Instant Makeup

For the makeup challenged among you all, here is a product that should peak your interest, especially for those in Island People's Animal Instincts....... INSTANT MAKEUP!!!!

The product is called ColorOn Professional and this Animal Instincts variety pack includes the two pictured above as well as a camouflage pattern at a cost of $18.00. It certainly looks intriguing since the makeup comes as is on a pad that you apply to your eyelid. The product also come in different colour combinations and you can see how it works on this video.

If anyone decides to try this for Carnival, let me know how it works out! For product reviews do a google search, surprisingly the reviews of the actual finished application is mostly positive!

Two Blogs You Need to Check Now

Now I have been talking a lot of talk of wearing boots for Carnival and how awesome it looks blah blah, so much so I think many, many ladies will be sporting boots on the road for 2008! Anyway for my sisters in sneakers do not feel left out, Afro Chic has done two samples of customised sneakers on her blog that are absolutely beautiful!! Now, she did these as samples but if you want your sneakers decorated she can do the job (providing she is not booked solid) so you can visit her blog, FAB! Carnival Boots and view the sneakers she has decorated for TRIBE's Butterfly Bliss and Island People's Dragon Lizard. Remember she can work her magic for your sneakers and boots but you need to contact her fast! The orders are coming in at the last minute as people realise the job is not as easy as it looks, she will be decorating my Tuesday boots for me as I am stumped for a design (I have two pairs of boots, one for both days two boots H.O.!!!)

Dragon Lizard- sneakers by Afro Chic

Butterfly Bliss - sneakers by Afro Chic

The other blog you TRIBERs need to check out is Carnival Jumbie, who updated and a long hiatus, and has given us a hint of what the section line up might be!! If you are in Silver Mist, Black Magic or Lady of the Lake or just curious check out her blog now. I also got a little clue of where my section is and this year I am content that I am not in the back!!!! Now if only TRIBE will send the distribution email all will be well my little Carnival world!!!

Loving the skin you're in

A friend of mine who has been religiously going to the gym every week since last year (and managed to gain weight not loose) has now decided to REALLY up her workout programme instead just of posing at the gym, do you hear me laughing? Her goal is to loose the belly she gained from drinking way too much beers and the pounds she has packed on from eating whatever she wanted, thinking going to the gym and doing cardio for 10 minutes was sufficient exercise.

Anyway, I wish my friend luck as I am really in no position to laugh at her too hard and too long. Being on a vacation last year put me into a serious lazy mode, and the cruise plus the sojourn on SOBE did not help either! While I enjoyed the constant availability of food on the cruise and sampling all the late night restaurants and clubs in SOBE I paid for it by gaining extra pounds as well.

Christmas I tried to be as good as ever and not indulge, which was hard but I stuck to the no carb rule, the vodka though did me in! So come January and 4 weeks to Carnival the impossible goal was set to loose X amount of pounds before February 4th ( I am fooling myself to think I am dieting until Carnival Monday). The weight loss plan has been going pretty ok I must say, I drastically cut my calories, eat very little carbohydrates and I have even done a detox! The caveat of cutting out as much carbs as I can is that the energy is simply not there to exercise and I am NOT going to the gym to fight up with the other people also thinking they can miraculously loose X amount of weight before Carnival.

So I am now working out at home, thank God for the treadmill, and my other exercise equipment albeit the biggest hurdle to overcome is to actually use the tools that I have. In that respect I have good days and bad days. Some days I feel like running on that treadmill forever other days I am tired after one minute. The moral of this whole ramble is that I think I have reached the stage where I look in the mirror and I love the body looking back at me. Sure, it may not be perfect but you know what it ain’t all that bad! The diet and exercise routine will continue until Carnival, of course, and the resultant weight loss will be appreciated if it happens but according to my friend who has cursed dieting, the face and boots will be looking so FABULOUS anyway who has time to check out the jiggle?

