This whole topic came about from a question asked to me about a particular band, someone asked if I was "converted" now and then went on to liken said band to a Genre of Music. Finding the whole thing hilarious I asked that person how would they categorize other popular bands and from there asked friends their opinion until we combined a list of sorts. If we were to choose a band based on musical taste, what type of music would each band be?
I don't know if this list is an accurate representation of the bands for everyone, especially their masqueraders, but keep in mind it was all done in FUN. Who knows, it may be helpful to those looking to play in a certain band and have no idea what demographic that band attracts.
So, what do you think? Agree of disagree with the Musical Genres ascribed to the Carnival Bands? And if a band is not listed add it in, leave a comment!

LOL.. I love it- so accurate!
That's why I play with Ronnie and Caro!
Bwahahahaaa....
The syncronization was good!
Nah, I don't agree with some of those classifications, purely because my tastes don't match. I love me some TRIBE, but am soooo not into Techno and can't really be bothered with Pop. I'm all about the Soca first off, then eclectic mix after that.
I would have classed IP as more Dub/Dancehall, than Hip Hop, since they're seen as the 'edgier' band (because of all the 'vibes' they claim to have) and I'd class TRIBE/Bliss as Hip Hop or Pop since that's more mainstream.
I'd be tempted to put Spice as Country and Western, seeing as they are most definitely an acquired taste but seem to have their people. Bear in mind that there has been some crossover between Country and Pop (like people jumping ship from TRIBE to go to Spice).
I'd also put Ronnie and Caro or even D'Krewe as Adult Contemporary, since to me, they resemble the 'mature sexy' and I'd swap Image Nation with Skullduggery, purely based on Skulldugger's theme this year. They're using local language/culture/sayings so Rapso seems to be a more natural fit.
And Wee Int'l et all would be Soca- pure wildness and that little bit 'ghetto'.
McFarlane would stay as Opera or Classical and Oasis really does appear to be as bland as Muzak, bless their little hearts. And the less I say about YUMA, the happier everyone seems to be! ;)
LOL bunny you made me laugh! Hip Hop, in TRIBE? Hmmm I kinda see R&B lite like Rhianna.. definitely not Mary J Blige and certainly not Hip Hop.. Nicki Minaj? LOL
You are not the only person who classed IP as Dancehall, one of my other friends did too!
I classed IP as dacehall also. I changed a few also.
Yuma - Hip hop
Genesis - Alternative
interesting read
I think Island People is a mix of cool reggae and soca its a band that appeals to all types of people. Saucy, how about looking at the names of presentations this year and put music to that...Island People "Shades of the Universe" - Techo...lol.
I enjoyed this! Clearly out of the box.
loved this...
For TRIBE I'd include something a little more mainstream, throw in some 'R&B lite' as someone else said and a soca blend in there as well.
IP would definitely include dancehall/dub.
The others seem to be classed appropriately :-)
