Las Vegas Carnival Update

News reaching The Sauce is that Trinidad and Tobago Carnival will not be the only Carnival represented at the inaugural Las Vegas Carnival to be held in October.

Look out for costumes from Barbados/Crop Over, Brazil, Notting Hill Carnival, Labor Day, Caribana and Miami Carnival to be making an appearance.

Now this is interesting!

Well thats a nice mix. However, how is it that Miami Carnival will be involved when LV Carnival is on the same weekend w/ Miami carnival (columbus day weekend)? Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest?

Maybe they will use older costumes from Miami?

Is the idea that each of the 10 countries are 10 different "bands" comprised of costumes specific to each carnival? These bands better be making a pretty good profit by selling off their surplus.

$1200/female and $1000/male costume! It seems like they will attract a lot of people who have always wanted to go to an international carnival. Costumes will sell, I'm sure...but I hope only to people who don't know any better! I wonder what type of "top billboard" artists they could have perform for a carnival event? I'm sure this will be a spectacle.

Hmmm...this was moved from May 1 to October 10.

If they're trying to get costumes to go for THAT price AT LEAST make new ones!!!

How they expect people to pay MORE money to participate a knockoff, BRAND NEW Carnival? Outrageous when the real thing is less money.

$1200 really is outrageous, especially for a brand new carival. I am someone who participates in Miami Carnival every year. Last year, my costume, airfare, hotel, all-inclusive fetes, food, boots and accessories never came close to even $1000!!! Vegas is a very cool place but it is sooo expensive. Hotel, food, your airfare and of course $1200 for a costume...$2000 easy!!! If someone is willing to pay that, they should save their money and head to Trinidad for the real thing!!

I am disturbed that they chose their carnival to be the same time as Miami carnival. I think Vegas would be a cool place for a carnival but this is just too expensive. I will not be giving up Miami for this.

Oh - to Tall7 - I actually do not see americans (esp black americans) paying $1200 for something they don't understand. My american friends are floored when I tell them the prices of T&T costumes and I'm usually in the $550-$700 range. And for the west indians living here in America, they damn sure are not going to pay this. I can already guess the demographic that will be representing. Or, I have a feeling they will lower their prices as time gets near or bust! Watch!!

cutetrinilawyer...that's EXACTLY where I was headed with the my statement about who was paying those prices. vegas is a place to see and be seen, so i guess they figure that with all those high rollers that can blow $10000 in a weekend, surely $1200 won't hurt their pockets. nobody i personally know either will pay that money, but this company definitely has a different target in mind. i wonder if they will have an option for people who actually have one of the costumes being sold? hopefully they research their dates in the future to avoid this time conflict again.

Maybe people should read more carefully. The costumes are not $1,000 or $1,200; from what I've read, what you pay for includes food and drinks ALL DAY, they transport you and from the carnival event and you have front stage access to the VegasFest which I guess is this big concert event with a bunch of top stars. It is also obvious that they are not going for the same crowd as Miami carnival. I think those who can't afford it should just stay home. Vegas attracts dome of the biggest high rollers out there who spend 10s of thousands in a week, so this has got to be the demographic they are going after. I'm going, I can afford it so I'm going to have a blast!

we are happy you can afford it! it will be a great event. i'm sure plenty of people can afford this, as there are some who paid a pretty penny for their tnt costumes. likewise, we all read what is included. the point is that many people have already paid for the same costume, specifically in TRIBE and Spice (cost including unlimited food, drink, and shuttle to the band for TWO days) for previous carnivals, so it is amazing to see backline costumes marked up at least $500. also, as this is the first year of this event, one can only pray that these promotors will be able to pull off an event of this magnitude.

bloggerone - ummm...respectfully we did read it, at least I did. But in Trinidad we also get food and drinks all day long as well for TWO days plus costume for Tuesday (and sometimes Monday wear depending on the band) for a lot less money (unless you are frontline or individual) and I still think that for something that is not established, it is not something people want to risk spending their hard earned money on. But do you. I know you will have an absolute great time. (BTW - there are people that CAN afford it but people like me would rather hear your review and others before skipping Miami to try Vegas. If people don't know what they are paying for they may not be willing to drop that money. That's all.) I think it will be a great time but I know what I'm getting in Miami. And clearly they are not going for the same crowd. I anxiously await how it will turn out. Vegas is great!

Tall7 - agreed!!!!

Bloggerone I am sorry but they are going for the Miami Crowd. Those are the people willing to travel anywhere there is a carnival. They are spreading the word in the same outlets known for catering to the carnival hopping hoppers. One thing i must say the must realize its a strecth why else would they have RnB and Hip Hop acts. They need to draw people who are not familiar with carnival. I wish them all the luck I for one would love to go to vegas and enjoy carnival but I can go and hear hip hop and RnB there anytime. My question is what caribbean artists will be performing?
