At West Mall, which has been finally completed, the hubby says he is feeling for a burger so after browsing some shops we made our way to the food court. Now, the smart choice would have been for me to have a salad at Blimpie or even broccoli and Chicken from Lychee Garden, but I had an instant craving for Burger King! I don’t know where my willpower went but I succumbed to that desire of sinking my teeth in a nice, big, fat juicy burger!
The diet went out the window, I have to confess I had a Whopper at Burger King on Friday afternoon, and to add insult to injury I topped it off with a Sprite AND Hershey’s Sundae Pie!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, it tasted SO good though! I was eating that burger and making noises aloud. The hubby had to keep asking “Is it good?” because all I was saying was “uhmmm” and “ooooooo”. Let me tell you, it was beyond good, it was fantastic!!
So, after enjoying the burger, some of the fries (shared them with the huby) and the Hershey’s pie when I got home, I felt guilty. I know that cheating on my diet will not make me instantly put back on the few pounds that I have lost to date, but the fact that I gave in so easily to temptation made me mad at myself. It was with some comfort I read the following article in the Trinidad Guardian yesterday; I think what happened is that I was being very strict with what I was eating, not allowing myself to indulge my little cravings until it just overtook me and I went crazy on Friday.
I know I am not the only one who has cheated on their diet so far, and for all those who have take heart in knowing you have company. With Christmas (and office parties) right around the corner I am now dreading surving Christmas and not ruining my diet! After Christmas it's only one month and some weeks before Carnival, not enough time to undo any damage I might possibly do to my "work in progess" Carnival body. It is going to take some strong willpower this Christmas, I think I need to stick a huge photo of my costume on my refrigerator door so I will be reminded of my goal.
Enjoy these following tips on healthy eating through the Christmas season from the Womanwise Magazine:
THE BIG FAT TRUTH
Ingrid Seegobin – Certified Nutritional Practitioner
Yes, Christmas is not too far away. We will all spend too much money, sleep too little, drink too much and definitely eat too much.
All this great-tasting food signifies that one of the most festive seasons is here again.
As the old nursery rhyme goes “Christmas is coming, and the goose is getting fat…” The problem of course, is not the goose — he will be eaten and enjoyed. The problem, rather, is the question of who gains who gains the weight over the holidays. We do!
We must make wise choices when faced with the smorgasbord of delightful dishes that surface especially at Christmas time. You must be thinking that this is easier said than done. Perhaps, but once you understand a little about the body, you might find it easy.
There is a distinct difference between being overweight and being obese. Obesity is an excessive amount of body fat. Being overweight is an excess of body weight relative to height.
Obesity is divided into several categories based on the size and number of fat cells as well as on how the fat is distributed in the body (in the abdomen versus the hips).
Types of obesity
Hyperplastic obesity is when there is an increased number of fat cells throughout the body (hyper means increased; plastic refers to cells). The number of fat cells a person has, depends mainly on the diet of the mother while the infant is still in the womb, as well as on early infant nutrition. An excess of calories during these early stages of development can lead to the formation of an increased number of fat cells for the rest of the person’s life.
Hyperplastic obesity usually begins in childhood because it is harder to develop new fat cells in adulthood. Hyperplastic obesity tends to be associated with fewer serious health effects compared to other types of obesity.
Hypertrophic obesity is determined by an increase in the size of each individual fat cell and linked to diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other serious disturbances of metabolism. In hypertrophic obesity, there is both an increase in the number and size of fat cells.
In hypertrophic obesity, the fat distribution is usually around the waist. This distribution is referred to as male-patterned or android, since it is typically seen in obese males. If the waist is bigger than the hips (apple-shaped), a person is said to have android obesity. If the hips are larger (pear-shaped), then a person has female-patterned or gynecoid obesity.
Weight loss myths
* You lose fat cells when you diet. False. Fat cells only shrink when dieting. If they are full of toxins, they can’t shrink.
* To lose weight, you only need to eat less. False. Your body will crave food when it needs nutrition. If you eat healthier, more nutritious foods, you can eat less.
* Exercise is not necessary for weight loss. False. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn at any exercise level. One pound of muscle burns 35 calories per day.
* I don’t have to count calories if I am on a high-protein diet. False. Calories always count!
* To lose weight quickly, I should drastically reduce or restrict my foods. False. Your body will go into famine mode. Your metabolism will drop and you will plateau or even gain weight because your body will horde its calories.
* Chewing gum will ease my hunger. False. Chewing gum activates the flow of gastric juices and stimulates appetite.
* Artificial sweeteners will help me to eat fewer calories. False. These chemicals can actually increase your appetite and result in weight gain.
* It is better to restrict the variety of food I ingest each day. False. You may lose weight quickly, but it will not be a permanent loss because your body will recognise that it lacks nutrition. This will activate cravings to make you seek out foods that your body needs.