All of you ladies trying to reach that goal in two weeks keep trying!!! If anything you will have gained lots of stamina for the road and it is possible to shed pounds between now and Carnival (though it might only be water loss). To those who have reached the “f*it” stage and feel like giving up, remember not to throw in the towel too far and still watch what you eat, it is only a two week sacrifice, though you may not loose anymore weight, you do not want to gain either. The best mentality we can all have at this time, those of us who do not look like the costume models on the website that is, is that no one is perfect. We really have to stop stressing over perceived imperfections and learn to work with what we have!! Illusion is the name of the game!! Every woman should know exactly how to conceal cellulite, stretch marks and even a tubby tummy. Anyway, I leave you with a photo of a Jcrew model that one of the bloggers sent me, she said if this chick/model could be showing her stretch marks big and brave she will be jamming down the road, sans stockings, with HER stretch marks showing as well!!

p.s. I am going to hit the treadmill there!! Hey, I never said to throw in the towel eh, fight that battle down the last!! lol.

Blogger Bands

Last year it was all about the green string, used as a symbol of solidarity and identification for those who read this blog. This year the concept has been revamped thanks to one blogger who made all the arrangements to have these blogger bands designed:

Unfortunately the bands have already been assigned and allocated and no new orders can be taken, but do look out for it on the road. If you recognize someone with an orange wrist band, don’t be afraid to ask if they read “Saucy’s” blog! Chances are you might even see me sporting my blogger band in the secret section!!

Indians Fuh Sure

Friends of the QPCC J'ouvert Band "Die Hards" are having a small Carnival Band for the second time this year. The theme is Indians Fuh Sure and the concept is quite interesting! The cost of $1200.00 gets you DJ, food, drinks and security on both Monday and Tuesday, however,t the costume is optional, do it yourself or must be an Indian theme. According to the flyer they are even providing a tailor for those in need of such services.

In a time when the complaint is that mas is too expensive for the "ordinary" man bands like this one offers every and anyone the chance to not only partake in Carnival but also enjoy the all-inclusive element and express one's creativity. Though this type of mas is not for me, I am liking the whole ideology behind it!

If anyone is interested in more information on this band, the contact numbers and email is on the flyer; click on it for a large view.

Carnival Supplies

Since many of you are set to land in the coming weeks, if you have not yet gotten all your Carnival supplies have no fear the stores in Trinidad are pretty well stocked.

Westport has sequin hats and tops; the tops are very similar to the ones I posted from Wetseal and come in purple, black, brown/bronze and navy blue at a price of $90.00. The hats are $27.50 as they have a sale on at the moment:

Westport also has cheap shorts and accessories.

Eye Candy also has their Carnival stock on display; tights at $35.00, body jewels, silver and gold shorts, glitter, makeup .. you get the picture! They have some reasonably priced body jewelry in nice styles as well as boots in gold and silver.

I was not impressed by Wonderful World's stock, it might be that their Carnival supplies are yet to be displayed. The body jewelry was more expensive than at Eye Candy and the designs not as elaborate. What they did have were tiny purses that can attach to your belt in sequins, gold and silver. Not big enough to hold much, but they can easily hold a small cellphone, some money and chap stick.

Micles has tank tops and camis galore as well as boy shorts in lots of bright colours! Tops range from $45.00 to $65.00, ideal for Monday wear. I got my tights today at Micles for $30.00 which is cheaper than last year and the same price as the silky brand tights at Samaroos.

TRIBE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard that TRIBERS might be getting an email this week with distribution dates, dunno how true this is BUT check out this article in today's Trinidad Guardian for the full story!! I am estatic to see the photo of Douglas John working on the frontline costumes cause that means mine is ready!! TRIBE is SO getting ready for mas!!! 3 more weeks, 3 more weeks!!!!

Juliette Chung, Stefan Williams and Sameel Lucas work the production line. Packaging costumes accurately and neatly is a key part of the Tribe plan for their masqueraders. At far right, just out of camera range another group checks each box before it is packed.

