DO you have a picture of what the small head piece option for Amazon looks like?

I have been paying for years but for some reason my conversion of what it will cost this year made my heart pound! Oh lord ah deading! LOL. Thanks for the prices.

WOW interesting prices..thanks saucy!!

these prices are ridiculous! Especially given the fact that a lot of these regular backline costumes are giving you a headband!

WOW! And the carnival inflation continues.........

Wow smh. Earlier this year frontline prices were just about the same, if not a tad bit lower, for fantabulous backpacks and headpieces with oh so many a feather (plumage always seems to be the justification for higher prices). So how are these prices for frontlines justified with no backpacks, and in some cases, not a single feather to be found? Some are just tweaked backline costumes with a slightly larger hp (xi an and knights templar come to mind. Hmmm...Interesting...

Thank God I going to Bliss.... hopefully the prices would be less

Thank you, thank you!

CarnivaLuva said...

JV I really dont think BLISS prices will be any lower. I think they'll be higher in fact. They are targeting the persons who dont want to be in crowded tribe. I'm sure you're paying for that "intimate" experience...

socaholic said...

NAH NAH NAH, What the hell... not with all those other bands out there "WITH FEATHERS"... I can get my so called ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE elsewhere... oh hell no...

Trinidad Soca Diary said...

Oh well I guess they want to se who really want to play with them at any cost!! Not me...bye bye TRIBE! Let's see what Bliss and YUMA have to offer

Anonymous said...

this is ridiculous i guess i will see what Trinirevellers have........we in recession you kno?

Southhombre said...

These prices are reasonable, who dont want to pay for the ultimate experience no problem, the band would sell out without you, welcome to Trinidad and you would not be missed on the road.

quiksilver said...

what were people really expecting? the prices are consistent with what i thought they would be.

and are people really serious thinking that BLISS would be any cheaper?

i don't find these prices are at all surprising.

ayannat said...

Im not surprised with these prices at all.. quite frankly I was expecting it to be more!

Not all these prices are exorbitant - but there were a few that had me scratching my head. For instance, Xi An - I love the costume, but really, there is very little costume. And unless there is sterling silver and sworvoski crystals adorning the bra and bottom piece, that price can't be justified - especially considering all the accessories the frontliners in Threads of Morrocco had this year. The costume is hot, but there is no costume, so why is it close to US$1000? Example number 2 - Knights Templar. Now if memory serves me right, the difference between the frontline and backline are the two upper arm pieces and the large headpiece. I personally dont like the upper arm pieces (or the feathers on them rather), so it probably just makes more sense to get a large headpiece with a backline costume.

I'm usually a frontliner, but honestly, I dont think any of these frontlines warrants the costs (with the exception of Mayan Eagle and Persian Gold perhaps) - when you look back on what frontliners had in years gone by. My advice to people - it probably just makes sense to get a large headpiece. If I'm paying close to US$1000 for a costume, I want to love it to death, and I don't love any of the frontlines that way. And my personal favorite for 2011is an individual(Amazon).

Ok I had to do the maths for the US dollar conversion (6.3). Anyone who cares about the US dollar prices see below. My magic number is 633 two years now I was able to get a FAB costume for that price or below. So that being said prices seem alright. Iroquois, Gladiator, and Masai are all in my price range IF I was playing Tribe.

So I had to go look for some receipts and 2008 was: $3, 595.00, 2009 was $3, 595.00, 2010 was: $4, 105.00. So I guess the price range remains the same it's just that for some reason it seemed like so much more when I first did the conversion...maybe because I am in a recession (many of us might be experiencing that). Nevertheless I will be paying :)I always remind myself it's more than just the costume we pay for and the cost of those things inflate as well: great security, great DJs, great vibes, drinks, snacks, food, etc.

The prices aren't so surprising, I think we're noticing it with sharper eyes this year knowing our purchasing power ain't what it once.

I'm Jamaican and our dollar is 86 to the US...imagine what it looks like to us...scary.

I'm looking at Massai, Gladiators and Persian Gold this year.

And for sure, BLISS (why isn't their site up as promised?) is gonna be priced up a bit and STILL gonna sell out...you don't have to worry a thing about that.

MERCY!!! I saw some extra pictures on Facebook...the small headpiece options (i don't like large headpieces as a rule, my head must be large but they always pinch and hurt me) and the "Gladiators" monokini option (which I didn't see me before though "Gladiators" was an original favourite)...now i've got some new thinking to do...i getting excited :)

Like you all forget you not just paying for the costume. There's alcohol, which I'm told has gone up, security, banner-crew, bar staff and the caterers. With the price of food going up, chances are that the caterers have had to up their prices as well. And maybe some sponsors are cutting back on what they're giving. Then there's the staff who work at collection and they have to pay rent at Cascadia (or so I assume). So it's all normal inflation.

In 2009, my Pheasant FL cost $6,000. So these prices don't shock me that much. I'm assuming an Individual will be between twelve and fifteen thousand, maybe even more. Sigh!

Air Connector said...

msjbunny - I also played in Pheasant FL - we got a huge headpiece and backpack. Many of these fronltines dont have these accessories and are very very close to $6000. I think Mayan Eagle one that warrants the price, but there are quite a few FLs that dont.

Trini princessa - you are using the wrong excahnge rate. When I take my US dollar to Trinidad to change it for Trini dollars, I do not get $6.3 - its actually safer to divide the costume cost by $6 because you can no longer pay electronically for the costume and you do lose its value during conversion, not to mention if you wire it - that's an added cost.

Overall, I think most of the prices are what should be expected. My grouse are for the frontlines with very little added for higher prices.