* It is better to concentrate on low-calorie foods when dieting. False. Low-calorie foods such as salad dressings contain vinegar and sugar, and neither of these has any nutritional value. It is actually better to use a higher caloric dressing made with an oil that your body can digest and use. In fact, checking the nutritional value chart will help you to recognise that some “low-calorie” foods actually have a higher fat content than regular foods.

Kevian even on my treat day I doh wolf down so much trans fat and calories!! But it turned into a whole cheating weekend cause ysterday I had a Bud or two LOL.
Kevian I only buying fruits and veggies for Christmas and I eh going by nobody house!!
anon, like so many people, contacted me via email for some help and after that we kept in touch.
We recently traded vacation pics; I wanted to see her Germany pics (she went for football) and she wanted to see pics from my cruise.)It so happened that I saw pics of her as well so that's how I made her out :D
he on a diet too :D
Nah I will buy stuff like that in moderation; yuh know I saw Orchard sorrel in the grocery yesterday and was tempted to buy it eh, but I resisted.I must have the sorrel and pastelle for christmas other than that I think I can survive without all the other stuff.
Morning!!
Saucy, I'm a cheater too :(
I don't eat beef so a burger is out of the question, but I can put a hurting on a BK Chicken Sandwich, LARGE fries and a Hershey's Sundae Pie. BK isn't BK without it. But I have not had BK in a while, I've been craving KFC (I know right....yuck!) so I've had it 1 time per week in the last 2 weeks.
Saucy, don't beat yourself up about it, get right back on track. Personally I don't see the major harm in cheating every once in a while, it just shouldn't be a habit.
You'll be fine. But yeah, go ahead stick a picture of your costume on your fridge if it'll help :) Mine is permanently etched in my brain.
I have a question though cause I want to know if it's just me. But now that you guys are working out and dieting, do you find yourselves looking in the mirror more? Cause everytime I walk by mine I have to stop and investigate.
Warrior I think I obsess more :S
I look in the mirror and I am not seeing results as fast as I want. But I know with contiuned workout and diet by Feburary the hard work will pay off.
Girl,
I really don't know what I epxecting, I walk by, investigate, go do something, walk by, investigate again, like something would have changed in 2 minutes :S
And I not seeing results either. Sometimes I think I see something, then it changes right back to where it was. My mind playing tricks on me!!!
But as you said....by February we should be in order. We better be!!!
Well I say that because it has happened to me before; working out and walking up Chancellor and I vex I not seeing results fast enough. Lo and behold when Carnival weeek roll around and I collect my costume the belt was WAY too big, and not only that when I put on my all white outfit for Glo and I look in the mirror THEN I saw the results.Same thing happened last year, when I get dressed for Jamboree and saw how flat my stomach was looking in my super low levis I was shocked ...and then I get a pic on Triniscene and I was pleased as punch,so I know that with the constant effort it will pay off eh. But that still doh stop me from obsessing :D
Morning Sauce, morning all:
I think you're fine Saucy as long as you get back on track with your workout during the week. Here's what I do. I try to stay on course during the week and on weekends I indulge. I don't go overboard but I indulge a little. Like this weekend was my nephew's birthday so I had some vegetable lo mein, scoops of vanilla yogurt dunked into some egg nog and a tiny slice of cake (I was proud of myself as far as that cake was concerned because that's a weakness). During the past week, I believe it was Tuesday I did cheat and I had some cheese and about 4 chicken wings. Now Monday is here, and is back to workout and an extra push.
I think it's expected that you will cheat, but as long as you get back on track and do an extra workout for the cheating, you should be+ on point. I don't even want to think about the holidays. I'm hosting my in-laws and friends for Thanksgiving so yuh know that will really be my test of will power. I L-O-V-E to cook and I L-O-V-E my cooking. Keep pictures of your costume posted everywhere. That's what I've been doing.
Warrior: "I really don't know what I epxecting, I walk by, investigate, go do something, walk by, investigate again, like something would have changed in 2 minutes" LOL I know exactly what you mean!
Boy the good eating went out the window when i went on vacation. I went a whole 2 months without eating fries and i eat it everyday this week. Its a good thing I was not trying to lose no set of weight to begin with I would be in serious trouble. Yeah and the doubles eh help either :-)
Ms. Diva you never told me where you stayed in Ja!!!
I agree with law, once you don't beat yourself up about it. One day at a time. But remember if you don't allow yourself to have some 'treat's then eventually you'll cave anyway and it'd be worse.
Remember life goes on while you there trying to loose weight. You can't not go out, not go to xmas do's, not celebrate bdys & xmas. You'll always have to make allowances once you do it in moderation and not all the time you'll be fine. Get back on track the next day. Suck it up. :-)-
ay ay the hubby on a diet haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. oh gawd, ah miss West Mall. hottie real quiet today :P
Yes law - I saw you tiptoeing around the cafeteria with that plate of cheese and wings last week. But I know you hardly ate that day and you were driven to desperation, lol.
I can't even get started on my excercise plan as yet. I keep thinking about how very difficult it was for me last year. I dieted and worked out like a beast and saw NO visible results whatsoever (although my stamina improved significantly). And it only gets harder as you get older, so I almost feel like I am doomed before I start. And all these ailments that have descended on me the past few months are not helping at all.
