Vegas Carnival Debuts New Costumes

After the negative feedback over the cost of costumes advertised for Las Vegas Carnival so far, new costumes have made it unto the website. Called "Viva Las Vegas" these costumes have no band affiliation though I heard they were designed by Sonia Mack.

One has to wonder if these costumes, priced between $500  to $650.00US came about because potential masqueraders balked at the exorbitant $1200.00US to play in recycled costumes; which came first, the chicken or the egg?!

EDITED TO ADD:
Photos removed upon request of the costume designer, Sonia Mack. More information on this latest development to follow.

Vegas is fun and all, or so I hear, but I still can't understand why they would chose to go toe to toe in competition with Miami?

Please don't give these knobheads and their superlame 'Carnival' the oxygen of publicity. I am still a but incensed by the stupid comment made by Jump-On.

I find this whole 'Carnival' to be such a cynical venture- purely for money making purposes. Anybody who reads financial journalism knows that Vegas has been hit very hard by the recession. Visitor numbers have dropped off. Corporate tourism, which provided a hefty chunk of their income, has all but dried up. Unemployment is rife and very few hotels are reaching half-capacity. So they hijack something that has proved successful in other cities, hoping to make a quick buck.

Disgusting!

I am not a fan of any overseas Carnival (my Carnival snobbery in full force there), but find this one particularly distasteful. I hope TRIBE and Spice were paid very well for this. I am disappointed in TRIBE, because I'm sure they don't need the money. And I hope they are getting something other than money from it.

But that's just me.

These costumes just dey. Enough to please a noob crowd i guess, but they are very basic and of course, don't really bring out anything in the theme.
They definitely look like they were recently designed by someone with talent: nice, but not up to par.
Doesn't matter much anyway because I can't imagine that this will be well-attended.

I am now convinced that the people behind this venture are Trinis - or have strong connections here. Now these costumes are also designed by a local designer with Trini models too. Where are the bands from the other 9 countries????

Still not interested.

they do not view Miami Carnival as competition because they are not targeting the same audience that attends Miami Carnival. I spoke to the LV carnival PR person months ago when I read online that they were organizing their 1st carnival this year. He stated that they are not worried it coincides with Miami because they are going after a different market. Tribe is only producing costumes for LV Carnival, they are not organizing it so I don't think Tribe is responsible for the outlandish pricing. LV Carnival is a corporation and the President is a Trini who supposedly has been working for years with the city govt to get this event staged.
