Applying False Eyelashes

Now, I believe in individual false eyelashes, to me they look more natural and last longer than the strip of lashes. But, for those who might just want to glam it up for Carnival Tuesday only, the strip will work as you can remove them at the end of the day. Makeup artist Crysande Hachst of the Trinidad Express WOMAN magazine has a how to guide on applying lashes in today's issue:

Your favourite stars like Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez have a secret to their red-carpet glamour-false eyelashes. These are great for bringing out your eyes, making you look more feminine and alluring. They also make you look fabulous in photos.

So for that special Christmas event, you may want to try false eyelashes to put that extra oomph into your look. It is easier than you might think to apply and no one has to know your secret but you! Everyone will be commenting that you look different, they just won't know why.

Afraid you will end up looking like a drag queen?

Falsies come in all colours, lengths and styles, so to achieve a natural eyelash enhancement, select a lash style and colour which would blend in most easily with your own lashes. Of course for Carnival you can go wild with different colours and extravagant lengths for the season.

How-to guide on applying strip false eyelashes

Step 1: Making your new lashes pliable

Take your eyelash strips from the case and bend each one gently back and forth to make them more pliable and easy to handle. Steps 2 & 3: Measure and clip

Place the strip of eyelashes against your eye to check the length against the length of your eye. If the strip is too long, then cut off a few lashes, using a pair of cuticle scissors so that it is the exact length of your eye. I have seen some ladies with false eyelashes extending far beyond the length of their eye. This, of course, would not contribute towards achieving a natural look. So remember to measure and then trim if necessary!

Step 4: Applying the glue

Many people ask me if the false eyelashes will fall off and embarrass them in public. My answer to that is to use a good quality waterproof eyelash glue that can withstand tears and humidity.

Place your glue in a narrow strip on a regular kitchen toothpick. Then, apply this glue to the band of your false lashes. Allow to dry for 60 seconds or until the glue becomes tacky.

What do we mean by tacky? When the glue loses its liquid consistency and becomes sticky.

Step 5: Putting on the falsies

Next, put the false lashes on the base of your natural lashes. Start from the outer corner of the eye and, once the outer corner has adhered, start working your way inward, pressing the false lashes to lash line until the entire band is attached.

Step 6: Finishing touches

Leave the lashes on for a few minutes to ensure the glue is completely dried, then apply a black, dark brown or navy liner, depending on your look, to the band so that it is not visible.

I always wanted to try those false lashes but I wear contacts and I am afraid to have the glue get in my eyes.I would love to get feedback from someone who tried them and also wears contacts.

Xena, I do wear contacts and the glue did not come near or irritate my eyes at all. Because the false lashes go above your own lash line, I guess your eyelashes "block" the glue from getting in your eyes. My trouble is getting them on :)

I wear contacts as well and had no problem with the individual lashes, like the others have said it goes above your lash line.

for those of u that wear contacts I have a stupid question - do u have your contacts in while u are applying the false lashes or do u apply the lashes 1st & then put on your contacts????

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

amprincess good question. The contacts are in since I get them done professionally.

Saucy yuh get the jump on me with this one. I was goinga nd post this same article. Any way .....A little secret from the professionals you can also use weave glue to stick the lashes. No matter what getting it right takes practice. Aslo you can get the lashes in the kit that come with double sided glue strips. Its no mess and much easier than trying to apply liquid glue.

Weave glue? That safe? I really prefer the individual lashes and I don't think that is easy to master! One of these days I will give the strip a try again.

Its been a while posting, I was trying to keep up after my vacation and now manage to be up to date on ALL my blogs. Newho, I try lashes every year and every year fail...kinda. My problem is my eyelashes are not the longest AND they are really curly. So it takes me a really long time to get them on and I always see a space between the fake lash and my real lash then it comes down to me channeling my inner artist with me and the liquid eyeliner trying to fill in this space. Any suggestions?

