?
We have toyed with the idea of sandals and beaded slippers to wear with those costumes that knee high boots do not seem to be an option for; something as stylish as boots but not as cumbersome when you have costumes with layers of fabric.
booties will look cute with Charmeuse
For those masqueraders looking for more comfort and support yet desire the stylishness that boots afford, I am thinking that booties or ankle boots might be a viable option particullary, as one masquerader pointed out , they will work with the gladiator foot pieces that are all the rage on all the costumes. Plus, you can always pop an insole in these cropped boots for extra comfort.

I am thinking booties as my Monday footwear! What do you think, are we loving the booties as a compromise between boots and sneakers or not?

There is a big difference between a bashed up chunky pair of trainers you use for the gym in some scruffy once-was-white colour, and a pair of slimline trainers that match the colour scheme and have been decorated!
Personally I want boots - the orange picadilly ones would be great (I'm in Osage), but when would I ever wear orange boots again?! I'm not spending that much and only wearing for 1 carnival!
I'm not feeling the ankle boots with the gladiator-style footpieces. But I was thinking about them for Monday...maybe.
I've already got my boots for Tuesday. And they're the 'traditional' style of boots. Getting excited now just thinking about it. Tidy!!
I decorated my own sneakers last year to match my brazilian macaaw costume (and did a great job if I must say so myself :))! Next yr though, I'm graduating to boots. My only challenge though is ordering something online that doesn't give me the comfort I need. I dont want to sacrifice comfort for pretiness, so I'm tending to see if I can find a pair of boots in Trini that would suit my needs
UGH!
Please do away with the white sneakers...those things are too gross.
If yuh have to rock yuh sneaks, at least let them match!
I' all for ankle boots in 2010!
Boots are definitely a more sexy , put together look for a woman - my question how do you get the look minus the heel and toe blisters that come with using boots?
Would love to know if Ami Club Wear boots are as comfortable as they look for playing mas.Is there anywhere in TT that carry those style boots?
Robert from personal experience, I go a half to full size larger than what I normally wear and use gel insoles and thin socks. Some people find thicker socks and no insole provides the same comfort. I also look for round toe boots with a flexible sole and low wedge heel.
There are several stores on Charlotte Street and in the malls selling boots like what are shown on Ami.
Shoe Keepers also sell very comfy Piccadilly boots, they have a group on facebook.
Don't think I will look good with these booties...like 'em taller....love the Knee Highs though...but I think i might be too short for those...not sure how i'd pull that off...
Saucy, what do you recommend for the guy playing in Silk of Rajasthan, or Rubies of Mumbai, for instance?
Usually we can get away with sneakers. But I think it would be a crime to wear sneakers with these costumes in particular...
I think booties are absolutely cute and sexy. I've seen them on some girls this year and they worked beautifully. And the low cut will not keep you as hot as tall boots. However I don't see it working well with those gladiator leg pieces. I could be wrong.
Another option for comfortable boots is Easy Spirit: the Travelrite series. Those are the BEST!!!! Easy Spirit is known in the US for comfortable footwear. I did not have a lot footpain at all. The insole is great and it's stylish. AWESOME! I bought it in chocolate brown so I can still wear it in the winter and it's a neutral color to work with many costume colors. I just dressed it up with the costume's leg pieces and extras.
I haven't checked their website yet so I don't know what syles they have this season: easyspirit.com
Why not just wear ballet flats and decorate with crystals and the like... they serve me well on the road... you dont need boots.. or decorated Indian flats...
ballet flats have zero arch support for me and hurt my feet when worn for long periods.
I'm not really feeling the booties. I want to wear boots this year for the first time, and for me, the biggest thing is COMFORT!!!
The next biggest thing is color! Any tips for a masquerader playing in Charmeuse? Purple? Gold? Turquoise?!?! HELP!!!
Well I would personally advise against getting boots in the main colour of the costume, since it's unlikely to be an exact match.
I would personally go for a colour like gold or silver, which you could then decorate with gems the colour of the costume. I'm using the same approach for my accessories.
But that's just me...
I'm so happy for this post as I am so shoe confused at the mo!
Those last ones in your pics are really cute though. Not too high , not too low.
And I agree with the sticking to colours like gold, silver even brown. Least you more likely to get another use out of it.
I do have one boots peeve though ... the bulky-eskimo-winter-boots, and heaven forbid UGGS!! Please my fellow trinis ...Just DON'T!
(no disrespect to those who love these winter furries in our Caribbean sunshine... I realise you have to be careful who you offend on this blog sometimes!)
Saucy when you flat footed like me ballet flats easy... I personally love them cause I find boots real hot to wear in the heat. I think they will go nice with the sari like costumes for those who can wear them.
I actually used ankle boots for Labor Day and they were quite comfy and easier to decorate that knee - high boots (less material :))
