About those fabulous Island People Boots!!

I found out where you can get them! The person who makes and decorates the boots is a lady called Natalie and she can be found at Vamp Boutique on Mucurapo Road in St. James. I went in to see her at lunchtime and she was very nice, explaing that she has to measure your foot in person (calf measurements etc.) for the perfect fit so I don't know how that will work for person not residing in Trinidad. In addition she has to get orders early, that is long before Carnival so the boots can be completed in time.

I was informed that Natalie did the boots for all Diane Hunts sections: Sacred Sand, Raiders of the Desert and Jewels of the Nile and she has the boots at the store so you can look at them. The only thing is Natalie indicated that she would be taking the boots to Island People's mas camp to be displayed so I guess in future you will be able to get her information there as well.

I asked the most important question, which was were they comfortable and she said yes since she has worn them for mas and she also did boots for Diane Hunt for this year's Carnival, hence the request to do boots for the launch. She did say that she wore the boots with her sneaker insoles and socks because I asked about using insoles for added comfort, for that fact the boots are made to accomodate the insoles. I tried a pair and they were comfortable, I could move my toes and the material was flexible and not stiff. The only word of caution that she gave was that in direct, hot sun your feet will feel hot (if you feet are shaded not a problem).

These are the ones I tried:

Prices are dependent on how you want your boots made, either plain or with lots of decoration or what materials you want used. I asked about doing short boots for my Fireman costume and she said that it could be done (I am so excited now because I also want mine decorated!).

Great info! Keep it coming. They look great but my feet are kind of on the flat side so I will suffer in those after a while. I need a one inch heel for a little elevation and arch support.

Shandy send her an email and ask about a higer heel and see what she says. I asked about a wedge and she said those are uncomfortable since your toes keep sliding forward.Alo if you have flat feet you need to get an insole with support, but send her an email anyways if you like.

Saucy I need your help. You have such great knowledge and info in regards to carnival. I want to play mas with Tribe but my husband and brother who want to play with me, don't want to pay that amount of money for a costume, they don't even want a costume, they just want the band and of course I want them near to me for safety. Is there anything that can accomadate that? Let me know if it's better to email you instead. Also if not with Tribe do you know with anyone else?

I weally weally hope those boots are comfortable for all your sakes. They look just like the ones I wore in 2004 and sure they start off comfy but that is before you start chipping and jumping and walking for MILES in 'em. But I guess everyone's feet are different and some need more support than others, but I definitely can't wear something that flat.

Can you get some information about who or where do body painting and face decorations with rhinestones?

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

kwesi
Most make up artists can do the face decorations with the rhinestone, I know a few local make up artists so email me for their contact #s.

As for the bodypainting you need to contact TRIBE, they were offering that option this year for masqueraders and will be able to put you on to the person who did the job.

the boots are ok but I hate the look & feel of flat boots. They need a heel!!!

I like the look of the boots.. unsure about the comfort. In that sun hot I can't manage much. Saucy.. whats the most comfortable thing for the feet?? I've worn those cute puma sneakers they are not so comfortable after 6 hours.. I find my cross trainers from the gym are really the most comfortable but they jus don't match. I tried spray painting .. my trainers fell apart by midday..

ps. Hottie Hottie .. I have to visit your blog .. you are hilarious!! Welcome back .. did they finally fix the internet in good ole UK??

Hottie Hottie said...

Yes girl. They finally fixed it. I wouldn't tell you THAT story now. I might post on it later when I collect myself. The most comfortable thing I have EVER worn on my foot for Carnival is the Nike Presto sneakers. It's not flat like Pumas, it's not hard like trainers and comes in a variety of colours. One thing you have to remember though - when you're in the middle of the crowd Carnival Monday and Tuesday and yuh breasts and bamcee outside, nobody studying yuh foot yuh know!

hottie...u real crazy girl...so yu rocking dey Presto den eh? U spraying it gold then..dont 4get we in the same section...DRAGON!!! woo hoo. I'm gonna grit my teeth and play in boots