Oh and I use nail glue to stick on the little gem things on my face, DAT doh sweat off for nothing. But I wouldn't use it on my eye, I wouldn't want to end up in the hospital.

Sauce, nice meeting you yesterday. You seemed so surprised that somebody recognised you, you're not incognito anymore girlie...lol

jamette you are the second blogger that I have met so far! And I have shorter hair than at the TW launch so you REAL good to make me out. I think I was more surprised you caught me going to have a Rituals Chiller (cheating on the diet LOL).

And I don't like the strip lashes for the same reason, I can never get it as close to the lash line so it will blend. That's why I do the individual lashes, much easier especially when someone else is doing it for you.

Well I mean...is glue still. I sure no matter what glue you use you aren't allowed to put it in your eye!! lolol And it is the same hairs you attaching to. The weave glue is actually more resilient than the 'eye lash glue'. It can get a bit messy since its not clear but black but that also helps blend the line. Road tested...very unlikely to fall off no matter how much man you bat you eyelids at. How often do you see a weave fall off a head jus so?
As i said i learnt that trick from modelling but I actually bought the real eyelash glue thinking they were just trying to be economical. I quickly relised i wasted my $30 and went back to using the weave glue which is $10 for a big bottle. You have to take your time removing it otherwise you will pull out your real lashes if you used too much glue. But i guess that could happen with any glue.
Other tip, use a pin/needle to seperate the lashes if you used too much glue. This also helps to merge them with your own. And lashes can be reused once you use this same pin method to clean the glue off a bit. I always have a back up pair though

I eh know about allyuh but I not brave enough to try this on my own. Sauce who youz get yours done by? The only way I would consider this is if someone else doing it for me! Plus I find I'm a lil broke-o when it comes to stuff like this- even liquid eyeliner is too much for me! Lol. I real hopeless allyuh..

I saw the article in Woman and was like nah, not me. I think I was blessed with some decent eyelashes but in case I feeling cosquelle a day.. I might think about it. Hehe.

Nah I am good with faces, I don't forget a face, no matter how far or how small the picture is when i see the face! I wasn't even studying your diet i was more shame to walk up and be like 'hi, are you sauce?' If you had said no i woulda just dig a hole right there, because who walks up to a stranger and asks them if their name is sauce? Is doubles or what?

The weave glue actually sounds like a good idea because of the color actually. I'll try it one day.

I have decent lashes and usually get a away with a couple of extra coats of mascara but for those extra-drama days I like to dabble in false eyelashes. but I don't like them too long, it'll get into drag queen category.

Cool beans on the lashes 101 diva. But my eyes are so sensitive I wonder if I won't be tearing whole day. That's so not sexy. lol

yeah, I've tried a couple diff pairs, no luck on the 1st set that was sticky & was supposed to work w/o glue, hah, nope... so next I bought glue & a diff pair, I eventually got them on, but had to take them off after @2 hrs., too itchy, plus I wear contacts, & I blink a lot, so it was just not comfortable. :(

LOL doh worry I saving them posts for closer to Carnival! I did not want to post the routine now and they get lost in the archives.

Oh i forget..You can try ZOOM Lash Mascara by M.A.C. which give you the added lash look with just mascara.

Shandy trick is, don't try to put the lashes so close to your eyes that it is below your lash line. With the weave glue you get a little more leeway as its black so it kinda fills in the space if you a little off the mark.(i say a little eh).

And i don't reccommend the drag queen lashes, normal length looks fine. I overdid it one year and put on drag queen lashes and they literally were so long when i blinked i touched my forehead. I could not blink when I put on my shades!!!

I like the idea of someone putting them on me, the only time liquid eyeliner looked right was when someone put it on, certainly not me! LOL!

Allyuh, de Maybelline lash stylish mascara is a BEST mascara for dramatic eyelashes that don't look drag queenish or false. I is a woman does be real sceptical when people make they claims about they products but I have to say that in this case is true.
