Palance Is That You?

I hope JW and Blaze are getting paid for what is clearly "Palance" remixed and  sung in Spanish!

After some digging , I have discovered that the song  "Jingle PH2011" is being touted as having been produced by "Mista Bombo" for Comando Tiburon ( a quartet of Spanish Reggae Panama) .

Interesting indeed, take a listen and tell me what you think:

If this wasn't a clear case of copyright infringement it would have been incredibly funny that these people even had the nerve. Were they thinking that it would sound different in another language, lol. I would imagine that royalties are in order!

This is so wrong. Well I've spent some time, leaving comments on articles which says Mista Bombo produced PALANCE. I used Google Translator, so that hispanic people will understand what I'm saying in their language. I've even gone hunting for Mista Bombo and found his facebook page, I even sent him a message there too: http://es-la.facebook.com/people/Mista-Bombo-Jonathan-Tobar/541260485

What a thief!

Funny how so many people downplay soca out here in the US. Then soooo many people "remake" what originated as soca.

1. Hot Hot Hot
2. Who let the dogs out
Now Palance?!?!

I knew it would be big once Beyonce did her 'remix' on stage and was palancin' in Zen but this, this was not flattery but just a plain ole rip off!

LMAO @ the latino Cookie Monster comment.
These guys didn't even bother to sample the tune and make a new tune-- just outright translate "Palance" into Spanish. WDA!!

DC CarnivalBaby - I'm pretty sure Anselm Douglas was paid for Who let the Dogs Out - correct me if I'm wrong, I vaguely remember him being ok with it, there surely wasn't this uproar like with Palance now. I'm sure Arrow was also paid for the covers of his song.

I also dont think Beyonce is the reason they did it - Panamanians listen to soca. Many of them are descendants of people from the West Indies, mostly Trini and Barbados, so they listen to a lot of soca, unlike other Latin countries. So that would explain, how they know the song. They prob thought they could get away with it, because they doubt that we would hear it. Thing is, with Copa flying direct to Panama from Trini, and in the age of youtube etc, they cant get away with it much longer.

Another thing - JW and Blaze ever get permission to put Cookie Monster in the video? If the video was from a big int'l artist, they would need permission to use the characters - just asking, because this whole issue is shedding light on copyright issues, and while I think Kernel,JW and Blaze should gets what's owed, we should be ready to have our cocoa in the sun when it comes to our soca's own infringements.

DC Chica I was wondering along the same lines as you.

When we use samples and melodies as we often do in soca ... do we pay our dues? I genuinely do not know?!

And the list of 'remakes' gets longer. Take a listen.

And yes, I know Destra sampled Aha's "Take on Me" in her song. And no, I do not know if she paid the necessary royalties.

The Remakes have been done alot by this band Comando Tubron; Blazer Dan's stage, Destra's Bonnie Even Superblue's LARA has been copied for a bollywood perfomance .... I guess we cannot be too upset because we do arrange other songs to sing as soca. DO so never likes so. But then takin a 'bite' and singing in a different language are 2 different things.
