Post Band Launch Updates.. Again!

One day after Harts opened for registration and they have a sold out section:

Which leads me to ask, anyone taking bets on how long it takes Yuma Vibe , Spice Carnival, Island People Mas, Harts Carnival, Bliss Carnival and TRIBE Carnival to sell out this year? What band are you jumping with and have you jumped ship?

Spice registration is set to begin on Wednesday and I guess you will have to wait until then to see prices as their website will also launch at the same time:

Our Band House will officially be open for viewing and registration on Wednesday 25th August, 2010. Opening hours will be Monday to Friday 12 noon to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 1pm to 6pm. Our new Band House is located on the Corner of Rust and Gray Streets in St. Clair.

Online registration will also commence on Wednesday 25th August, 2010 on our website www.spicecarnivalband.com. A full list of prices will be available at our Band House and on our website from Wednesday.

Speaking of websites, YUMA's is still offline.* While I think their website is cool, 360 views and all, website developers should know that we masqueraders are pretty easy to please and simple websites are GREAT. All we require are close up shots of the costumes showing detail and where the colour is not manipulated. Who needs to wait for pictures and video to load just to see a teeny shot of a costume? I don't know why the trend is for all these flash websites that are cool for the web developer and hard for the average user  to navigate!
* edited to add, for those of you getting YUMA's website as offline, clear your cache and it becomes visible again.

My sources also told me that YUMA's individual costumes range between $12,000 to $15,000TT and the higher prices range is owing to the VIP service and rumoured FLOAT that is going to be for Individuals Only! Reminds me of the Spice VIP section that bombed before it hit the road, I am rooting for YUMA to pull this off, I have never seen a float on the road in Trinidad during my Carnival era!

And one more YUMA tidbit of information, who knew that not only does YUMA have a registration committee they are also following other band's footsteps and having committee registration as well. If you have your eye on a certain frontline costume I suggest you start looking for your links right now! Public registration is also rumoured to begin on WEDNESDAY. You go YUMA, I think you are working damn hard to sell your band and I hope you do sell out.

Oasis Carnival.... have you flat lined?

TRIBE and Bliss are UNUSUALLY quiet..hmmmm...August 28th and 29th soon come!

Dream Team launched last night and Showtime Mas launches tonight, since none of the Blogerati were invited to either Dream Team or Showtime's launch I look forward to viewing photos of costumes, or their website, which ever comes first!

I also Loved loved yuma'a website... and found it to be very user friendly. I've been on the website up to yesterday and navigated through the entire thing. Kudos to them for starting a trend amongst other bands keeping supporters informed and the vibe alive via FB.. i see spice and IP trying the same thing...smh

YUMA's website was still showing offline for me. I had to clear my cache and try it again before I saw the new website. Thanks!

Many people had problems with viewing before it was fixed, hope no one has issues now.

As far as new bands go, Skullduggery has also been very interactive on their Facebook Page with their fans, if anyone started the trend THIS YEAR I think the nod should go to them since they were the first new band actively communicating on facebook.

Just keeping it real since people have short memories and lil ole Skullduggery will be forgotten for being trumps in their Social Media Game... way before YUMA.

Skullduggery WHO!!! lol>> My friends and i have been all over Yuma's website the same day it went down and came back up.. no probs here.

So after waiting impatiently for IP to launch.. say we going back to just wanna have fun on the road. After last year's experience in Tribe! just awful i am still bitter, to hell with Loyality. Anyway nothing in IP excited me and the fact that they decided to include teenage versions!! WHAT, i know teens play regardless but to target them concerns me.
Personally i see two of their costumes being Yuma inspired, lmao... Decisions, Decisions..UGH

Have to agree with angel and debra, love Yuma's website as well. Perhaps I have not missed the lack of close up shots because there are so many very good close up pics from the mas camp floating around.

So to answer the questions, I think:
Yuma - will sell out by the end of this week
Spice - don't care
IP - don't know much about them
Harts - What size are they aiming for? I give them until end of Sept. (Is there 1 more section? The cheaper one?)
Bliss - Those costumes are overall ugly (IMO) so I'm not bothered. A revamp of costumes after launch is such a poor showing as well.
Tribe - Tribe with their greed and lack of care for masquerader enjoyment, health and safety has totally pissed me off this year, so don't care either.
Jumping ship from - Tribe to Yuma

Good luck to everyone.
Bands - hope you sell out
Masqueraders - Hope you get your band and costume of choice

RWB I agree, there are good close up shots floating around, thanks to the bloggers and Trinidad Costume Photos (facebook).

But at the end of the day a band should not depend on the Bloggers for close up pics now should they? The first point of reference is their website and to me they should all include close up shots.

Anonymous said...

That is totally true. They should be the ultimate source of information. But, admittedly, I am sure that the reason I have not missed it is because of dedicated bloggers, fb groups and friends' great pics.

The one thing actually I would have liked to do on their site is to zoom in on the front and back view.

Saucy I agree with your last comment. Bands should not depend on other sources for close-ups. I like YUMA's website and I like the 360 degree view. However I would like the 360 degree view better if it would allow you to see the WHOLE front of the costume. It goes from the very top and then swirls around to the backside. Honestly, when I saw the close-up pics from Trinidad photo costumes, that's when I relaized the true colors of some of the beading on the costumes. Trinidad photo costumes had GREAT close-up shots.