Story and photos by Mark Lyndersay

Tribe’s mas camp is more of a corporate headquarters, with a meeting room overflowing with supplies, offices and a large warehouse space where costumes are packaged for distribution.

But nothing is made here. The Tribe system is an elaborate network of 18 local producers who create the band in a system that costume production manager Michael Nobrega describes as “the spider’s web.”

Just one costume in all of Tribe’s 2008 presentation, Myths and Magic, has been built abroad, an ornately stitched section called Black Magic, but the headpieces and back packs for the costume have been built locally...........

This elaborately synchronised ballet of raw material and widely distributed assembly centres is linked by big plastic buckets that eventually bring the finished costumes together for assembly, audit and packaging in at Tribe central, in Woodbrook.

Here, the final spit and polish are applied, the costumes packed in handsome brown boxes topped with a silvered Tribe logo on the lid, stacked on neat shelving to await distribution day.
Douglas John prepares head pieces in the family kitchen while his mother, Tessa, prepares lunch at right.

Makeup Looks and Tips for a Waterproof Face

Airbrush make up is not the only way to have a "sweat free" face come Carnival. I have been doing some research on products recommended by makeup artists to help your makeup stay on your face during the heat of the day and combined with sweat and misting zones:

All the looks are from Sephora and though the products are not always cheap, think of it as investment in long term beauty as you have the makeup for future use. Click on the highlighted links to take you to the Sephora page with instructions as well as information on all products used.

Look #1 - Waterproof Makeup

My product picks for this look are the eye seal which transforms regular eye makeup into waterproof makeup, waterproof eyeliner and mascara to avoid "raccoon eyes" and the waterproof lipgloss for a long lasting all day shine.

Makeup Look #2 - Smoky Eye

Makeup Look #3 - Shimmery Fairy

I am loving the Frederic Fekkai sparkling shimmer spray for the hair, so perfect for Carnival!

Some more great looks can be found at Sephora, click this link.

Waterproof products recommended by the pros:

Face:
Clinique Almost Makeup
Clinique Superfit Makeup
Clinique Non Streak Bronzer (for very light coverage)
Almay Moisture Tint
Era Face Spray on Foundation
Model in a Bottle

Eyes &Brows
Lancome Aquatique - base for eyeshadow
Lancome Le Stylo Eyeliner
Makeup Forever Eyeliner
Clinique Touch of Tint
Clarins Fix Mascara
Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara
Clinique Brow Keeper
Trish Mcevoy Finish Line Shadow Transformer

Lips
Max Factor Lipfinity

Stress !
Thanks to you all for giving me the opportunity to grow and for being part of this continous journey. It was great seeing all the faces at the unveiling and nerve racking at the same time.So much going on and so much to do in a time that is flying like a blink of the eye, but until we all evolve beyond the limitation placed on us by us we will just have to make it work .

Check it out!

Flip Flops Ash Wednesday All Inclusive

Ash Wednesday, the day of rest after the Carnival melee. Some of you may be going to Tobago judging from the fact that plane tickets were sold out for that day since last year, others are planning on heading up to Maracas and the saintly among us will be getting their foreheads smeared with ashes.

For those looking to an alternative to fighting the masses on the ferry over to Tobago or from the crowds on the beach, Par*D is having their second Flip Flops All-Inclusive, Ash Wednesday edition.

For a review of the inaugural Flip Flops fete check Carnival Jumbie's blog as she is one of the Flip Flops promoters.

Something happening in the Savannah......

So, on my way home this afternoon I decided to explore the works taking place at the Savannah, remember the drama when the structures were taken down and moved? Well here are some photos of what is being built:

Stands opposite Memorial Park

Stage... supposedly for pre-Carnival events

Stands in the Savannah

Other Side of the Stands

Booths in the Savannah

I will explore this area some more when I attend Panorama Prelims in the Savannah next week, by then the construction of the orange stands and that whole area should be ready for the lime!

Where will Machel be performing this season?

Before you buy your fete ticket here is a line up of where Mr Machel Montano will be for the carnival 2008 season:
