Spice Media Launch, The Review

I have been reading the feedback from my Twitter Stream, Blog comments  and on Facebook about Spice's two teaser costumes shown last night . There seems to be a differing opinion to mine generally, and nothing is wrong with that. Truth is Jubilee Diamond and Tres Chic are not the worst costumes I have ever seen, in fact they are pretty attractive costumes, albeit with a familiar, been there, seen that look.

Jubilee Diamond I liked, not wowed by it, but I do appreciate the non feathered headpiece and the backpack wings, though without the use of a feathered headpiece I would have added even more feathers to the back pack since they are usually scaled down in production anyway.

Jubilee Diamond

Tres Chic I applaud the use of more than just two colours for a costume, it is pink, not my favourite colour for a costume or otherwise but I also think it is cute. The huge gems do not bother me really, I like the design element at the front of the headpiece though it squashed the models forehead! I like the height of the headpiece coupled with the little collar ( I guess the collar IS here to stay, sigh) I am guessing this will be the frontline option. How could I ignore the copy of Mystery of Loulan's necklace? I am sure the designers knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to use that "signature" Loulan look in their costume and as a result they should be prepared for the criticisms. Personally I would have at least tried to do something different with the necklace apart from making it multi coloured. The metallic detail on the bra is pretty nice, it looks like sequins but it is not.

Tres Chic

Missing from the Media Launch last night were designers of Spice's two previous presentations, Richard and Anthony. You can also tell that their touch was missing from those costumes however I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing. The effort made by a group of "designers" with little to no experience in creating mas is not bad at all, I just wish Gisel Laughlin had also injected some of her talent to help Elements; now those were some of the worst costumes ever seen , but I digress. Spice's design team get a B- for effort, a higher grade than I wanted to give just because they all are not "designers" by profession so the expectation was very low to be honest.

Given all that I heard about Spice's costumes, or lack of, I was pleasantly surprised that they did manage to show two decent offerings and can only hope for their band launch the Design Team hits us for six as NOW my expectations have been duly raised.

Bring it on Spice!

I'm actually not hating those costumes at all. I'm also not a fan of pink costumes, but that one isn't at all bad. And the white and silver one is cute...albeit almost a rip off of VS's angels. But I really do like the featherless HP.

Looking forward to seeing the rest! I just hope they haven't previewed their best costumes.

This band launching season is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in recent memory!

Well I for one like both of those costumes.. I take alot of haterade going on in here LOL.

So far this year those are the best costumes so far. Can't judge them to hard. The Loulan neckpiece is blatant on Tres Chic but all in all a very pretty costume.

Jubilee Diamond is nice, but not terribly exciting to me. It just feels like mashup of many other costumes I've seen.

However, I love the idea of Tres Chic, but the execution fell a little flat, in my opinion. I love the large, multi-coloured gems, but I would have preferred it if they were more vivid. In addition, I think a gold base, rather than silver, would have given more 'pop' to the feathers and gems. It's a good effort, but I really wish they had turned up the volume on this one.

I also like the costumes displayed. Spice gets an "A" in my book. Both costumes were beautiful pieces. If the remaining costumes are any better than what was shown then Spice definitely deserves a job well done! Looking forward to what else is in store.

Spice gets a standing ovation in my book! Even though I am not a fan of ALL WHITE costumes, that costume was BEAUTIFUL! I'd sign up for either section!

I hope Spice has better costumes to come as both these costumes seem uninspired and lack creativity.

Diamond Jubilee is nice looking, the wings remind me a little of Caspian Sea fl but whatever. White costumes always look nice to me.
Tres Chic is cute, not ground-breaking design but cute. I like the look of a very tall hp, but I'd be concerned about how stable that thing is.

@ Richie's Spoilchile...that's the first thing that came to mind when i saw Tres Chic..Jewel of the Nile...but i guess any costume that uses multi-colored rhinestones will be reminiscent...IP set the trend there i guess...lol

I agree with JJ (Im sorry but Im an IP bandwagonist). As for Spice and their costumes, I dont think either of them are bad to be honest. I liked them both. I have ALWAYS (okay the past two years lol)liked Spice's costumes its SPICE in itself that rubs me the wrong way. What I didn't like is what everyone else did though. The height of the head piece. The wind does a number on headpieces with those hinda heights. It just doesn't seem too practical on the road for me. I say two thumbs up! (I still waitin on YUMA an IP though) LOL