I am also wondering why YUMA has not included important registration info yet on their website ie, measurements, sizes, underwear options etc. When are they going to do that??? Isn't registration in 48 hours? What are they waiting on?

my main problem with the site is that I can't seem to turn off the music. Not good especially when you viewing the thing at work!

RWB I totally agrre with u on ur pts above oh and btw..YUMA's website does allow u to zoom in on the front and back of the costumes. Jus click on the little magnifying glass on the bottom left :)

DOH!! Didn't even notice that DQ. That's good enough for me :)

I'm planning on playing mas for the first time in TRINIDAD; I've play mas plenty times before in other countries. I have been following this blog for about 3 years now, so I know more than a regular trini carnival virgin. I am still trying to decide on which band I should jump with. I like some sections in Tribe and most of my friend play with them(but come on now, my chances getting into Tribe are extremely slim), I like 3 in Bliss, 5 of Yuma's and 5 from Spice. I need help deciding, anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

Having waited for IP, they did not disappoint. Teenage section is a wonderful idea, kudos to them on delivering some actual innovation in the mas.

I am loving Yuma's website, but the music gets annoying. Plus why should I have to clear my cache, refresh a zillion times etc etc. Not cool!

And yeah where are you Oasis??? LOL

Anonymous said...

Partyanimal, what are your choices from the respective bands?

Unknown said...

Um, Kramtt...put your work comp on mute (or perhaps don't view it at work but who am I to talk cause I sure did! lol)

I LOVE Yuma's site and those 360 views!

I am now alarmed at someone putting it out there that the band could actually sell out in a week! I thought maybe the hot sections would sell out asap, but the whole band? Have to get my crew on the ball here *hurries away to make some phone calls* lol

P.S. Saucy someone who got the word from the mas camp said Scorpio individual males are GONE...and plenty interest in Taurus male... smh Scorpio serious bredda!

I like YUMA's web site....however the home page is loaded with flash.. They should have used HTML5.... flash is old tech......
And if you are using apple iPhone or iPad ,,,forget it...neither supports flash, and what you get is a blank screen....But I give them props for doing something new..

@Trinigyal
My choices are:
Tribe:
Amazon, Sashura, Iroquois, Mayan eagle, Mongol Fighters, Persian Gold, and Xi An Warriors
Bliss:
Amazonia, Solaris, and Titans.

Yuma:
Cancer, Aries, Pisces, Capricorn, and scorpio.
Spice:
Haute couture, Peruvian splendor, Bordeaux beauty, Tuscany sunset, and Vines of syrah

There not in any order.

@Eloquence, Inc.
I was saying the same thing, I have to hurry, round my crew up and get organized before the good sections or the whole band sell out.

I'm loving Yuma's site, the 360-degree view works.

I think Yuma, Tribe and Bliss will sell out within the week, IP not long after, Spice is gonna take longer (I'm not feeling any of the sections)and Oasis is shooting itself in the foot, it needs to upload its site and fast!)

@Party Animal - i like Mayan Eagle and Persian Gold in Tribe; in Bliss, definitely Amazonia (somehow the very same design in Tribe looks better with the purple and orange in Bliss); and in Yuma, I'd go for Pisces.

I don't like anything in Spice

Unless you have someone on the inside for Bliss & Tribe, or you have a TLC for Tribe, I'd probably focus on Yuma and Spice if I were you.

I don't know anything about Spice reg (I assume it's all on their website). Yuma online reg is this week. You should be on it from the second it goes live if there are sections that you really love.

It's hard to comment on your choices without knowing if male/female, FL/BL. Assuming Female BL - I like all your Yuma choices except Pisces.
-I only like Titans in Bliss
-I like all your Tribe choices except Sashura
-Spice, blah!

I do not think YUMA will sell out within the week.

And I finally saw their website properly for the first time yesterday

I agree with Afro Chic! The popular might sell out quick but some will take much longer!

Love YUMA's website- but not jumping ship yet... I am not sure when the zoom became available but there is a zoom option where the small photos are...

I hope YUMA does things right this year, because they have some serious potential! As for Spice, I am VEXED at how they refuse to open their mas camp until registration day--are you afraid of what your masqueraders might say if they get a chance to look at costumes ahead of time? I know it's a business move, but... Hmph.

Partyanimal said...

@ RBW and She Who Weaves Words, Thanks for the tips

@ RBW I'm a male, but my carnival crew is 7 of us, 4 females and 3, males. I know that Tribe sells out with their TLC masqueraders, but since nuff people been saying their jumping ship for Yuma i'm hoping to get a chance to register. (LOL i know my chances are beyond slim)
To play in Bliss you also need to be a TLC?

Anonymous said...

Partyanimal

You do not need a TLC for Bliss. I'm not sure what the procedure is or how likely it is that you will get what you want (because I don't care. lol). Maybe Saucy knows a bit more about the real deal in Bliss?

I doubt that there will be anything left in Tribe post TLC reg. Even though a lot of ppl are jumping ship, the band is supposedly "smaller", and committee reg is not limited to TLC holders. I could however be totally wrong. It's a risk.

If you want your costume of choice in Yuma, you should keep an eye on their fb page as online reg should be quite soon. In-house reg starts today I think.

There is also Harts? Although I find their prices way too hot considering it's not all incl.

Spice - blah

Partyanimal said...

@RWB LOL, I completely forgot about Tribe down sizing this year. As for Harts, um yeah their not really our crowd. We like playing in big bands..bigger than Harts.
I'll see what happens with Yuma, Spice, and maybe Island People.
Thanks for the help RWB
