I am thinking for Carnival 2011 to have professional makeup done on BOTH days as the possibility is that I may be in two costumes....and even two bands...next year. Now, I have only had professional makeup done over the past three years and I honestly think it is worth it on Carnival Tuesday, for me, as it complements the entire fabulous costumed package.
On Carnival Monday since everyone tends to be wearing less of a costume and it is much more of a freer "dress down" atmosphere I have never really placed emphasis on going getting makeup professionally done, I just do it myself, because Monday is not the "big" day when you come out all decked off in full regalia. However I have been having the growing, nagging feeling that I do want that drama and pageantry on BOTH days, hence the longing for an actual costume for Monday instead of boy shorts and a baby tee. You know that overwhelming excitement you get on Tuesday when you are fully dressed in costume and say yes, this is the culmination of months and months of planning ? Well I want that feeling on both Monday AND Tuesday!
So, I have already booked my makeup appointment tentatively for Monday but what do you guys think, is that too much, not really worth it for Monday? Do you get professional makeup done on Monday and/or Tuesday and do you think it is money well spent?
I am trying to get a feel on how popular having makeup done on both days is and if I am late catching up to this trend!

Unless you have all the makeup you would possibly need for Monday already, do both and spare yourself the expense of buying it all, then still having to do it yourself.
As Monday is less busy than Tuesday, it's probably not too late to get an appointment at a reasonable hour as well (like 8, 9, 10). Maybe!!
I think it's becoming more popular. However, if I had all the makeup and a friend to help I would probably not go pro. Alas, I do not have/can't be bothered with either!!! SOOOO I've got my Monday appt booked :)
This year I had professional makeup done on BOTH days and I plan to continue this trend, though Monday is the more relaxed day there isn't a lack of photographers lol but I can't see why you shouldn't on Monday once you can afford it boy shorts or costume :)
If you're doing a F/L on monday; yes... If not I think you should do it yourself. But that's just me.. that's what I plan to do.. But I usually do a great job with my own makeup so if I can't get up early on Tuesday then I'm confident I'll still look FIERCE if I do it myself.. LOL!
I do my own makeup Monday and have an appt for Tuesday...I'd say if you're doing a proper costume on Monday, then it's worth the effort, especially if you're not completely confident in your makeup application and/or you'd need to buy too much stuff to compliment your Monday wear. Also are you playign J'ouvert? Because that would be a factor in going to an appointment vs DIY...
If you're going by the same person both days though, would they be open to offering a discount?? MUAs are not cheap for Carnival...
I have a TEMPTU airbrush machine so I will do my own on Monday and I have already made an appointment for Tuesday.
Now, if I succeed in playing one full costume on Monday and an entirely different FL on Tuesday, I may have to have my makeup done professionally on both days.
Oh dear, I am turning into a lunatic.
personally, i tend to stay a bit simple in terms of Monday makeup but i plan on doing a bit more dressing up next year and i think its worth the extra effort to make sure my look is complete. in no way will it be as fabulous as my tuesday makeup, but it'll be great all the same. i will be doing it at home, either by myself or with the help of a friend because i am a jouvert child as well, and i know all too well that by the time i get home from jouvert...if i only sit to have makeup done, thats it for me til lunch time lol
so if u want to look a lil extra special monday too, and have the funds ass well as the time, i say go for it, ur paying for 2 days anyway...enjoy them both as u see fit!
Me personally I'm a DIVA! But I'm a DIVA who loves Jourvert. So I do my own makeup anyway because I'm fierce with the brush!
In regards to Monday, after coming home from Jourvert I'm beat so Monday is like a slow day for me. I usually put together some cute Monday wear, my boots, some semi fierce makeup (sans lashes) and I'm out the door.
Now Tuesday it's the full fledged lashes, face jewels, blush, eye shadow etc etc.
If I didn't do my own makeup really good I would go to an artist. I have always wanted to try goint to an artist, but the amout of money I spend on makeup I already have, I always endup using my own. And I have my exact color and everything. Plus only MAC, Ben Nye and MUFE. I have MAC pigments and all.
I say go the whole nine yards monday AND tuesday. Mas is mas!!Just like a Frontline H.O "GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!" lololol So no holding back :-D
:D Do them on BOTH days!!!! I would do just that if I didn't know how to do makeup myself. I will be doing my own makeup on both days as I feel confident enough to give myself a fierce look!!!! I already have ideas in mind (Int'l Makeup Artist website and NYFW to thank for that!!!).
I will be going ALL out of both days.....so lets know how that goes :)))
Saucy...you KNOW within your heart you should go pro BOTH days. I do pro make-up for women who are just going to fetes so no doubt Monday has to be pro too. Don't let anybody tell you different. The ppl who pay attention to Monday are the ones that stand out...not the millas de la vanillas.
I think I know enough tricks so that my makeup looks professional both days and being as anal as i am I like doing it myself that way i dont have to bitch to anyone else if its not exactly the way i want it. I do have a very conveniently located professional make up artist at my disposal but I like to put on make up when I am at a certain stage of dress and that may not coincide with an appointment. Anywho I am always behind schedule, hate getting up extra early just for that.
I'm a low-maintenance chica but i DO love makeup design and application, I'm pretty skilled with an eyelash curler and liquid liner - so far i have the makeup concept from my Monday mas "gladiator training at the ludus"; i have some ideas for Tuesday's pretty mas "We who are about to do salute you"...I should finish the design soon...that way I get to use my talent AND save money
I would love to have my makeup done on Monday but it doesn't really fit into my schedule...can't come in from jouvert at 9 and think there is any possibility of going to a makeup appt, bathing, dressing and meeting the band at any reasonable hour. As it is, I didn't' catch up w/ Tribe until they stopped for lunch this year so imagine if I tried a makeup appt 1st.
Hahaha Oracle I feel you and hear you. I completely admire and love to see the well done look both on Monday and Tuesday however due to laziness and love of sleep I do professional neither days but would probably only do it on Tuesday if I was able to drag myself out of bed to make the appointment. For Monday that is just plain impossible for me to think of after jouvert. However being the glamour puss that you are Sauce I feel you should do it both days as that is your style and it works well for you so why even question it?
Thanks for the comments, I really wanted to get an idea of how popular Monday Makeup was. Like someone said professional makeup IS very expensive so once I have a costume for Monday yeah, I think I will do it!