But in general, I do try to eat healthfully, and I'm working on getting my health back on track so I can tackle that treadmill again.
hotboy, look meh here. But why de jail yuh doh check out meh blog if yuh looking fuh meh?! And yuh didn't answer meh thong question.
What's a Hershey’s Sundae Pie?? Sounds so sensationally sinful...
karabana that's a desert that Burger King serves; it is made from chocolate and whipped cream and all sorts of other fattening chocolate ingredients :D Check you local Burger King and see if they have it.
no, they don't, I'd know. ;-)
Karabana, just take a look at what you're missing...
http://www.bennettmanagement.com/treats3.html
BTW, you sure they not offered by you? I see them in BK all the time.
cb why yuh put that link dey!! Oh gosh ah feeling for one now :S
Karabana I surprised they don't offer it by you, I was good eating Hershey Pie in BK in the US and even Puerto Rico!
When my hubby and I diet we work ina "cheat day" into the diet just to avoid binge eating when the cravings get too strong. And it works, sometimes the body needs an infusion of calories to keep going.
The key is not to fall off the wagon completely. Lots of luck.
Whoops, SORRY!
natasha I have a cheat day but I don't really have anything like a burger, just something small like a time out.I am back on track today, though, had my broccoli and chicken with wild rice for lunch ,a banana for breakfast and a yougurt as a snack. oh, and I bought some snickers minis so I can staisfy the small cravings before they get bigger LOL.
Allyuh doh talk about cheat nuh! Thanksgiving is next week and that's not just cheating...it's potential diet SABOTAGE! YIKES! LOL I'll have to eat celery sticks in between Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's LOL
Anyway, I want to take time out to thank allyuh for keeping the carnival hype alive. Between school, work and other stresses I wasn't sure if I was going to carnival again, but reading this blog and talking to my coworker has rekindled my carnival fire! :-) THANKS!
Yeah man Karabana, it must have Hershey's Sundae Pie, that's a BK staple. No BK visit is complete without it, and I got on them in the US. Then again.....is Canada you livin.....kidding :) (I jokin eh!!)
Saucy good idea with the snickers minis. But knowing me, I'd have to hide the bag cause I could down about 10 in a go if given the chance :S So let me stay away altogether.
My bad saucy, I stayed at a friends house .Thats how i end up with the full island tour. But there are a couple all inclusive syou can stay at like sandals or beaches . They have several locations in Jamaica. There was one that was nice but a little cheaper in Montego Bay but I have to get back to you on that one , can't remember the name
i confess also Saucy,
on Saturday we were in Jersey Gardens Mall. The lines were ridiculous my daughter was cranky and she wanted HamBurger King (Burger King)
I suckered out also and got a chicken sandwich....oh my god it was sooooooooo good. and I ate all of my hot tasty fries.
I felt sooooooo guilty after, I almost threw up!
It is going to be very very hard these upcomming months, i think i need to walk around with my Tribe Booklet in tow, wherever i go.
Rustle up some phoulourie dey. TWO days in a row. All meh EYE greasy!
Montego bay has Sunset and The Royal Decameron (sp) which are the cheaper ones, thanks!
bagogyul that BK burger went down SO good I know how yuh feel :D
Why broccoli and cabbage don't taste so damn good :D
Y'all forgot, I'm Canadian, eh!
That's why I asked what it is, bc I never miss a new treat at BK... :-O
this is the evilness we have up north:
http://www.burgerking.ca/en/1158/index.php?buildid=35

oh! No Hershey Pie! I see u have an ice cream sundae though, but still can't touch the Hershey's pie!
was supposed to come up on the ciniminis... ooohhhhhh, l'il cinnamon buns.....
that pie seems like a mud pie, which meh, I can resist. Not much into pies.
It is going to be very very hard these upcomming months, i think i need to walk around with my Tribe Booklet in tow, wherever i go.
I need to do this. Heck, I need to make color copies of Fireman and paste it all over the place.
Thank God the only time I crave chocolate is when the period coming. Kyah resist a mudslide though... praise Jesus I eh find nowhere up here have dat.
Just a recomendadtion for an almost all Inclusive in Jamaica at a very reasonable price. We stayed at the Starfish Trelawny (operated by beaches resorts) It was really a nice place. Not the most Posh resort we have been to, but by far we had the best time.
thanks trini-in-toronto!
LOL!!!!! Hubby came home tonight & said I want BK! Bc of this post too!!! LOL! So, guess what I just had a bite of??!!!! They got the pies now, for like 2 weeks... LOL! It's yummy, it'd be great on hot days, which are very far off... :(
PS: LOL, Hubby, I didn't mention Starfish *bc* it's not posh.
Karabana you did not even know what was right there under your nose for two whole weeks...HERSHEY PIE!!!!! LOL.
Well apart from Starfish not being "posh" my girlfirend, who is the hotel industry in Ja.,said it attracts alot of kids!
