Hi Saucy,
I felt that the public should be aware that pre-registration isn't all it’s thought to be. For the past 2 years I have played with TRIBE and I absolutely love the experience, so much so that I will never play in another band! However, this was the first year I attempted to obtain the costume of my choice via pre- registration. Though I am a TLC card holder, I was advised that this is the best way to ensure that I got the costume of my liking. Prior to the opening of the official registration, registration fees were paid to an individual who claimed to know someone who had a direct link with a Tribe main section leader. Though no receipt was issued, I felt confident handing over $6000.00TT (for 4 of the 11 persons to be registered by this avenue) because this was the same route some of my band mates had taken for Carnival 2K9.
However, lo and behold, when receipts were issued for my section, none was found in my inbox. This bothered me sufficiently enough to contact the mas camp directly. At this point I was informed that there is no costume attached to my name... or any of the names I paid to register. I immediately contacted the individual who received the money and was somewhat rudely informed that everything is ok, the person in question who I will refer to as X, was in Miami for their carnival and it will all be sorted out when X returns. I waited until this point and heard no official word, and then again proceeded to try and get some information about the status of my costume. These calls and facebook messages continued for some months to no avail. This cycle continued until earlier this week I saw the Tribe disclaimer on pre- registration.
By this point I had lost all patience and decided to take matters into my own hand. I contacted the TRIBE Mas camp once again and requested if there were any costumes attached to our names and I got the same response (NB - however, individual X had a costume attached to X's name) . I proceeded to explain the entire situation to them and I was advised to contact X directly and find out what was going on (I must mention that as usual, TRIBE's customer care was very polite and helpful and I was once again impressed with their level of service). Individual X was contacted and I was informed that absolutely none of the 11 persons were registered... in fact it is alleged that the section leader contact that individual X apparently has was actually waiting for registered tribe persons to cancel their orders and then those costumes would POSSIBLY be allocated to us.
This sounded like absolute madness to me- not only would I more than likely not get the section of my choice, I would have to probably fit in someone else's costume that would probably be either too large or tiny... or have some other flaw with it (Mind you none of this was communicated to us in the months of trying to get information, we were always told ' Don't worry you will get your costume). After consultation with some of the other persons who attempted to pre- register and calling TRIBE to update them on my self induced troubles, I have decided to request all the money paid for my group to be returned. Individual X has confirmed to me that this would not be a problem and in fact the money could be returned the following day (which causes me to wonder whether the money ever reached the supposed section leader contact).
I will not be playing mass for 2K10 as previously planned, because I do not believe that any other band could provide me with the same experience that TRIBE can. So, as I await the return of my money I will like to tell all readers that pre- registration isn’t all that..... and if you have your TLC card USE IT , unless you have a direct contact with a committee member or section leader yourself . So I guess I will now be looking forward to mas 2K11 instead...
Regards,
Absolutely Disgusted

While your tale is a very good cautionary one, I feel very little sympathy for you.
I know this sounds really harsh and I'll probably be shouted at for saying it, but it's just the way I feel.
As a TLC holder, you stood a very good chance of getting a costume in the band when TLC registration opened. It may not have been your first choice, but most likely something on your list. This is why people always advise that you have about three or four sections you'd be happy to play in.
I was able to log in on the first day of TLC registration and select all sorts of costumes (without actually adding them to my account) before the system crashed. And I know I wasn't the only one. You just have to be on the ball with this.
I would never entrust my Carnival experience with anyone other than myself. So if it doesn't work out, there's only me to blame.
However, I do hope you and your friends get your money back and I also hope that Person X loses their costume.
Best of luck!
I don't think the original poster was looking for your sympathy mjsbunny, in fact he/she very much accepted that they should have taken responsibility and made it clear in the letter. The fact remains however, that MANY people follow this route to secure a costume and I think this letter was written simply as a warning to others. Caveat Emptor.....I hope you get your money back!
I agree with Bunny, person X should defintitely be refunded thier money from Tribe.
The writer admitted it was "self induced troubles"....and said Tribe was very nice...I dont think she was looking to blame anyone....
but thanks for telling us what a great experience you had tho bunny....very fortunate
Tribe shouldnt have to pay her back but the fact is tribe damn well knows there are people offerring this preregistration crap and they should really clamp down in it....so unprofessional
I wonder if the letter writer gave the name of the person to tribe when she called? I'm sure she did....and I'm sure they didn't do a thing about it
This is why I don't link with any partner or someone else to handle my registration. I wait just like evryone else on a computer to register for my costume. I hope this is a lesson too persons who allegedly have a "hookup" in TRIBE. If you want something done do it yaself. Cus it's every man to he own order.
Sttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuppppppppppppppppppppppppppssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is the problem with us trinis... we getting a bligh but we want a bligh for the fucking marish and parish too when we know our ass doh have them kinda connections.
how de ass u gonna get a bligh for all dem ppl thru a damn pumpkin vine friend of a friend of a friend of a friend.
Take yuh damn bligh for you and MAYBE one person... AND KEEP YUH MOUTH SHUT!!! steups. But noooo. we does want to tell every frigging body... and them too does want. and the damn bligh-givers themself... too damn ambitious all they seeing is $$. At least they didn't charge a fee like another very enteprising individaual. steups again
Steuuuupps!!!!!!!!! "What kind of crack yuh smokin?" Tribe is not the end all/be all...While ah feelin for yuh gyal, the most schupid ting ah done red in yuh post is that yuh not playin mas b/c you cyah play Tribe...Tribe does not equal Carnival and Carnival does not equal Tribe...play in anutha band...yuh might surprise yuhself...make some good come out de bachannal. Ah know yuh vex but don't let X teef yuh of de Carnival.
Girlfriend, it real hard! But lesson learnt here and you know that. Patience is key here. You had a TLC so wait for the proper reg. to open up and let your peeps get theirs on carnivaljunction.com . You know how much ppl WISH they had half of a TLC card? Wasted a good thing there. If you didin't get your first choice TOUGH. You should know by now that is how you have to roll when it come to TRIBE.
BTW, I suspect that there's a very VERY good chance allyuh money went Miami carnival eh. That sticking scene ain't sitting right at all. If you can still muster up a downpayment try a next band and register through the front door this time.
I know it tough , but be DAMNED if anybody take your carnival joy.
Tell she Trinizeta, she really giving Tribe way too much power. Carnival does not begin nor end with them. Who playing dey mas is dem or you? Dey giving discount? Dey putting yuh up in front with Max and dem? Stueeeeps! Girlfriend just go and get back yuh money and wine out yuh loss in another band. I remember one year I cound not get in the band I wanted, so me and meh gyul jump in another band and had a ball. Never knew mas could be so sweet, I get an unique carnival experience (ah still with dem) and Miss Lady find she husband to be (married 3 years now).
**round of applause for TriniZeta** standing ovation!!!!!!
MADAM! Tribe IS NOT the be all and end of all of mas! There are many other bands that offer an all inclusive bikini and beads experience. Furthermore, I dont understand why people stand in line from early morning to fight just tuh register in Tribe. To each his own I guess. Hopefully you'll get your money back.
I say more better for the poster; it is because of people like her that legitimate TLC holders and others cannot get through with a ccostume. This friends of a friend shit was rampant this year. I dont even think she should get her money back. Let that be a mlesson and stop trying to circumvent the system.
ENT! @ TriniZeta lol....gyal...go play yuh mas wit whateva band u get a costume.Carnival is carnival...whatever band u plain in is d same music d same drinks etc...carnival is mas period so as long as u have a costume ur music ur crew and ur drinks u good. Fine u like Tribe but dont let not playing with equal no carnival period...thats straight crazy!
mind d typos lol...
Trinizeta...a woman after my heart oui! If it is a STRUGGLE to get into a band that you are a TLC cardholder to then the service cant be THAT great.Everyone knows, it's not the band, but teh crew you play with. They make it fun. Think about it this way ... you are giving up Revellery for Two Glorious days... because you cant get into an EXCLUSIVE band? Since when Carnival is about Exclusivity anyways? it is about abandon and freedom.. Try another band.. many of them have RAVE reviews...I myself play with a band that never has good reviews, and I have a BLAST EVERY SINGLE YEAR! WOrse yet.. I play by myself.. no crew, just friends who I meet along the way... Try something New! You may be more than pleasantly surprised...
i know i am late..but i am not letting any mr X spoil my carnival!! so many ppl sell costumes especially women costumes..and with this recession i am sure ppl might not be able to make their payments. so make sure u get yuh money back and u just wait and you will get your costume my friend...with your size..remember TRIBE is about the experience..the costume will look nice once you carry it out the best way. so hope to see you on the road!!
